Bad Performance In Hammer Views

When I open a not very detailed map which runs fine on my old computer (P4 1.4 Ghz, 256 mb ram and 64 mb gfx) on my new computer (AMD Athlon64 3500+, 1024 mb Corsair 3200XL, 128 mb gfx), the performance in the four views of Hammer is really slow. I mean like 1-5 fps. It doesn't matter how much I zoom in in the 2d-views. Haven't found anything about this on the forums so if anybody could please help, I would be very happy.

Thanks in advance.

Do you have the latest directx and drivers for your new computer? If not dl them from microsoft.com and your graphics card manufacturer's website.

I have the latest directX but not the latest gfx-drivers. The thing is, I'm waiting for a Sapphire X800 XT PE graphics card and the current card I'm using is some budget thing from nVIDIA. I'm just using some standard drivers from Microsoft. I don't want to have old nVIDIA drivers on my comp when installing the ATI ones. From what I've heard, deleting such drivers to 100% is difficult.

But do you really think that's the problem? It works just fine playing NS with the graphics card...

Drivers could very well be the problem.

If you get Driver Cleaner, then you don't have to worry about Nvidia stuff being left on your PC when you put in the Radeon.

Out of interest do you have HL running in the background while working in VHE, as this can slow it down alot.

Okay, I'll consider giving it a try. Thanks for the info.

Hmm, good thought, but no, I don't have HL running in the background.

Try increasing your paging file... I know that RAM plays a big role in everything, especially without a good memory cache on the graphics card <!--emo&:)--><img src='http://www.unknownworlds.com/forums/html//emoticons/smile-fix.gif' border='0' style='vertical-align:middle' alt='smile-fix.gif' /><!--endemo-->

Thanks for the advice, but I already got it to work by installing the proper video card drivers <!--emo&:)--><img src='http://www.unknownworlds.com/forums/html//emoticons/smile-fix.gif' border='0' style='vertical-align:middle' alt='smile-fix.gif' /><!--endemo--> Working on the ms for ns_deepblue right now...
