so... are you looking for marine or alien specific guides or just a general overview of how ns works or what? you should probably check the kharaa/marine forums for some tips umm
<a href='http://www.unknownworlds.com/forums/index.php?showtopic=70126' target='_blank'>this</a> is a collection of links for marines. as for the aliens there used be be a series of guides for each class but it wasn't sticked i guess so it's buried really deep in the forums. does anyone have the link to them?
-The most important thing to do as a marine is to listen to your commander.
-Stay in groups. 3 noob marines can do a lot more than you'd think if they stick together, and they can certainly do more than if they go ramboing off god knows where.
-Don't hump the armory. Get a couple packs of ammo and leave the base.
-In the beginning of the game, you only need a couple guys in base to defend or build. Go to the nearest RT, hit Z (request orders button) or tell your comm to drop it and build it.
-If someone is yelling at you to phase somewhere, then don't touch the armory unless you literally have 0 ammo. Even if you have 50 ammo in your gun and no extra clips, then just phase immediately.
-The most important thing for aliens is to practice. Individual skill is very important for pubs. A good fade can make or break a game. Play lots and lots of combat.
-Learn to bunnyhop.
-Learn whether you should rush sieging marines or attack their base to force a beacon.
-Learn when you should put down a hive, when you should put down chambers, and when you should go fade.
-Don't let your res pile up.
-If you don't trust yourself to fade or onos or lerk well, then at the beginning of the game, run to the nearest RT and place it down. Then place down 3 DCs. Doing that will help your team a lot regardless of what else you do.
-Don't waste webs in places where marines will never go.
-If you are lerk, and aren't very good, then sit back and use spores and umbra.
-If you see an onos, then follow him around using umbra, but don't block him.
-If you are a skulk, then your job is to take down RTs and scout.
-If you see a large group of marines moving somewhere, tell your team.
-Buy a mic.
-If you need help or don't know what to do, then ask for it.
-Get minimaps with location names. When someone tells you to go somewhere, you will know where it is (http://www.unknownworlds.com/forums/index.php?showtopic=60560 - this thread has them, but you'll have to dig a few pages in to find maps for the current version)
-Camp. Don't rush into a room. If you are hiding (as an alien) in a good location, or are at the end of a long hallway (as a marine), then you have an advantage. Don't give away that advantage by rushing in and dying.
Whats a good site for minimaps?
Don't sit there cloaked while your fellow Kharaa brethren are attacking/being attacked. Playing as a team is a good thing <!--emo&:)--><img src='http://www.unknownworlds.com/forums/html/emoticons/smile-fix.gif' border='0' style='vertical-align:middle' alt='smile-fix.gif' /><!--endemo-->
Leap-biting is a useful to know as well.

Good list, these are the most important if you can't remember them all.
My own addition:
The most important thing is your 2nd hive. Aliens win most games where the 2nd hive is successfully built. Watch for marines rushing to it.
If you're going to cap a nozzle, cap something close to your hive. If it's too far away you won't be able to run in and defend it.

Ceilings are obvious. But dont forget to check over the rails of pits or under overhangs that are over pits.
A smart skulk will wall stick to/in these areas and wait for the unsuspecting marines to pass by thinking everything is clear. Then they will attack from behind.

Lesson 1.2: On CO,learn to love the cloaking ability. As a skulk.
Lesson 2: NS is the real deal and that's where you'll need to learn to distinguish between just shooting the baddies and the fact you have to obey someone and expand quickly.
Lesson 2.1: If you pick the Marines (good choice for NS newbies), always listen to ur commander and his waypoints.
Lesson 2.1.1: Do not ask immediately for the best weapons, armor and jetpacks and stuff; they cost res and need to be researched via the building of many structures.
Lesson 2.1.2: Do not be the commander of the Marines. Period.
Lesson 2.2: If you pick the Aliens (advanced choice), learn how to conserve ur own resources wisely and learn that killing the Marines also gives resources.
Lesson 3: A quick guide on some briefed-down words and meanings....
res= resources
rt= resource tower
fade= fade,as in the annoying hit n' run alien.
onos= onos,as in the elephant alien that if occurring too early,it's time to die.
gorge= gorge,as in the alien that builds stuff and likes spitting acid. (must be a camel thing)
mc= movement chamber (aliens only), it allows teleportation to each hive you own.
dc= defense chamber (aliens only), it heals nearby units and structures.
oc= offense chamber (" "), attacks nearby Marines.
sc= sensory chamber (" "), cloaks nearby units and structures unless attacked or bumped into.
wp= (Marines only) waypoint, used by commander to give orders, look on map to obey it.
comm= (Marines only) commander, he runs the whole Marine show, listen to him or die. Crap commanders can get voted to kick.
jp (Marines only)= jetpack, which is used to hover-camp aliens, hover out of reach of ground aliens and make pretty blue trails.
tf (" ")= turret factory, makes turrets.
seige (" ")= a seige turret, can attack structures only through solid walls up to a distance.
ha (" ")= heavy armor, makes you slow but very strong.
lmg/hmg (" ")= light/heavy machine gun; one is ur standard weapon, the other is better than the light one but reloads slower.
sg= (" ")= shotgun, it's good up close for killing skulks in possible 1-hit, also asked for when the fades come out to play.
Learn the rest by asking patiently.
Lesson 4: You will get called a newbie,noob or nooblet a lot. Remember that when you score a kill on them. <!--emo&:)--><img src='http://www.unknownworlds.com/forums/html/emoticons/smile-fix.gif' border='0' style='vertical-align:middle' alt='smile-fix.gif' /><!--endemo--> <!--emo&::asrifle::--><img src='http://www.unknownworlds.com/forums/html/emoticons/asrifle.gif' border='0' style='vertical-align:middle' alt='asrifle.gif' /><!--endemo--> <!--emo&:angry:--><img src='http://www.unknownworlds.com/forums/html/emoticons/mad-fix.gif' border='0' style='vertical-align:middle' alt='mad-fix.gif' /><!--endemo-->
Lesson 5: If you are asking for sniper rifles, the gauss gun,an AWP or any other weapons besides the NS armory, leave NS right now and go back to Counter-****.
Lesson 6: Did I mention not ever to take CO seriously? Good. Remember that.
Lesson 7: Don't hog the armory. You'll probably die a lot to start with,so just load up 100 bullets on your light machine gun, maybe an extra 10 on pistol then go out there.
Lesson 8: Have fun. If NS wasn't fun,it's being dominated by CO or is offline.
Lesson 9: Join the 'CSS' group by adding it to your name at the start. See siggie below.
