zodazoda Join Date: 2002-11-05 Member: 7175Members

destroying offense chambers? defense?
It seems half the time when I am marine that the commander wont upgrade weapons or armor so I end up with low armor and low damaging weapons... , beside's yelling at the commander what can I do in this situation? I can on load 30 nades with the grenade launcher and it wont die.... espicially when there is offense chambers around it? hwta can I do to destroy these? it seems by the time I reload they structures are already healed again.. I even tried unloading 250 bullets from a HMG and it didnt help... 30 bullets wont do it for me and the reload is too slow, any tips?

I'm suprised... Usually I can use 50 or so rounds from a HMG and take out one Offense chamber with a few defense lying in the back. Have you tried aiming for just one offense chamber? Also if you can, hide around corners or behind objects when you try to destroy them. If that doesn't work, theres always the possiblity of running straight at them and jumpin over them and later shooting the defense chambers leaving the offense ones. However thats like suicide 95% of the time.

yeah, actually there is this one spot in hera where I could shoot from acorner at an offense chamber and it would be able to get me, but I still couldn't seem to get it. My aim isn't horrible.

Oh yeah I forgot to add : I like to play small games to prevent major lag so it's hard to have teamates stay with me when there is only one other guy and the commander or just a commander.

what are you talking about here. which structures? if its a hive it will take quite a while to destroy. however an offense chamber will take around 150 lmg bullets, (depending on how many miss and hit etc). unloading 30 grenades into a structure i imagine would own anything. it wasnt a marine resource tower you mistook for an alien structure?

yer also if there is alot of defensive chambers surrounding it the structures will heal. just stick with your team against multiple alien structures to take them down alot quicker

Well...try this. This may seem obvious but anyways, aim for the base of the structures. It is almost always a sure shot when aiming at the bottom. And the ducking behind corners and walls and stuff is good too to block oncomin turret....stuff. Anyhoo.....long answer short, try aiming for the base.

Pistol deals more damage per bullet than an HMG and shoots extremely fast. A good, accuracte, 200 damage. Suprise someone in a vent when you shoot from across the room or unload a few clips into an OC when you just see a few pixels of its base.

The pistol can carry 800 points of damage with all its clips.

I also recommend trying to find and destroy any nearby DC's before bothering with OC's whenever possible. As a smart gorge will make those offense chambers very fast healing with his defense chambers backing them up as fast as you can LMG them...

how many points of damage can an offensive chamber take?
  • zodazoda Join Date: 2002-11-05 Member: 7175Members
I can get them, it's just hard.

I really hate haviung a bunch of offense chambers with a DC behing it.. , If I try and get the DC I am shot by the OC's, If I try to get the OC's they regenerate.

    Since patch 1.0.1:

Offensive chamber health increased from 1100 to 1200

I allways find strafing shooting and covering again is usefull, also i duck so you can see the top of them so they cant hit you, or either i weld them.

Chambers do seem to take damage a lot faster near the base. Strafing works good ... shooting a few bursts then ducking behind something before the tower has a chance to zoom in on you, especially if the gorge didn't put a sensory tower in the cluster. Go for any exposed defensive chambers first, then the offensive chambers will be easier to take out.

Sometimes, you get a wall of OCs with a wall of DCs behind them, and no other OCs on the other side of the wall. In this case, if you're at full health and the chambers are close to you and they're already firing at somebody else, sometimes you can get away with pretending you're a skulk and jumping over them. Then you can knife the DCs to pieces, or LMG the gorge if he's still there building stuff, and the DCs will protect you from the OC's fire.

Of course, once you finish off the last DC, the OCs will almost certianly kill you unless the Commander has nothing better to do than micromanage your **obscenity**. This is called taking one for the team, and it's something every new NS player needs to learn how to do. Self-sacrifice can be very important in this game, when it pays off.

Another good idea is to build a frikking seige turret. There are some gooey alien walls you simply CANNOT LMG through. You need either 2 guys with power armor and welders or a seige or two. Marines need to learn to assess the situation and stop throwing their lives away trying to chisel away at an enormous wall by strafing, and start bravely sacrifing themselves with ballsy daredevil moves, but ONLY when they stand a realistic chance of actually pulling them off.

Also, when the commander is upgrading for the seige, face the turret factory and hold down your use key. Faster research = good.

Of course, sometimes, strafing around the wall with an LMG works great, especially if you got a bunch of buddies training your fire on the same chamber, and there's only 2 or 3 defs.

Consider the suggestions in this post as alternative tactics to use when strafing just doesn't seem to be cutting it.

Oh, shoot. I forgot. Sometimes, OCs are invincible. This is a bug in the code, and I won't tell more aliens how to exploit it, but it can be done. Hopefully it'll be fixed in a patch soon.
