I know loading the map from the console just drops you into the map like a ready room...

Wondering how I would go about doing this (if it's possible)

That reminds me of Counter-Life and would be great fun for a while. It'd be cool if you could gestate. The whole concept is probably unrealistic, though. I suppose playing as a marine is feasible, though. Actually, you CAN load up HL maps in NS. I took a screenshot some time ago.

ya and xenocide goes out the door. BOOM then you gotta load your saved game

Fade or lerk would rock. Acid rocket or gas those silly marines.

playing as a marine is kinda pointless imho.

Turn on cheats with sv_cheats 1. Load the map with map whatever. The hl maps are labeled cXaX usually, where the Xs are numbers. Then you can use jointeamone or jointeamtwo to become a marine or alien. However, be careful that you know where the level switch triggers are. If you hit them and it tries to load up the next level, it will most likely hard lock half life.

I just tried going into it as a skulk. Some scripted sequences didn't work; for me, the first appearance of a headcrab and first appearance of a gargantua played their respective audiovisual effects, but no such enemies appeared. Though I didn't check out more than a couple levels, no NPC's (friendly or enemy) appeared in places I expected to see them. And the triggers to go to another level don't crash--they just don't trigger. As in, you'll go to the end of a hallway, and instead of going to the next/previous "section," you'll be able to walk all the way to that hallway's dead end.

I must say, though...if someone could arrange for it to work as smoothly as counter-life did, it'd be a nice little diversion, and if someone could get it working in <i>co-op</i> so me and some skulk buddies could start wreaking havoc all over the place....tee hee hee <!--emo&:D--><img src='http://www.unknownworlds.com/forums/html//emoticons/biggrin-fix.gif' border='0' style='vertical-align:middle' alt='biggrin-fix.gif' /><!--endemo-->

Some of the special abilities propably wouldn't work. Stomp for example is likely something that needs ns-specific code to work.

Yeah, but I have to admit it would be fun (and easy) to play half-life as a lerk, fade or onos. And as skulk it would be moderately hard. As a gorge you could still do it I bet...you have ranged attacks.

For the monsters you might need to set mp_allowmonsters to 1. I think the game still thinks you're in multiplayer mode. For the level triggers, that's odd, it always crashed on me. Time to go fiddle with it again.

Edit: Well, no, mp_allowmonsters doesn't do anything. I did get a few level transitions that actually worked, but most often they crash right out to desktop with a 'bad decal list' error. I'm guessing it's the fact that none of the models are included in the game so they can't be loaded. Although I did run across one of the automatic turrets from HL and it was replaced by a standard NS sentry turret. It still played the HL sounds though, so that was kind of amusing. Possibly some metamod work could make the game actually playable, who knows?

Dispite the fact that you can do that already because it isn't a skulk specific movment ability. Bunnyhopping in HL is originally a Gordan Freeman ability, and that preceded all mod bunny hopping.

The Crowbar-wielding Physicist seemingly violating the laws of physics just by jumping up and down.

Gordon was the only one that understood the physics of it. Everyone else just copied him.

One must earn a PHD in theoretical physics before he can TRULY bunnyhop like a master.

I'd like to see some skulks eating some headcrabs.

The garg only takes energy weapon or expolsives damage. Onos would loose. It'd be a more fair fight to see onos vs. gonarch. It'd be funny to play through entier original HL using a fade. Blink would so pwn.

/me blinks ontop of osprey and rides around for awhile.

    Can you imagine a fade or lerk in Xen? Imao! <!--emo&:0--><img src='http://www.unknownworlds.com/forums/html//emoticons/wow.gif' border='0' style='vertical-align:middle' alt='wow.gif' /><!--endemo-->

As far as I remember, there is a metamod plugin that allows you to put in monsters from HL into anyother mod. I added some headcrab zombies and went fade. I changed the zombie's attack and HP to match the fade's point for point. Quite a difficult battle since they can hit you very quickly for 2 hits and confuse the heck out of me with their screen movements they do to you.

Counter-life? Never heard of it... must do some googling...

If Half-Life still thinks it's in multiplayer mode while playing an HL1 map, Sven Co-op's original purpose was to allow you to play the HL1 maps in co-op. While HL1 in NS is not co-op, it's still multi. However Sven made the fixes to the HL1 maps to make them work in multi. I think he did it via changing the entity files, though I'm not sure. You may be able to borrow some of those and create a Frankenmod that works.
