<div class="IPBDescription">2.5 gigapixels O_O</div> saw this on a diff forum and its amazing, you can even read the license plates of the cars

<a href='http://www.torrentbits.org/redir.php?http://www.tpd.tno.nl/smartsite966.html' target='_blank'>News Link</a>
<a href='http://www.torrentbits.org/redir.php?http://www.tpd.tno.nl/Pics/DII/gigazoom/Delft2.htm' target='_blank'>link to photo</a>

TNO has produced the largest digital panoramic photo in the world. So, what do we mean by large? After all, modern consumer cameras can easily take a picture with 5 million pixels. Well, we are talking about a photo of completely different dimensions. One with 2.5 billion pixels - that's 500 times more pixels. If this photo were printed, it would measure 6.67 m by 2.67 m (300 dpi). The photograph shows Delft and its surroundings in the autumn of 2004. It was taken the top of the Electrical Engineering faculty of Delft University, at a height of about 100 m, by TNO.

There is a 5 gigapixel photo of a cliff, the only difference is that it won't let you zoom in and have fun like on that one. I like the one you posted better.

The half cars must be because of the time it took for the picture to capture everything. By the time it was there again, things had moved. Or something.

That's right. If you look really carefully in some bits you can see the photo is stitched together.

Oh and KFS, that wasn't the shot I was thinking about but it has a nice story. Here is the one I was talking about.

Try googling Keyhole.. its a program you can use free for 7 days (google just acquired the company actually)

It uses sattelite images (like 100 terabytes of em or somtehing) that let you zoom in on... anything in the world...

I was looking at my town (a little shitstain one) i could see my house, stores i knew, hell, i could see cars in the driveway ect.... its cool here in college to ask a random kid, whats ur address.. and show him his house.... it freaks ppl out (u just type in the address and it goes...)

Hmm, it stays blurry for me when I zoom in at great amounts. Or is it loading the details?
