Warning: Lots of Screenshots
This is my public release of my first NS map. It takes place on a water treatment space station. There is more info in the file's readme, and the directory structure in the zip fill will extract properly if you extract to your NS directory. Your comments and critiques are welcome. Thanks, and now onto the screenshots. The crappy college webspace I have now may be a bit slow, so be patient. Click on the pictures for a higher resolution pic.

*edit*
I'm an idiot, got all of the screenshots working, but didn't include the link to the actual file. You can get the map here.

It could be due to not gamma-adjusting the sceenies, but the lighting looks a little... bland. There's not a lot of variation in lighting.

I just increased the brightness, I probably should've increased the contrast too

If you have photoshop or paintshop you can have a look in the mapping faq, Cagey posted a small guide on how to get you screenshots to look good.

You should have increased the gamma.

Nice for a first map, but too open for me.

I really like your infestation work in screens 4-7.

The hive room in screen 2 needs work; it is very open and vulnerable to jetpackers. Not only that, but lights will be able to jump off the top without taking damage due to the water. Try to put in more detail which also functions as cover.

The hive room in screen 3 also needs more cover, though the room itself looks much better.

I'm a little leery of how open screen 4 is, but without a better view I don't know how it would play. Rather nice looking room, however.

Screens 5-7 all look good, very nice infestation. If you're new, as you appear to be, note that clip brushes really help with sticking issues in the infestation.

Screen 8 appears to be a rather nice hallway, consider some clip brushes on the walls to be friendly to the skulks.

Screen 9 looks rather nice gameplay-wise, though I feel like it is missing something in the asthetics area, I'm not sure what.

Screen 10 is a room that the skulk in me really likes.

Screen 11 is also very good, could use a railing for asthetics.

Screen 12 looks to be an evil skulk bombing hallway; I like it.

Screen 13 could possibly use a border around the doorways, and a railing might look good on that catwalk. Looks like a good room.

Screen 14 makes me cringe at the thought of jetpacks, which is sad because I like how you have made the room. One thing that might work is to partially obscure the hivewith that wonderful infestation work. Another possible thing would be to move the hanging crate to obscure the hive and include it with some of the infestation.

Screen 15 probably could use some form of cover in front of what I assume to be the entrances to protect against spawncamping.

Screens 16 and 17 are very nice asthetically, it appears that it will play well also.

Could you possibly show us your layout? I look forward to seeing more of this map.

I'm a lerker at heart, and my favorite rooms in official maps are the large rooms where lerks play a larger role. A good lerk is much better than a good jper, although I do realize it makes it tough for other creatures, but I also felt that the vertical layout of some of the hives gives the aliens an advantage, marines are forces to take the long routes to the higher sections while most of the aliens can fight in the multi-tiered environment.

Thanks for your replys, but just because it doesn't follow standard ns room structure doesn't mean it doesn't work gameply wise. In our testing of it, we found that players who were willing to adapt to the more open areas did better.

oh, and I've clipped of all the appropriate places, so most walls are skulk friendly, and there is little to no sticking issues.

Well, if you have tested the rooms and they played well, then I have no complaint.

It is difficult to see specific locations on your layout. Could you mark hives, ms, and node locations so we can comment?

I'll get on that asap, I'm in a programming class right now, and I'll do it some time today.

Thanks again for all of your comments and critiques, they help a lot.

Well, now I feel rather foolish as I didn't see the download link in the first post... I got the chance to play on this map today and found that there were only a couple halls that were too open. I did not get to see much action in the hives due to it being a 6 player game, so I cannot comment on them. I'll be watching for this map so I can play on it more.

This looks very nice. I'm not sure why but it has a very Quake feel to it. I do agree with the fact that it needs more cover. The right-hand route to the bottom of the map [from Cargo Bay 2 to Ventilation - Ed] only has one route early on, and it seems like the map has a huge amount of 'entropy' on the left side compared the top-right. If you don't think this will affect either team too much then it won't need changing but it could make certain Hives easier/more difficult to play as Aliens.

Leave the verticle componant in the Hives so it will always be known as the "Lerk Training Grounds" map

Here is another overview with the hives and marine spawn labled, for those of you who haven't downloaded it yet. As for sounds, I tried to keep my entity count as low as possible, and I felt one of the areas I could afford to cut corners was the sound entities, so I removed a bunch of them.
