    <b>Creative Zen</b>

    Or

    <b>iRiver</b>

    ----------------
Buying an iPod is paying extra for a brand name.

    That is all.

hmmm yeah sounds good but will it be able to use in a car easy.

Like with a special tape you can get that plugs into you MP3 player so you can play your music through the car audio system.

What's your price range? The new Archos Gmini 420 looks nice and is not too big, roughly size/weight of the iPod). It's also a DivX reader (either on the screen, or by linking it to a TV or something) and around 350 Euros for 20 GB. Includes a CF reader for any necessary transfer on the go.

when it comes to car MP3 players (where you don't really need a small one) you could save money and get an MP3 player that works from burned CDs - many of those are less than $50...

I was looking at an MP3 player on THG yesterday. I just did a quick search but I can't find the article. This thing is pretty big but it has an FM transmitter built in. Set it to a frequency you want to broadcast at and tune your car radio into it. It's relatively short range (unless you decide to mod it). You can also modify it's software if you want.

If you only choose between an iPod and a Creative, I'd go for the Creative without a doubt. At least where I live, they cost about 60-75% as much as an iPod. The space is about the same, so is the weight, dimensions and battery time. If you pick the right Creative, you can also replace batteries for it (you can't on some models, so be sure to check that out first). Also, from what I've heard, the Creative players have the best audio quality compared to any other player by far.

I have something for my iPod (called the iTrip) that does the same, I use it in my car as my car radio has no input jacks <!--emo&:(--><img src='http://www.unknownworlds.com/forums/html//emoticons/sad-fix.gif' border='0' style='vertical-align:middle' alt='sad-fix.gif' /><!--endemo-->

But if you ask me which mp3 player. I would say ipod all the way. Sure they are more expensive, but from what I can tell, you get what you pay for.
They are a dream to use.

Because I don't want to start my own topic, I have a question:

Can someone tell me a MP3 player with playback quality equal to or better than an iPod, at least 20GB of memory, and no software required to load songs or files onto it?

Can't say anything about the software you use for these, but...

    <a href='http://www.creative.com/products/product.asp?category=213&subcategory=214&product=9288&nav=1' target='_blank'>Creative NOMAD Jukebox Zen Xtra</a>
    <a href='http://www.creative.com/products/product.asp?category=213&subcategory=214&product=4836&nav=1' target='_blank'>Creative NOMAD Jukebox Zen NX</a>

The tests I've read says these have better audio quality than any other player (though it might've changed since I saw the review). They are a bit heavier than the iPods, but they cost a lot less.

I say buy the Zen, but take it from someone who knows, be careful with 'em. An iPod and a Zen are about the same after you drop 'em a few times.

There is a line of BMWs that actually have a built in iPod dock inside the glove comparment.

    I just found the player I was talking about. It's a brick <!--emo&:)--><img src='http://www.unknownworlds.com/forums/html//emoticons/smile-fix.gif' border='0' style='vertical-align:middle' alt='smile-fix.gif' /><!--endemo-->

I've always wanted an mp3 player, but my mind says just to stick with cd's because they are the same as mp3 players and a lot cheaper.

You'll have to carry a lot of CDs though, and change them once in a while. Get one of them Creative with 60GB of storage, and you'll have room for every song you're ever likely to have (assuming you're not downloading a ridiculous amount of high-quality songs), and then some.

I just use an iPod Mini and an iTrip mini. Works great. With the added advantage that with the click of a button I can jam any FM frequency I choose (and override it with my music if I feel like it). Very useful for going on trips in the school van when the prissy **** of the class chooses to listen to her emo station I and I override it with blissful silence (or static, I recorded some to make it seem more legit, radio stations are never just silent) and she can't figure out what happened.
