Shawn of the dead, isn't really a horror, although it is a good movie. And dawn of the dead is much more action then horror...

Signs I have issues with calling 'good' on the basis of the laugable science involved, but I will concede that it is quite freeky.

Gothica falls under the quite freeky catagory too...

The ring, and mothman prophecies are both good movies in somewhat of thier own class, give you a good feeling that what you saw in the movie could acctually come out and get you alot more than most other horrors...

The Thing rocks lol! It isn't scary anymore, would have been like 20 years ago though.

Event Horizon IS the scariest film EVER. Sci-fi-horror ftw!

Everybody says that but I found it pretty meh. Sam Neil did a good job though.

    Ring
    Ring 2
    Dark Water
    Ju-On
    Event Horizon
    Hellraiser
    The Shining
House On Haunted Hill (Until the flying binbag)
    The Thing

Hmm, dunno what else to recommend. Horror movies, on the whole, tend to leave me laughing most of the time, these are just the few which i thought were genuinely good movies.

Most of the good ones have already been said.

However I would like to add Darkness Falls, I saw it recently and was impressed by it. The creature in it is quite scary.

Battle Royale.. not the best movie ever but it's pretty disturbing to watch kids kill each other in rather messy ways..

Ju-On:The Grudge genuinely creeped me out which is the first film to do so in a long while the face of the woman in it freaks me out no end.

Zombie Flesh Eaters though not scary in these modern times is a good gorefest as in anything else by Lucio wozzizname.

Evil Dead trilogy, Braindead, Bad Taste, Re-Animator and all Romero's stuff are damn awesome as well.
