Is Ns What You Thought It Would Be?

when you first played ns... was it what you expected it to be?

i mean when i watched the trailer i thought ns maps would be all dark and moody... being a marine would be scary, thats what i thought. so i was wrong about the dark scary maps, none of them are that dark really, no deep shadows to hide in. but it was defo scary the first few times playing as marine, the first time you see an oni running around corner or a blinknig fade hit you from no were... is just classic

I wish maps would be darker and aliens had a nightvision-esque vision, but I guess Flayra doesn't like that, maps were dark enough in 1.04.

yes, it was, but the other way round
i am always thinking of a FPS and RTS hybrid when i tried CS and AOC

the first time i played i joined aliens. i dont know why. but apparently we were winning badly, because i just sat in hive and changed to other life forms to see what i could do. i i remember changing to lerk and deciding that sucked horribly because it was slow and didnt have very good attacks. it wasnt until next game i realized it could fly

Well, I thought it was just a simple Sci-Fi game.

Oooh boy how wrong I was. Thanks NS team for STEALING MY SOUL.

i wasnt expecting Ns to be so imersive... their arent many mods that grab the player and suck them in... GG ns team =P

ns is by far the best thing EVER to come out of the hl engine, weither you like it or not. no one, not even the offical games made with it, tweaked and squeezed every ounce of power out of the hl engine like NS does.

I think the game is great as is. Any darker and it would get rediculous. There are still plenty of vents for aliens to hide in. And the whole NS team steals my soul thing, well yeah they pretty much set up a soul stealing vortex on the internet and caught unsuspecting people looking up information on Darwin's Theory of Natural Selection. (Thats how they got me.)

i got into it at the end of beta2 when a m8 from cs said it was crap, so i thought id try it out anyways. boy he was wrong.

and maybe its my monitor but none of the official maps are dark for me O_o

i dont gamma hack or anything, i just turn gamma up full in the ns options, and leave brightness at standard. some maps are to bright imo... *cough*vail*cough*

The maps were originally pretty dark. I remember ns_caged being much darker. I Wish Caged hadnt of been messed around with. Orange vents? double nodes? Gah!

I remember the first time I joined a game...it was on ns_caged in 1.04. The very *first* thing I did was hit tab and see if we were winning...by who was dead. The first round of NS was SO confusing. I had no idea what was going on. I had no idea if we were winning or losing. I was befuddled that I couldnt drop Offense Chambers as skulk. I kept asking how to be the fat one. Man. Those were the days.

It took me something like two weeks to finally be able to get a sense of the gameflow and see if we were winning/losing within seconds upon entry into the game.

I originally heard about NS from a friend in AP Physics, and after I figured out what was going on, I loved it. It was FPS, and yet it was RTS. I could play the same map over and over and use a different strat everytime. NS was the ****. When everyone worked together to help the team win.

A friend told me about it over the phone and he was so excited about it telling me about the different alien lifeforms. All I needed to hear was that there were aliens that could walk on walls and aliens that could fly. That was enough to hook me. I also started by playing aliens and I hated marines for the first couple of months playing. This was back in 1.03 when I began.

My first encounter with NS was when a friend IM'ed me a link to the old site and simply said "NS>CS". I found a download link, started the download, and read through the manual as I waited.

Natural-selection, in the ancient days of 1.01 yore... I was instantly in love. I never expected anything to be that much better than CS, and I was totally taken by suprise.

There's a big difference between "WTH, .10 gamma? I can't see a thing"-dark, and "Wow, I totally did not notice that Skulk there"-dark.

At any rate, NS was alot better than I expected. While the "dark and atmospheric" part didn't hold true after 1.0x, the rest was spot-on.

Well i started playing ns like 2 weeks before 1.04, dont know what version that was.The only thing i remember was when i first saw a onos as a marine.I was with 2 or 3 marines and it was a long corridor. We shot and he kept coming. That was scary and after that i started playing more aliens because they where the pwn after my first sighting of onos.Ah and the second thing i loved was cloak and those hear marines, cloak, just cloaked as marines walk by moments as a gorge.Well more or less cloak ruled and i love it still.

I was introduced to NS at a lan party on Halloween, and I played it on a LAN listen server, 1v1, just trying it out. I was an alien on ns_nothing (obscenely dark at the time), and my hive was viaduct. Fun times.

Sometime one year ago, i was playing BattleGrounds mod and someone said
him: "i've played all the mods, cs, dod, ns, but this one is my favorite"
    me: "ns?"
him: "what? uve never heard of natural selection? *gives few details* check it out, natural-selection.org"
    *checks*

honestly, i expected a death-match type humanoid-looking-aliens vs marines. i didn't even click the "about" button. from that day forth, i played NS at least 5 times a week

much more than i expected. before that i was a cs nubcaek

I found the page for Firearms one day, which made me want to buy Half-life (this was around 2001-2, because I'd never really heard of it before). Eventually (because FA is quite buggy - still, and everyone seemed obsessed with other mods) I just looked around for stuff to play. I found CS, DoD, Wizard Wars and NS. I think it was a 4 months before I got around to registering on the forums.

...Not really any reason I looked into besides it being one of the more fun mods I played. Despite the fact I rarely comm and never use my mic . I just remember being a gorge during the Perma-gorge days with my good ol' 56k.

I'm still not quite sure why I play it .

I think dark maps could be really fun in single-player, but they're generally frustrating in multi-player (plus most players will just boost their monitor or gamma and ruin the effect and make the rest of the artwork look like crap).

I don't even remember how I got into this. But doesn't matter, as I know that I sure won't be getting out! This mod is better than any other mod, or I'll go as far as to say any other game. Yes, in my opinion, this is the best game/mod, ever created. I play it the most, I enjoy it the most. I like it more than Space Invaders, more than Pacman, more than Duke Nukem, more than Starcraft, more than Age of Empires, more than Half Life 1 OR Half Life 2, more than Counter Strike, more than anything. It simply is the best game I've ever played.
    Yeah, I love it.

I played Ns the most. More than the specialists, firearms, wanted, CS, DOD, TFC, science and industry, sven coop, battlegrounds, front line force and rocket crowbar.

thats basically all the half life mods i know.
