    But thats with an Nvidia card ATI sucks for NS! <!--QuoteEnd--></td></tr></table><div class='postcolor'><!--QuoteEEnd-->
    Well, I've got an AX800XT OC'ed and I got constant 100FPS all the time 1600x1200 6xAA 16xaf... but that's pretty much the best video card on the market right now. <!--QuoteEnd--> </td></tr></table><div class='postcolor'> <!--QuoteEEnd-->
    Yeah but you would hope such an expensive card would give you good performance on a 5 year old engine.

    I used to have a 9800pro which gave me crap performance in NS... It nearly ran doom3 better..

    I dont think there is a computer out there today that will run NS at a constant 100 FPS all the time. When there's a bunch of players/buildings, and tons of things going on even the best computers will drop to ~60...

    I refuse to turn off v-sync! Why should I need more FPS than my monitor can display? I don't see why you people need it. If your monitor is at 60Hz then you will only be able to get 60 FPS, even if it says 500.

    But, yeah the HL engine is weird. I can run with 6xAA and 16xAF and I get no difference in FPS. In a large base it always goes down to 45, or 42.5. I don't know why, but my computer likes 42.5. My average in D3 was 42.5, and it's the same with a bunch of other games. Oh well.

    The reason you get 42.5 fps all the time is because of vsync. Vsync will drop your fps in intervals of 1/2, 1/3, 1/4, etc of your refreshrate. So, if your system can't put out 85 fps with vsync on, it will automatically drop it to 42.5 (1/2 of 85). To solve this, you can try turning triple buffering on. (Tripple Buffering adds a third buffer in order to decrease the amount of frames lost when a frame drop occurs.) However, Triple Buffering has been known to cause input lag. So, if you already have a laggy mouse, I strongly suggest that you lower your in game resolution, AA, AF, or turn off vsync instead of enabling triple buffering to increase your framerate. (BTW Triple Buffering is only good if vsync is on.)

    Of course, if you turn vsync off you run the risk of "tearing" when you play which can be distracting.

    Mine nearly does it in 1600x1200 i've never seen it under 85fps.... so at 1024x768 it shouldn't have to many issues..

    AMD 64 3400+

    GeForce 4 mx 440, 800x600.

    Solid 30 FPS, drops to 10-20 in certain maps.

    I really doubt that you get 85+ FPS in a big marine base or with 10-15 players on your screen <!--emo&:)--><img src='http://www.unknownworlds.com/forums/html//emoticons/smile-fix.gif' border='0' style='vertical-align:middle' alt='smile-fix.gif' /><!--endemo-->

    With that rig he certainly could.... (except for the fact he has an Nvidiot card XD)

    Well I have a system almost the same as his (slightly worse cpu, slightly better vid card) and I run at 800x600 and I can't get 100 fps constant.... I get 13000 in 3dmark03 and I drop to 50 fps at times (lots of structures/players on screen).

    Maybe my computer just can't run NS or something <!--emo&:)--><img src='http://www.unknownworlds.com/forums/html//emoticons/smile-fix.gif' border='0' style='vertical-align:middle' alt='smile-fix.gif' /><!--endemo-->

    Do you have an ATI card Nadagast??? Because thoes seriously suck for any OpenGl based applications.. especially the older ones...

    I only get 1150 in 3dmark03 and 4500 in 05 but ns runs really really well not matter what!

    Nvidia is hands down better in OpenGL thats why i got rid of my 9800pro for one as i use my computer for things other then games.

    ok this hasnt been mentioned so far:

    The reason why you might be getting this problem is because of steam using an outdated openGL driver.

    Here is the way to fix it:
    - Go to the Windows\System32 directory and look for your opengl32.dll

    If you're using a nvidia card the nvoglnt.dll is the right one.
    For Ati cards it's the atioglxx.dll.
    And for the rest the opengl32.dll.

    - copy that file to your ..\SteamApps\your@email.com\half-life\gldrv directory.

    - open the drvmap.txt in that directory and change the text to the following:

    gldrv/atioglxx.dll Default
    gldrv/3dfxgl.dll 3Dfx Mini Driver

    has helped for many i know with newer ati and nvidia cards. Good Luck!

    Wow, thanks! Now I know it's not my computer being weird. I guess I'll just have to live with it then because I can't stand the tearing that occurs when I trun off vsync. I'll try it with triple buffering and see if it gets better. Thanks!

    Feel <i>lucky</i> you get 50-60 frames a second. <!--emo&:(--><img src='http://www.unknownworlds.com/forums/html//emoticons/sad-fix.gif' border='0' style='vertical-align:middle' alt='sad-fix.gif' /><!--endemo-->
