erm.. since it doesn't glow, it sort of looks... erm...

But it is glowing! I'm just having trouble getting something that looks like light/energy, but stays concentrated looking. Maybe I need a darker setting.

Since I think you're using Cinema 4D XL, there are two options to make it glow.

If you're using a cylinder with a green color for the saber, then you'll have to check the "glow" option in the material's properties. Set the inner strength to 100% and outer to 200% or more. Set the distance to 20m and tweak it to your needs.

If you're using a light in shape of a tube, then all you have to do is set the inner and outer radius. Because if that's a light, it seems like the inner radius is just as big as the outer right now, hence, full-bright saber...

Updated - Better lighting, better floor, better blade, better shadows, better position.

You should make it glow more... Like this.

EDIT: Oh and try soft shadows. Maybe they'll give a nicer effect here.

I based my lightsabre off of the ones seen in the original three movies. They looked a lot like a solid blade with a gentle glow, instead of a fuzzy stick of light. Like this:

Yes, they're bright, but also have a 'bigger', more intensive glow. Also, your saber is too wide. Doesn't fit the hilt.

EDIT: The picture below is something I did a long time ago. Terrible compression, but that's how I imagine the blade to look like...

The blade needs to be much thinner. Right now it either looks like the toy version or one of those things people use to guide planes with.

If you take a look at that picture you posted, look how thin the blades are. Other than that, nice work. <!--emo&:)--><img src='http://www.unknownworlds.com/forums/html//emoticons/smile-fix.gif' border='0' style='vertical-align:middle' alt='smile-fix.gif' /><!--endemo-->

The centre of the blade is white with a coloured glow.

Lightsaber + blade is more than a meter long. Check that pic with Vader: he's two meters tall. Lightsabers are LONG.
