I was in a pinch for getting arrows, until I finally decided to try a cross-bow. I really only seen one or two other people using crossbows. Since then random people have dropped me about 4000 bolts total. <!--emo&:D--><img src='http://www.unknownworlds.com/forums/html//emoticons/biggrin-fix.gif' border='0' style='vertical-align:middle' alt='biggrin-fix.gif' /><!--endemo-->
sawce... one thing I've noticed that kinda bothers me... one guy I saw firing faster with a crossbow than I can fire with my bow and also gets the increased damage that a crossbow gets... that annoys me...
Also, are there more crossbows than the starting one? I've only seen one.
If it turns out to be a better option I might switch.
Currently I've noticed really no difference in speed, and a fair increase in damage. Though when I was browsing the normal bows in the shop, it showed the higher level ones shoot faster than crossbows, but I won't be there for quite some time. The main benefit in my opinion is the abundance of bolts.
And no, the only crossbow I've seen so far (the one I'm using) is the starting one (req level 12).
I'm level 13 now, and leveling is really boring. <!--emo&???--><img src='http://www.unknownworlds.com/forums/html//emoticons/confused-fix.gif' border='0' style='vertical-align:middle' alt='confused-fix.gif' /><!--endemo-->
I can't really handle anything higher than 1 or 2 pigs, or a group of those slime things without risking death... so I'm hanging out in the first part of Victoria Road, where about 4 slime spawn (right underneath a huge group of those pigs), getting decent experience and there's a safe spot to go afk and regen at.
Should I be saving any particular items? I've gotten a little more conservative to selling random items ever since I did that quest on Maple Island (albeit the fairly worthless quest...) for 10 mushroom tops and 30 snail shells. I sold everything, then saw the quest so I wasted time killing that stuff again. <!--emo&:(--><img src='http://www.unknownworlds.com/forums/html//emoticons/sad-fix.gif' border='0' style='vertical-align:middle' alt='sad-fix.gif' /><!--endemo-->
@sawce: save leathers, sticks/firewood, ores, and the novelty items (cards, omok pieces/tables, etc)
i think the slow level grind is so that their artists and level designers can be lazy.
seriously, the next time i see a freaking snail i'm going to go nuts.
things that could be implemented better:
crafted items take too much work to get, and aren't worth what you put in.
drop rates are either too low or item requirements too high, and items that are completely in the wrong level bracket drop on monsters (I got a level 35 hat from a mushroom)
leveling is way too slow to make the benefits worth it, or conversely the character doesn't gain enough power per level. I want to see my damage go up, dammit, not go from 10-100 to 12-105.
resting takes too long.
quest rewards are not anything to get excited about.
player-based economy is kind of...nonexistent. i suppose that will be better once more people start playing it, but it's already supar laggeh at times.
mobs don't scale up in terms of rewards fast enough, so you end up having to kill low level monsters to do anything in a reasonable* amount of time.
<span style='font-size:6pt;line-height:100%'>*completely unreasonable, but the best you can do given the circumstances</span>
Level grind is extremely boring. That's why I blather on and on in game. Thing is, I like group missions and such, like they had in Talesweaver. I mean, they had bosses and minibosses that you fought to complete your character's story. And you can go in with a bunch of friends and start fighting those guys like crazy. It was SO much fun.
God when the TW english beta comes out I am SO there.

My complaints so far are pretty much identical to Wheeee's.
Experience is way too slow. Maybe I'm in the 'experience doldrums' that every single MMORPG I've ever played has suffered, but it's awful.
The regeneration needs changed. IMO rather than timing after your last move it should be timed after the last time you took damage, or at least do a percentage of your total health.
Monster variety... Even if it's the same exact monster a little different look would be nice...
The thing I absolutely love about it is the F2 face. My god it's as close to "^_^" in that game as you could get.
Well, my mage (JHunz2) is level 25. If anyone happens to have 1 Garnet ore or any amount of topaz, I'd be willing to buy them, or accept donations if you're a kind soul like Haisho.
The 29th is the starting of the <a href='http://www.guildwars.com/preview/default.html' target='_blank'>WORLD PREVIEW EVENT</a>...
Anyways.. Yeah, Maple Story is great for me now. I tried a melee class first. Man did it really not appeal to me. But yeah, after playing as a Magician. This game is addictive.
I'm so after Talesweaver... I want the english version and I want it now @.@ Everything I've heard of it makes it sound like it blows most stuff away and I've been aching to try it since I heard about it 2 years ago =s
As for maple... I kinda got bored when I was thief often feeling like I didn't have much direction and fighting with melee can get extremely frustrating thanks in part to the lag and it really doesn't have a worthwhile advantage over most ranged types. If you're going thieves I'd definitely recommend focussing on star throwing... you'll level faster and trying to make the higher claws is at least more interesting than just buying the next dagger in the shop only to have an orange mushroom lag-jump through your attack =P
If you are melee the way to do it without getting hit is either use long-ranged weaps like polearms/poleaxes or leap over the badguy's head and smack him in the rear. Waiting till the last second to strike works on slower badguys but the speedy orange mushrooms and some of the stuff later will just go right through your attack thanks to lag =/
I've kept my thief Jemma but I'm now playing my magician aiming for cleric: Gemma ^^
As soon as you can tackle them easily I recommend killing orange mushies... they're great xp for what they are =3
I tried GW in the E3 open event but I was kinda nonplussed. If you liked Diablo you'll love GW but it's not really my thing from what I could tell... silly auto-attack =/
I swear your attacks of equal level do three times the damage as my crossbow. <!--emo&:(--><img src='http://www.unknownworlds.com/forums/html//emoticons/sad-fix.gif' border='0' style='vertical-align:middle' alt='sad-fix.gif' /><!--endemo-->

Um... Has anybody here run into those monkeys yet by Ellinia?
Their melee attack did 92 damage to me, and their ranged attack (yes, this is the first thing that did ranged attacks on me), which consists of the monkey eating a banana and throwing the peel at you, hit me for 125. I tried shooting it with some bolts before it completely pwnd me, and all of them missed (I have 68 dexterity...).
Here's a screenshot, if anybody wants to try to pwn them I can give you directions but they're surrounded by all sorts of other hard monsters and... ow <!--emo&:(--><img src='http://www.unknownworlds.com/forums/html//emoticons/sad-fix.gif' border='0' style='vertical-align:middle' alt='sad-fix.gif' /><!--endemo-->
Monkeys=Lupins. Rowen mentions "Zombie Lupins", and those are simply undead of that kind. I understand they are about twice as strong. Ouch. Stay away from teh mankeys!
(if anyone needs an ore, contact me, I have at least one of a kind) (oh and im rich again, after selling the piettra skirt I found for 42k)
aww....i expected The zombie lupins to be an undead Lupin, where a lupin is this: <img src='http://www.carla-bayle.com/cartes/fleurs/lupins.jpg' border='0' alt='user posted image' />

Those little monkeys are lvl 37-40. So guess what, don't try to fight them ^_^ All people less than lvl 20 should train in the Henesys hunting ground (left of town). Yes it may get boring to kill the same kind of monsters time after time, but try to read some quests in the webpage and getting all the requierements (even if you cannot access it yet due to lvl restrictions) and you'll get distracted for a while.

So yeah, the situation has stabilized with a net income of 0 xp per hour in my approximation of powerleveling.
Gross income is like 600xp and Gross deficit is 600xp. I am hating this. I need to find better monsters.
