Which Weapons Kill Mines Or Vents?

BridgerBridger Join Date: 2002-10-30 Member: 1761Members
i heard that the fade acid rocket can take out mines, but yesterday somebody was trying it and said it didn't work...

Also, what can we do to "unweld" a vent? which attacks can kill a "weld" and do we have to actually attack the welded area or just the vent itself?

The Acid Rocket can detonate mines, whoever told you otherwise should train aiming.

Welded vents can only be opened if the mappar has made them breakable (which they haven't in most cases).

The welds in ns_bast are made to be breakable, but I don't know if I've seen anyone actually do it in a long, long time. Granted, the health is set to 5000, but still. It would be a good test, since you know that they were intended to be breakable.

You can break them open after they have been welded?!?

    Thats nice to know, thx

I've actually had quite a bit of difficulty blowing up mines in 1.01. It worked fine in 1.00, but sometimes i just cant blow them up with acid rocket nowadays.

Interesting. Are their any alien weapons or abilites that can cut through an area a welding torch would be used on?

the gorge's spit (the first slot) takes out welded areas

It would make sense for the gorge to be able to brak a weld. I'll have to try it when I get back home in a couple days.

I have read that a direct hit in the groin (ouch) damages crouched marines. I have tested it and it proved too, I hope they fix the hit box in later versions.

I hardly ever see mines in the game. I usually request them a few times, they make me feel like I'm in Mission Impossible. You know with the laser room...and the...with..sgha...wfha...*walks off*

i recently read u can only destroy mines if they wall they are attatched to is very far apart from each other. i used fade's acid rocket today and it worked first shot.

This probably shouldn't go here, but anyways, I find using the mine as trip mines TOTALLY useles. A skulk can walk through one with minimal damage. On the other hand, land mines work VERY well. I even have the feeling some people didn't know that mines doubled as land mines... Anyways, I suggest using mines more often as land mines, much better results.

Land mines are really effective against fades/onos. The laser mines are better up high to knock off any speed-limit breaking lerks. The mines don't seem to detonate sometimes when an acid rocket is launched at them. People just don't seem to appreciate their power though. They're dirt cheap too...

    (artificially de-aging topic - don't mind me)

maybe they are better of being dished out later in the game when fade's and onos start showing themselves

laser mines are not effective against onos. I was able to just charge straight through them and they would detonate behind me doing 0 damage. I ran through about 10 in a hallway... no problem.

A Skulk with Leap and Carapace can take out mines and take little damage. I've you've got a D Tower to fall back to, you can slowly take out dozens.

I saw that too - mines were indestructable even by acid rocket or bile bomb. But it was tournament mode server with FF on, so maybe this is making difference.

    are u sure?

i've set off mines and killed marines unlucky enough to stand by one with my acid rocket. Its ironic how these mines are created to kill aliens....not be killed by one and most of the times, it wasn't even the intention to get frags, but just to set it off.
