A Celeron is a cut-down Pentium. It's slower, but cheaper.
Then again, all things considered you could get an AMD CPU instead, pay as much as you would for the Celeron, but get better performance than the Pentium.
Also, the 'latest geforce' isn't the best selection for HL2. nVidia can't hold a candle to ATi in that realm... even their SLI rig gets beaten out by the single top-end Radeon (R X850-XTPE). i think someone told me something along the lines of celeron 2.6 being about as fast as a pentium 2.3ish, which is about as fast as an AMD 2.0ish. i think. i might be terribly wrong/
SillyGoose is pretty much right, but it is more like 2.4 to 1.6, including FSB differences.
Generally for gaming, get anything but a celeron, duron, sempron (all the cheapies) same price in a p4, Athlon XP or Athlon64 will be more powerful almost gaurenteed.
Take a look at the level 2 cache sizes for yourself: Intel Pentium 4 2.4GHZ 512KB L2 Cache PGA478 800MHZ FSB Supports HT Intel® Celeron® D Processor 2.4GHz 256KB L2 Cache
Also, the L1 and L2 cache speed contribute throughly, and the celeron has a 533 FSB and no HT as well vs the P4's 800 FSB and HT enabled.
and 256 ram isnt very much for HL², i believe its the minimum....or at least i would never play with less. I would reccomend 512 or 768 at least if u want good model detail and load times.
keep in mind that celerons were made for browsing the internet, checking email, and word processing. Not anything especially cpu intensive....

A celeron is about the worst choice you can get. A bit cheaper than a Pentium, but much worse. For the same price, get an Athlon XP, or for budget, go for an Athlon XP. Either way, don't go Pentium.
