Outside my house...
Well I remember there was a post a while back about Verizon's new fiber optic FIOS internet connections. Well, its finally come to my neighborhood, specifically in front of my house. I came home from school today to find about 5 or so Verizon subcontractor trucks outside my house. They are just about finishing up. I was checking out the stuff for the FIOS service and I compared it to Comcast HSI.

Comcast HSI: $52.99 (3 Mbps)
Verizon FIOS: $39.99 (5 Mbps)

The Verizon package that I listed is their cheapest/slowest one. You can get the 15 Mpbs connection for $50. Is this too good to be true?

Oh and so you can all be jealous:

Also, they are offering a total package of phone, internet and TV in one bill .

Wow. And SBC and verizon still have yet to even offer ANY service to my area. They (SBC) do have a truck that comes out here daily. But he's been coming for like 2 years now, so I don't think he is doing his job. I yell things at him as I pass by.

    Suburban Philadelphia here.

We should be getting hooked up soon as this area is a large center for the tech industry.

We were one of the first areas to get Verizon DSL which I love so hopefully the fiber will follow shortly.

Eh, not to be an ****, but here in Sweden we have 10 mbit/s in every major city for around 40$/month, and in some parts you can get 100 mbit/s for the same amount.

I'm on the outskirts of the capital of North Carolina, why can't I get anything besides $30 256/56 Lite DSL or $50 1000/(something) DSL.

We don't get SBC Yahoo or anything over here, but we do get roadrunner..which I need to convince my parents to switch to. Or earthlink DSL.

I live in maine, and when Verizon DSL came to the area, we were among the very first in the entire region to get it. After dealing with 3+ months of non-responsive servers and the DSL generally not working, they got their act straight.

    Then they capped my BW.

Living on top of a mountain makes me sad. Maybe I should've stayed in the city.

I do, however, get 1.5Mbps cable. Try not to laugh.

    wonder why it's $40 for 5mbps, $50 for 15mbps, and $200 for 30mbps...

most products in life get cheaper by the dozen, not more expensive...

Where do you live man? My dad called Verizon awhile ago about billing stuff. I live near Philly, and they said by the end of the year.

You missed the upload factor. The smaller packages have only 2 mb up, instead of the massive 5 mb provided with the $200 package.

So, in the future, high definition porn videos will be downloaded at insanely fast speeds alongside a gaming server, while surfing the internet and sending files through chat applications.

    I can't wait.
