Looks like this is the beginning of the end. It looks like no new llama-whipping versions will be released.

It's kind of sad, but I suppose that is was inevitable after they were bought by AOL.

    Ahhhh shazbut....

Oh well, Winamp still has a few more years left in it as a program at least, and I'm sure community support for it will continue long after.

Definately. Damned it be if they don't suddenly go "Oh, sorry, I accidently posted the URL on the main webpage instead of e-mailing it to you for the Source code, Mr. AOL. Too bad."- suddenly, Winamp gets 3 kajillion mods, and finally a official "accepted" team.

    Source code plzkthx?

That'd be great if they "accidentally" open sourced the thing. Then we could go back to the way winamp used to be.

I don't know why, but some people are doing it.
Well it's ok if you like it and want to support the poor man behind the tool.

To be honest, I've never liked Winamp. The interface is far from intuitive, and the fact that the latest version isn't backwards compatible with the playlists from previous versions is inexcusable.

I don't know where you got that from. I was using v2 up until a few weeks ago. I decided it was probably time to upgrade so I installed version 5 over the top and it worked like a charm.

The interface is nice and simple too, but who needs the interface when you can have it sitting in the system tray and control it with your keyboard.

Anything AOL buys is bound to die. I hope they die too.

Goodbye Winamp team. I never knew you, probably better that way. Lets hope you still have your towels.

    Kudos for a ref.

unless .mp3s die i don't see the reason to get sad that there will be no more winamp versions. it will still play your music, videos, whatever.

If winamp has been bought by AOL, then except embedded ads, spyware, adware. And then they'll bundle and tie it into their package and finally kill it.

meh, version 5 has the best of both worlds (version 2 and 3) so it isn't an earth shattering event for me. At least it's better then that POS we call Windows Media Player.

If you're looking for an alternative, I'd suggest <a href='http://www.deliplayer.com/' target='_blank'>deliplayer.</a> Though why it doesn't play midis is beyond me.

What needs to be improved about Winamp, anyway? Anything you can complain about is just a surface issue, and the lead developers don't really need to be around to fix bugs. Winamp 5 is more than sufficient, feature wise.

I would want to work on something else too.

Failed to see what's wrong with Realplayer.

But then again, my ears couldn't distinguish between cassette player, Cd player, or Mp3 player, or any soundcards.

It was pretty messed up when I got my hands on it. But I'm for guessing they ironed out all the bugs.
