Why is NS not on steam yet?

Can you finally shift NS to steam instead of wasting time <!--emo&:)--><img src='http://www.unknownworlds.com/forums/html//emoticons/smile-fix.gif' border='0' style='vertical-align:middle' alt='smile-fix.gif' /><!--endemo-->

You can patch the game when needed via steam and it will help bring players to the community.

The next release being on Steam would be a wise decision I imagine, please consider it.

Thanks

Let me just say, the hold up isn't on our side..

Valve is a 'little' busy at the moment..

a little off topic but i found this amusing

a few days ago a guy got on a server im a reg on, he was completely new, first time playing. didnt know how to get ammo, as he stood next to the armory. i tried to help him learn the game, but he just kept insisting on how he could "pwn me in cs" he then proceeded to play more horirbly than anyone i couldve imagined, even for their first time playing. youd think that they were an amputee or something trying to use a mouse with their nub.

Sarcastic? Valve is probably INCREDIBLY busy with the release of HL2 coming up in a very short amount of time. But also, I definitely think that adding ns to the my games menu would be very awesome, and we'll have our training map by that time... <!--emo&:)--><img src='http://www.unknownworlds.com/forums/html//emoticons/smile-fix.gif' border='0' style='vertical-align:middle' alt='smile-fix.gif' /><!--endemo-->

yea ive heard quite a bit of that "i could pwn your butt in cs" more stupid than amusing to me. all these cs players dont even want to learn how to play. they seem to want instant action and easy to learn games. quite sad imo. "omg this game is lame im leaving, lets go play cs john, this game is retarded."

Once NS was released I told myself I would never touch CS ever again. Yeah I still play in mainly CS:S just because its new. But I still prefer NS over 95% of the games I have played. Release was so cool, soooo many hours of NS so little time.

I hate CS, because everyone uses an ultra low sensitivity, sits in one spot, and waits for you to run into their crosshair. Where's the skill in that? lol
    (I still play though! :\)

This has been planned for a long time. The planning was done well over a year and a half ago.

The problem is that it requires a lot of cooperation with VALVe. As you can imagine, with HL2 on the horizon they have not really had time to work on this with us (nor have we had time or inclination to press them - we know the pressures they are under coming up to release.)

It is not simply a matter of "putting NS on steam". We send VALVe a build, they build the game cache and put it on STEAM but then whenever we wish to update we have to send them any patches and wait for them to again distrubute it.

As you can imagine, handing control over our release schedule to a third party is not simply not acceptable to us.

We are waiting for them to provide us with the means to publish these things (at least updates, even if they themselves do the initial cache build) over STEAM ourselves (something I believe should be in there anyway if they want STEAM to be a broad "distribution" technology as they claim).

Without the ability to publish our own updates to STEAM, in fact it makes more sense for us to continue to distribute our work as an installer/zip because we then control the release schedule and are not subject to a third parties' availability.

    joev.

[and since it looks like this is just skewing way off topic anyway, I'm closing this thread here - We really need an updated FAQ. Volunteers? Contact Zunni!]
