One of my friends is like "Airplane, what the hell is that? Noone's seen that." He was trying to argue that Starsky and Hutch is the funniest movie ever. I have got to get new friends.

Spy hard was the death nell of the "zany comedy" movie. After that all you get is the "2001: a space travsty"s and other such terrible films, which make me cry. Leslie Neilson has come a long way since the genious of the days of the Police Squad TV series. They used to show that on Comedy Central once in a while, back when Comedy Central still had all the classics like Monty Python and MST. Now they only have a few good shows in their lineup, for every old South Park, UCB, and Strangers With Candy, there's 3 Strip Malls or New South Parks. Comedy is in a bad state today.

Rowan Atkinson cheapens any movie he gets his grubby little face into.

Some people call sarcasm the lowest form of wit, or toilet humour the lowest form of humour, they're wrong, Mr Bean is the lowest form of humour.

But yes DOOM, Airplane does indeed own, and yeah, you're waaaaaaaay late on this one.

its so funny going back and watching this movie. The type of humor used in this movie was based mostly on randomness and shock factor, todays audience is looking for more sophisticated movies, so if you ask someone who has never seen it to watch it, they will most likely say it sucks

hmm..i clicked on the link, saw that the movie was from the 1980's and quickly closed the window. Sorry but i dun like old movies.

I recently saw the Indiana Jones series and was BORED. Too old, humor is out of date, and, technologically speaking, primitive. Sorry to all those Indiana Jones fans out there -_-.

And yes, airplane is serious hilarity. Airplane 2, for as much bad press that it generally gets from fans, is also just as worth watching. Sure a lot of the jokes are retreads of the original, but come on. "Danger: Vacuum" is still one of the funniest sight gags in movie history.

Movies seem to be ever increasingly dominated by brainless, humorless, hollywood action movies with exploding cars(does everyone have a pouch of black powder installed in their gas tank in these movies or what?) with inhuman looking wire stunts, guns that fire hundreds of bullets without ever reloading, extremely corny romance scenes, not a single plot twist which takes you by surprise and the standard cookie cutter endings where everyone is happy ever after. You, sir, are sadly mistaken. The Matrix alone was a good movie. The other two just got worse.

As for the sophistication part, there is a minority that wants thinking movies. The majority of the population, and that I mean youth, just want sappy acting and blown up crap. If there is cleavage, guns, explosions, etc., then most likely it will make a bunch of money.

And yes Airplane! is one of the greatest movies ever. I like when the auto-pilot starts groping the stewardess lol.

    old.....

stuff from the 80's is NOT OLD (I am from the 80s!)

the film industry is in a sad state, The Matrix trilogy was not a good trillogy (they were fun to watch, just not good).

Airplane was actualy good (it takes alot of work to be THAT random)

And The Producers. Referring more to the musical than the (old) movie. Although the new Producers movie should be great. It strikes me as odd that it'll be a movie adaptation of a musical adaption of a movie about a musical.

Agreed. Todays slapstick comedies are TERRIBLE. Its all about how much poo can end up on the stupidest or most arrogant character by the end of the movie. The jokes are so overused and predicable that you can literally shout each one out in the theater 5 minutes before they happen without ever watching the movie before. The one exeption recently was Johnny English, but for the most part the humor was too dry to be of amusement anyways.

There is no way in hell you could predict any of the jokes in Airplane with the exception of the running gags. Neilson was a force in comedy that I think is often times greatly overlooked.
