Any servers up yet? <!--emo&???--><img src='http://www.unknownworlds.com/forums/html//emoticons/confused-fix.gif' border='0' style='vertical-align:middle' alt='confused-fix.gif' /><!--endemo-->
Right guys sorry for the late reply but ive been working loads <!--emo&:(--><img src='http://www.unknownworlds.com/forums/html//emoticons/sad-fix.gif' border='0' style='vertical-align:middle' alt='sad-fix.gif' /><!--endemo-->
I have found the problem. Basically ns 1.04 needs to use the ns folder. How some people claimed to have got ns 1.04 working using a ns104 fodler i cant work out as it just doesnt work. This is my fault for rushing this out instead of testing it thoroughly but, this was only done cause so many people wanted it.
<b>README First</b> Make sure you have folder setup of half-life/ns and half-life/ns104 Delete fmod.dll 1fmod.dll and 2mod.dll if they exist
Extract this to your steamapps/email/half-life folder
You may delete the old.bat and new.bat as these are no longer needed.
Now to run ns 1.04 run switch.abt this will rename your current ns folder to nsbackup and rename to ns104 fodler to ns folder as wella s changing fmods around. You may then play ns104 immediately (no need to restart steam). To go back to the latest ns run switch.bat again and it will rename ns to ns104 and nsbackup back to ns as well as changing fmod versions.
I am currently updating my installer/zip to fix this. But you may use the above (small) file to save having to reupdate.
To clarify. old and new.bat are no longer needed and SHOULD NOT BE USED. Switch.bat performs the same by checking for the existence of a certain file in the ns folder (file relating to paralyse - so unless paralyse is ever readded to ns this will always work)
Original Installers have been updated and links are per the first post. The only difference is the removal of old and new.bat being replaced with switch.bat which does the same and more.
If you do not wish to re-dl these files then simply download <a href='http://www.brywright.co.uk/downloads/files/index.php?dir=natural-selection/install/old_versions/&file=1.04_fix.zip' target='_blank'>1.04 fix file</a> extracting to the half-life folder and making sure u have a ns and ns104 folder in there.
Anyone have a working link to the fix? [EDIT] Never mind - it's working now. <!--emo&:)--><img src='http://www.unknownworlds.com/forums/html//emoticons/smile-fix.gif' border='0' style='vertical-align:middle' alt='smile-fix.gif' /><!--endemo-->

I think there's a reason why NS 1.04 is an antiquated and hopefully forgotten version: it's not nearly as optimized as the version of the game we have now a days.

Basicly.. this was my problem:
Before B5 was out I installed 1.04, which uses the HL/NS folder. Then B5 came, and it put all its files in the HL/NS folder ALSO, now this really isn't a problem until now because the SWITCH.BAT identifies the 1.04 folder by the 1.04 only files that are in it... But those files are in both folders.
So I got the same errors you're getting, it found DUPLICATE files, because you basicly have a 1.04 folder and a 1.04 AND NS folder.
How to fix? Delete all 1.04 relevant files from the NS folder.. OR (easier) backup all your important files from your NS folder (models, maps, screenshots, config). Delete the NS folder, and reinstall B5, that SHOULD fix it (it worked for me).
and if that still doesnt fix it come on irc quakenet #bryns and pm Bry and if im about ill gudie you through it.
And yea that bug that me adn darlenlighter found was actually a very weird one. It never occured to be when making the installer that people might have ns 1.04 and beta5 files in the same folder. Although this is actually quite obvious it was a weird bug to track down

Beta5 or Beta4a both don't work for me <!--emo&:(--><img src='http://www.unknownworlds.com/forums/html//emoticons/sad-fix.gif' border='0' style='vertical-align:middle' alt='sad-fix.gif' /><!--endemo--> .
1.04 does, but I feel like playing some good old beta 5 right now...
The batch file is only there for convinience. Just look in it, see what it does and do it manually if it doesn't work and you are too lazy to fix it.(to fix it remove/rename the paralysisgun.sc in the events folder of nsbeta5).
Don't be discouraged if Brys server doesn't show when refreshing the server list(even if you untick all the filters and make sure you're browsing servers and not favorites), just copy the IP in the first post qith ctrl + c and open up ns1.04, add the ip to favorite servers or connect directly with connect <IP> in the console.
