Did you tell the installer to install it in valve/steam/steamapps/YOUREMAIL/half-life ? It makes the NS folder by itself, just point it to the half life folder.
The full path is as u stated above. Yes i restarted steam. I really hate steam lol <!--emo&:p--><img src='http://www.unknownworlds.com/forums/html/emoticons/tounge.gif' border='0' style='vertical-align:middle' alt='tounge.gif' /><!--endemo-->. Thx for trying to help me though buddy i really appreciate it im as stumped as can be.
I had the same problem about 5 minutes ago. Turns out the fileplanet link from the main page is for the update, not the full. If your tale is the same, could be that, if not, Iunno.
What you need to do is install half-life cache if it isn't done so already, and run the game at least once (once opened start the training room and exit) , it should copy some of the files under your account and half-life folder.
Then exit steam, install the ns install file then enter steam, it should appear under the 3rd party games.
I had NS already installed and had been playing it a couple of times ON STEAM about 2-3 months ago. I have not changed my setup. NS is no longer under "third party games" for some reason.
I downloaded and installed first the ver3_b5 and still no success. Since I am a constellation member from waaaay back I was able to download the b6 version and try my luck at that. STILL no dice.
I have multiple mods running under STEAM, I know how to install them (normally) This is the first time I've run into this problem. I'm hoping someone has the answer cause I'm stupmed as well.
I couldn't find a patch for b4 to b5, so I just used the full installation.. so you might consider using the full installation and not the patch from NSA.
ok now i have the same problem but i installed NS to C:\Program Files\Valve\Steam\SteamApps\myemail@server.com\half-life\ns and i dont know what do do from there. any help would be appreciated.
I repeat - NS was working under STEAM then one day I noticed it wasn't there anymore. tried re-installing it everything is in the right place, just like Hostile Intent and a couple of others.
I suspect this is a STEAM issue, was just wondering if this was a known problem or if I was the only one having it. Obviously I'm not alone and it is a new problem.
I am assuming it is a STEAM issue. I deleted everything in the NS folder and started from scratch for the third time.
As before, I installed to the default directory which for some reason installs it to c:/....../half-life/ns/half-life/ns
As before, I moved everything from the second NS folder into the first (because it's not supposed to be like that)
FINALLY Steam decided to recognize it. Keep in mind I did the same thing three times before Steam would see it. I must have a problem in my Steam setup. However the installation techincally does work, even though it installs into the wrong default directory.
I really appreciate the help i did a format of my computer and now steam has allowed my ns into my games. I suggest some1 pin this up b/c i know several ppl who have had this problem. Once again i REALLY appreciate the help even if i ended up formating at least u guys tried thx alot. I hope this topic helps other ppl as well.

Okay I had this problem last night when Valve issued more "news" popups.
It turns out when Valve rolls out Steam updates or news updates the Steam client will update some menu files stripping out NS and most likely other "Third Party" games..
I resolved this issue by logging out, closing Steam, and restarting it. Alternatively I could have deleted the clientregistry.blob file and log back in again to see NS in the Games menu.
I don't understand I can't even get regular HL to show up in steam. I have the HL CD and key but, still it doesnt show up. Any help would be great. Thanks.

just open up steam and try to play HL, it will ask for a CDkey and will then download it.

You did restart steam right?

Hope this helps
go to where you have your NS folder.
tell us the exact path. (actualy look, don't just say "well it is where you told me")
there we go.
look in NS, make sure that there is not a second NS folder in there.

Did I install a patch instead of a full client? The patch isn't a complete package.. so it would make sense if you couldn't play NS..

Start directory : "C:\Program Files\Steam"
Sorry , I am useing a Chinese Windows , hope my translation could hep you .
P.S. : Just make the taget and directory to the setting of your PC
