way too unrealistic
NS take place upon outer-space, inside infested space stations from what i know. the rines is transported from drop-ship into the space station in outer space. also you notice the outer-space view through windows. but the problem is...

if its outer space, why would the earth's gravity exist in the game??? im sure that the battle did not take place in some planet.

    Artificial gravity.

    You're unrealistic.

    Nanites.

Seriously, artificial gravity is possible with today's technology. I'm sure it would be no problem for these futuristic space ships to have something to create gravity.

As Anth said, Artificial Gravity, usually generated by the massive power supply with combination of a preserved and manufactored atmosphere.

    Damn I'm a nerd.

some maps are on spacestations in the middle of nowhere (bast, nancy, nothing, lost) and some are planetary installations (eclipse/veil, hera, metal). The planetary installations keeps things on the floor using the planet's gravity, the spacestation would make artificial gravity for the original crew's convenience. The technical explanation is: "nanites".

Are any video games 100% realistic? no, that is why they are fun..to get away from reality! if it where like everyday life it would be boring :-O. Even if you go on a raving rampage with real life physics you'd get shot down by a cop within the hour...and so on...and on..and on...yeah...games arent supposed to be real, thats why they are real...cs isnt real...games in general arent!

The best way to get realism, would be to go take a walk outside.

[sarcasm] Are you kidding? Who wouldn't want to play a "Pay Your Bills" simulation game?! I can see it now, you wake up with a hangover, go to work in a cubicle for 8 hours in real time, and the game ends when your heart gives and you keel over! What fun, who knows, maybe it'll outsell Halo 2?[/sarcasm]

As everyone else mentioned, AG would be used in on the stations, and the planets... well I'm sure you can figure that one out.

there's no gravity in the rooms i play in and i have no idea what a nanite is but if it creates gravity thats pretty messed since i heard like a nanite is all microscopic and shite but only large bodies can create gravitational fields so if something microscopic could do it that would be sorta unnatural in the way of things you know what im getting at because i dont

It's a video game for Flayra's sake... go join the army if you want realism, or if you insist on realism in videogames (hahahahahahah) go play America's Army or Rainbow Six.

    Thank you for your time.

You mean rotating the space station around its axis?
  • SaltzBadSaltzBad Join Date: 2004-02-23 Member: 26833Members
Artifical gravity really isn't a surreal concept. It might be a bit tricky to implement based on what you do see from the maps, but half of them are on stations and not ships anyway. I can spontaneously only think of ns_nancy that adheres to the spaceship idea.

if it was the centrifuge thing then when we look out the window we should see space rotating maybe the TSA found a way to make all of outer space rotate around the space station just so when their troops look out the windows they don't get all dizzy and throw up in their heavy armor suits. yah that must be it. i came up with a good explanation. see, don't worry, s'all good ma babies.

I have a revolutionary suggestion: *Ahem.* Suspension of disbelief.

Folks, I waste upwards to three hours a day on this game, for exactely diddly squat. If even I consider a NS-related topic too trivial to contemplate, and you manage to drag the discussion over two pages, that's what various specialists would describe as a "bad sign"

    They hover without flapping.
  • AlienCowAlienCow Join Date: 2003-09-20 Member: 21040Members
Of course they have legs. Its just that Marines are so well trained that they constantly stay put in a stiff upright position, in case of surprise inspection from TSA Officers. This means that when they look down they lean forward; their whole body pivots on their toes.

Nanite technology prevents each Marine from witnessing another doing this, though.

How would you play an FPS if you couldn't move because you just floated up to the ceiling? :x
