Just gotta say it
i just wanted to commend flayra publically on the vision he had for NS. In my humble opinion...mixing RTS qualities into an FPS is the most original idea since scripted sequences. bravo

Since scripting sequences? What ever happened to sliced bread! I must agree, this mod got my attentioned the second I read it mixed FPS and RTS; I have been hooked ever since

Yeah, there have been a lot of mixes between different game types. Most fail. The whole of my confiedence is placed here. Im sure that this hybrid will work great and and glad someone htought of it. By the same token, I wish I had. So its a love/hate relationship.

Hail the First Person Real Time Strategy Shooter! With a good commander the game becomes perfectly balanced. And at last, veterans of RTS's with horrible shooting skills have a position!

I can only hope the game will be as cool as it seems now, but I have faith in this team.....

Yeah, the concept Flayra has in mind nothing short of incredible.
I'd like to say that I was attracted by this, but I was already with the game when the CM had not even been announced

BTW, Jedisar: [brainswitchedoff]It's simple: Every slice of bread gives your body a certain amount of biological energy, every attempt of slicing bread costs you some biological energy.
So, unsliced bread means less energy for the same price![/brainswitchedoff]

I too was drawn to this game by reading the brief concept description depicted in PC Gamer some months ago. After going through the list of upcoming Half-Life mods, I ended up checking this out one first, hoping that it was already released and ready to play. After being somewhat discouraged initially, after finding out that of course the game was not ready yet, I decided to hang around to see what the team does. So far I've been impressed.

My only short term goal in my little gaming life is to get ahold of beta 1.0 and to play the hell out of it with my friends. Afterward, you can bet that I'll have my own reviews, complete with suggestions for improvement. I'm just that picky.

I thought the valve guys at TF2 had the original idea for the commander class. Atleast that's where I first heard it.
http://tf2.sierra.com/
it says a little about commander mode
and there was a lotta buzz before, when I used to care about TF2 about the commander mode.

Though I seriously doubt that valve was planning on implementing RTS gameplay into TF2. I really don't think it was the same basic idea anyways... or did the commander have a rts type view in TF2? It's been so long...

Well, don't forget that Tribes, Global Warfare, and BattleZone have commander modes, after a fact. They just don't get used very often, as none of them were implemented very well...

And as for TF2... *cough* vapor *cough*

What?!? The old, vector-based, 1st '3-D' game that I can remember, tank combat game had a commander mode?

true, while Flayra seems to be doing it right, he did not actually invent the merging of the two genres...though i must commend him for the poliush that he's doing it with...even though i dont get to playetst it...grrrr.
Heheheh, as for TFC2........anyone hear that? No, because there's nothing there!

NS may not have invented the FPS/RTS hybrid but it looks like this might be (one of) the first to get it right. A lot of stuff that's been mentioned about the playtest makes me realize that this is not just a simple team-based FPS with a few passing RTS elements thrown in. I can't tell you how much I'm looking forward to playing this

The difference between TF2 and NS is that in TF2, you were going to be JUST ordering units around. There were no resources, no plans for buildings or anything more complex than a turret.

I took notice of natural selection only a few days ago, and instantly fell in love with the design and the ideas. Right now I started mapping, but my main problem is that until now I have been mapping for dod, which meant that I have been doing open area maps for all my mapping life and consequently I have my difficulties with in-door level design of the kind needed for NS.

Thanks for the great concept...may be I can come up with some map shots in a few weeks time, where you wont notice dod mapping behind.

keep up the great work..

yeah, actually there was a plan for a tf2 map where engineers collected "resource" barrels for the commander. Although this could be a lot different, because from what I've heard. TF2 has been overhauled several times already

Well, maybe not that one, but the Battlezone after that had satellite view which wasn't a very important part of the game, though handy. =)

When I first read your post my eyes skipped vector-based, so I though you were referring to the newer activision Battlezone. :S
