Questions As Commander

<div class="IPBDescription">I am a newb co and have a few.</div> Ok, So I am a new commander.

The few things I have difficulty with (right now) is

1 - Jumping to players Not the guy screaming for ammo/health. but the guy on the chat screen that wants a hmg. Is there a hotkey to jump between players so I can keep up on them?

2 - keeping everything going . I hope this will just take practice, but you guys are talking about building a second base, giving waypoints to soldiers, all this stuff. is there ANY hotkeys? like one for health, or ammo? I think the game would be MUCH better if I could hit the h key and it would select a health pack.

3 - I dont get flashing stuff on my hud. I have to Space between everything going on. and then I lose track of stuff. why?

any other hints (other than those already posted) would be great.

Thanks

Well you cant jump to guys asking for HMG or other guys ... just drop the gun somewhere in spawn, if he isnt in spawn try to remember wheres the other armory and drop it there

Yes u can hotkey them ... go in NS main > config > controls
oh yea and practice practice practice !

Use the bots (u'll find them pinned in general discussion) for marines to practice building ... also when a lone res tower is getting attacked by a skulk drop a cheap building near it mabe u can trap him <!--emo&:D--><img src='http://www.unknownworlds.com/forums/html/emoticons/biggrin.gif' border='0' valign='absmiddle' alt='biggrin.gif'><!--endemo-->

    yah I know its lame but I only tryed that once as a joke <!--emo&:p--><img src='http://www.unknownworlds.com/forums/html/emoticons/tounge.gif' border='0' valign='absmiddle' alt='tounge.gif'><!--endemo--> 20 secs later I saw the alien guy use 'kill' ROFL <!--emo&:p--><img src='http://www.unknownworlds.com/forums/html/emoticons/tounge.gif' border='0' valign='absmiddle' alt='tounge.gif'><!--endemo-->

1 - I tend to use a lot of Phase Gates (teleporters). I upgrade the armory in my main base, and tell my troops if they want heavy weapons or armor, they'll be there. It only takes em a second to teleport over there and back, so it's really not an inconvenience.

2 - You can set your hotkeys, but remember you have to be in the 'equip' menu or they won't work. So instead of just pressing A for ammo, you have to press E (for equip menu), then A.

3 - Stuff doesn't flash on the HUD when it's under attack - you just have to jump there. Hopefully, they'll make something on the minimap flash in a later patch, but for now, you'll just have to get used to it.

If you want to be a good commander, you have to learn the maps well, and get a microphone. <!--emo&:)--><img src='http://www.unknownworlds.com/forums/html/emoticons/smile.gif' border='0' valign='absmiddle' alt='smile.gif'><!--endemo-->

You'll also have to get used to people not doing anything you ask them to do. <!--emo&???--><img src='http://www.unknownworlds.com/forums/html/emoticons/confused.gif' border='0' valign='absmiddle' alt='confused.gif'><!--endemo--> I've gotten used to it, but it **obscenity** me off when I was commanding in my first few games. I've probably commanded over 30 or 40 games now, and won most of them. But that was only after yelling at guys to go to their waypoints repeatedly. <!--emo&:p--><img src='http://www.unknownworlds.com/forums/html/emoticons/tounge.gif' border='0' valign='absmiddle' alt='tounge.gif'><!--endemo-->

First...remind your marines they need to tell you what and where they need something. If it's an ingame voice...like commander, I need ammo. Hit the space bar and it will jump you there. Next, you can only drop certain things in the green radius the buildings send out. So, HMG's, nade launchers, etc. They can only be dropped around an upgraded armory. Just remind your marines to head back to the spawn and then have them remind you of it and drop it on top of them.

You can bind hot keys if you want but remember you have to be in the menus, as said before.

You need to figure out your own strategys...I recommend playing as a marine for a few more games in some other servers, get a feel for how others play it. Learn the maps and make sure you have a mic. Those two are critical. Listen to your marines if they have some suggestions for you...then just decide if you really need it...with where you are in control of the map, resources, etc. Some marines have good ideas you should listen to...others are just clueless. Make up your own mind...get your own strategy...you'll learn as you play more. Above all...Learn the maps...Make sure you have a mic...after that, pratice...pratice...pratice.

    Thanks guys

I do use voice, and I just read about the bug that seems to be making me unintelligable.

I am hoping that the minimap flash will happen sometime soon. I thought I read it in the docs? or a message board.

How are we ever gonna train these marines that

1 - a HMG only happens once we have upgraded armory

2 - You cant get ammo from an armory that is upgrading

3 - it costs 25.. so dont be bitchin at me for HMG if you see 3 rps.

    4 - Heavy Armour also costs 25.

    Grrr. Smacktards.

Bah, I've commanded plenty of games to victory and I don't have a mic. You just have to learn how to type <i>really</i> quickly.

If theres a key to open the door, it can be opened by commander. Just click on the key panel.
