Would You Be With Them?

<div class="IPBDescription">try to imaginize =)</div> Hey ya all =) I dunno if this is the right place to discuss this, if it is not it would be lovely to move it to the right place (maybe off topic).

Well let's try to imaginize (maybe only possible for SiFi lovers <!--emo&:D--><img src='http://www.unknownworlds.com/forums/html//emoticons/biggrin-fix.gif' border='0' style='vertical-align:middle' alt='biggrin-fix.gif' /><!--endemo-->) that we're living in the time we have in NS. Everything is completely different from the things we know today, exept some typicall human habits.

The question I asked me this morning is: "Would you join up the TSA Frontiersmen to fight the Kharaa?" And the next question should be: "why?" or "why not?"

I personally would join up because I'd see the galaxy and travel around alot. I'm not that kinda guy who likes to do service in the army, but I wanna become a cop and the TSA is in some case for me like a special Police. And last but not least I love adventures =)

comeon your turn <!--emo&;)--><img src='http://www.unknownworlds.com/forums/html//emoticons/wink-fix.gif' border='0' style='vertical-align:middle' alt='wink-fix.gif' /><!--endemo-->

    never. i would never join.

    Why?

Did you ever play a match where you did NOT die? Ever? And if you did, do you always never die? I know we all die in NS, and we all die more matches then matches where we do not die.

So what teaches us this? Rines in NS have a evry short life-expectancy. If you live 5 minutes without dying you are in luck, if you live 15 minutes without dying then you are either god, or the kharaa are crap.

Why would I join the TSA in reallife if that ment I would not make it through the day?

that's just like it is in the armys of our world. I think if NS would be real some things wouldn't be like it is in the game. The Frontiersmen are well trained so your life-expectancy is higher =)

well technically in NS a soldier never really dies permanently. Once a soldier is dead I think the backstory goes that he is somehow immediately reconstructed at some hidden medical bay nearby to the station, and then quickly teleported back into the action via the infantry portal.

That's so funny that this topic comes up today.

I dreamed last night that I was a Frontiersman and we got to try out all kinds of next gen armaments against the Kharra.

The sticky-trap was my favorite. And then the Zombie Nazi's came in and even if you hit them in the head, there was a little head inside the big one...

Hmm, if we look at those games, then you see pretty much death in NS, I don't want to be dead. Marines just fall like stones.
But somehow, marines preserve their life and respawn, I don't know how is this possible, several copies of you has been cloned and teleported there?
i still think i wouldn't join bechause i simply don't have the nerve in real life to be in all this gore and scariness. Even if the NS isn't so scary animore though.. But in real life, it WOULD.
  • ToothyToothy ir-regard-less Join Date: 2003-02-12 Member: 13447Members, Constellation
I was under the impression that marines died, and new fodder was teleported in from wherever using the IPs.
  • Swift_IdiotSwift_Idiot Join Date: 2003-01-05 Member: 11883Members
Yeah you sillies, read dur BACKSTORY.

IPs are miniature phasegates which transport fresh 'rines from the troop ship in orbit or near the space station. Dead marines are dead for ever, no meat-cloning or body-reconstitution in THIS story.

From the sound of things in the NS universe, F the TSA, I'm joining one of the megacorporations or massive trans-system governments as MIDLEVEL MANAGEMENT baby. I definately feel more like Burke than I do Hicks or Vasquez. And if I did somehow end up on a TSA mission as a "corporate advisor," I'd be the first one out of base with a welder trying to find a dead-end to lock myself into until the fighting is over. I'm the marine who welds himself into Upper Sewer and begs the commander to seal the other end with five comchairs. Not IN GAME, but IRL I mean. Sorry guys, I've never been a big fan of confrontation, especially when it's confronting scary xenoforms with teeth and claws. *Weld weld sweatbeads sweatbeads panic panic lunch*

    A funny thought

Join the TSA as a comm. Locate the hive. Order your rines to drop their weapons. Tell them to charge the hive

    Sure I'd join.

In Real life people will be scared of dieing and wont do stupid things that end up getting you both killed, such as running 10 meters ahead of the group or ramboing etc.

Plus i have survived 15 to 20 minute NS matchs without dieing once. (mostly luck i think though.)

Actually, if I joined the Frontiersmen irl, I would actually kinda want a turret-farmed base. Then there's a nice safe area where I can hide from the meany doggies with meh blanky.

    Let's be honest about this:

With the way the game is currently set up, you have high powered weaponry capable of shredding 4 skulks before they can even get within bite radius.

Now, let's add in the fact that the TSA are extremely well trained, no specialized military task force is never sloppy, nor has a large populace of idiots within it.

Combined that with the fact of the marine early game superiority. The easiest way to win would be a combination of armory upgrade rushing and armor 1, stroll into their hive and dominate.

So, yes, the Kharaa are super fast and highly intelligent (for creatures). That doesn't mean anything. Research MT, and their advantage of speed and stealth is gone.

In short, yes, I would join the TSA, but only as a commander.
  • Lt.RealnessLt.Realness Join Date: 2004-03-17 Member: 27379Members
as I can see the TSA wouldn't have problems with finding new commanders =)

I'd probably be hypnotised by some faster-then-light psi-force emitted by the super-hive to draw slow-witted lifeforms to the Kharaa motherplanet so they can be enslaved and tend eggs for the rest of their not dead but not quite alive existence.

    Hive with psi-force! --> ( ( ( <!--emo&::hive::--><img src='http://www.unknownworlds.com/forums/html//emoticons/hive5.gif' border='0' style='vertical-align:middle' alt='hive5.gif' /><!--endemo--> ) ) ) <!--emo&:0--><img src='http://www.unknownworlds.com/forums/html//emoticons/wow.gif' border='0' style='vertical-align:middle' alt='wow.gif' /><!--endemo-->
