    1. Because you can't play the game without having a comm chair. (Also a res tower comes prebuilt too)
    2. Because you are a marine and it's military knowledge.
    3. Because telefragging sucks.

    (those answers are all, As far as I know, and in my opinion)

    1. Because the "Marine start" used to be the control deck or the control deck backup place for the whole place and base. There was no need for other structures since most peoples were civilian and didn't really need Heavy armor and such.

    2. The release of the Kharaa was a humongous error, and the army doesn't want words to be spread about it.

    3. Because the Phase breaks the bodies in particle on one side and reassemble it on the other side. If 2 peoples phased at the same time, both bodies would combine and would die. so the Phase gate kills on naturally so that only 1 marine is lost and not 2.

    1.: For the same reasons that all marines are in the marine start by the round's beginning: They're being 'phased in' from the carrier in the same way the emergency beacon works before the game starts.
    2.: It's likely known that the Kharaa exist and make the Adrianne Arm's colonist's life hell, but I doubt people know how the Lerk came to its name, if you know what I mean <!--emo&;)--><img src='http://www.unknownworlds.com/forums/html//emoticons/wink-fix.gif' border='0' style='vertical-align:middle' alt='wink-fix.gif' /><!--endemo-->
    3.: Gameplay considerations. In the plot, I'd say it's because personal phase technology is new and energy-intensive.

    i got a few more questions.
    1. Are frontiersmen from the army or are they independent mercenaries hired by coorporations?
    2. why do turrets have to be near the turret factory and weapons dropped near armoury?

    p.s. thanks for the other stuff.

    The <a href='http://www.natural-selection.org/manual/introduction.html' target='_blank'>old manual</a> had a lot more backstory in it. Some quotes from it that may answer your first question, BadMouth:
    <!--QuoteBegin--></div><table border='0' align='center' width='95%' cellpadding='3' cellspacing='1'><tr><td><b>QUOTE</b> </td></tr><tr><td id='QUOTE'><!--QuoteEBegin--><b>What is the TSA?</b>
    The Trans-System Authority is an independent body funded by 37 trans-gov powers (governments or super-corporations that own and operate phase gates between solar systems), and given jurisdiction over trans-system affairs: as defined by a document called The Charter. The Charter is a comprehensive document, covering disarmament, fair trade agreements (most importantly, sharing phase gates), and certain basic civil rights that had become blurred (or tossed aside) during the dark times of the Expansion.

    To enforce The Charter, the Trans-Govs chose Admiral Rathine Studaber, former head of the revived British Secret Service, and gave her a budget for a small military force – which proved hard pressed to stop those same greedy and quarrelsome powers from violating almost every agreement they had made: often concerning their own citizens (termed "population abuse"). It was not very long before the TSA had to resort to military police actions. Its surprising success against the vastly more powerful and far better equipped Trans-Govs earned it the secret hatred of the same powers that created it. They have long been angling to curtail the TSA's powers, slash its funding, or even dissolve it entirely and replace it with something they can control. So far, their distrust of each other, and intense media scrutiny, has kept the TSA alive. The TSA sees itself as the only sane player in trans-system politics, and has become an unappreciated (and often vilified) champion of human rights.<!--QuoteEnd--></td></tr></table><div class='postcolor'><!--QuoteEEnd-->
    <!--QuoteBegin--></div><table border='0' align='center' width='95%' cellpadding='3' cellspacing='1'><tr><td><b>QUOTE</b> </td></tr><tr><td id='QUOTE'><!--QuoteEBegin--><b>What are the Frontiersman?</b>
    With the failure of corporate and government forces to contain the spread of the Kharaa, the opinion (among those in power) was humanity should just quarantine the entire Ariadne Arm (the string of solar systems where the Kharaa were encountered). The TSA found this intolerable, both for the people trapped in the Arm, and for the future of human expansion (the economic blow of losing all those ships and bases could threaten the tenuous peace of the Charter). The TSA volunteered to mount a response to the Kharaa – effectively creating a new army, with a new mandate. The resolution passed, and the new force was called the Frontiersmen: "standing on the edge of the unknown, between all of humanity and whatever would threaten it." The Frontiersmen have clearance to travel anywhere, and board any craft. They have rapid-response outposts scattered throughout the Ariadne Arm, with teams of marines ready to deploy. The Frontiersmen initiative is a huge opportunity for the TSA. It's also a risk: if the Frontiersmen fail, on such a public and historic stage, the Ariadne Arm will be signed off as a loss and the trans-govs may have the excuse they've been looking for to "re-organize" TSA leadership – replacing the Admiral and her staff with corporate lackeys. If that happens, dark days are sure to follow.<!--QuoteEnd--></td></tr></table><div class='postcolor'><!--QuoteEEnd-->
    <!--QuoteBegin--></div><table border='0' align='center' width='95%' cellpadding='3' cellspacing='1'><tr><td><b>QUOTE</b> </td></tr><tr><td id='QUOTE'><!--QuoteEBegin--><b>Nano-Gridlock</b>
    As you will see in the Bacterium and Bacterial Gridlock sections, the Kharaa have a kind of network of their own – that is constantly struggling with ours on a microscopic level. Though they have no commander or leader, they can clearly receive and send information, coordinate their efforts to respond to threats, and organize assaults.

    The nano-battle between the bacterium and our nanotech creates what has been termed "nano-gridlock". It greatly reduces the effectiveness of the commander, in the following ways:

    <i>Blindness</i>
    The commander cannot see the Kharaa, or their hives or chambers, unless marines are nearby. Every Frontiersman has a defensive nano-grid, originally used to protect them against enemy biological and nanotech attacks. These screens clear away some of the gridlock from the local command network, allowing commanders to see enemy threats before troops on the ground can. Listen to your commander – it can save your life. See also motion tracking and sensor sweep for other methods of detecting the alien presence.

    <i>Build limits</i>
    The bacterium interferes with construction, making it difficult to create structures, or drop weapons. Bases provide "clean" zones, and some Frontiersmen towers – like the turret factory for instance, have boosted nano-signatures that resist meddling. Once built, many structures allow other structures and equipment to be created nearby. Ammo and medkits can be dropped anywhere – due to their simple design and some clever TSA hacking.<!--QuoteEnd--></td></tr></table><div class='postcolor'><!--QuoteEEnd-->
