My Combat Guide

schmau
This is assuming you are on a 10 level server.
Aliens:
Superskulk - slot3, focus, celerity, carapace, adrenaline, regeneration, save one or two ability just in case you need to gorge or lerk
Lerk - focus, celerity, carapace, adrenaline, slot3, regeneration
Fade - carapace, celerity, focus, regeneration, slot3
Onos - carapace, celerity, focus, redemption

Ideally you want to save until level 4 then go straight to fade. Fighting marines with lmgs as a fade usually tips the balance of the game heavily into alien favor. If marines are sticking together really well, or you make a few too many poorly timed attacks and the marines have too many levels get leap and focus and save for fade later.
Never rush to lerk or onos, they are just too weak without a few upgrades. The ability set listed above allows you to adjust to enemy tactics (with the exception of onos, you can get all abilities listed and still use any class effectively).

I see a lot of people get silence and cloaking. While you may be able to ambush the marines early in the game, in the long run both these abilities are useless. A fade or onos can use brute force over surprise.

Marines:
Rush to the first open choke point and wait until your group of marines has killed a few skulks or is ready to advance. Depending on if you got bit or not on your way to level 2, get damage 1 or resupply. Follow with shotgun. If you have managed to push to the hive/respawn room and are asserting control over the alien team, consider getting hmg, then spawn killing until reinforcements arrive. Get damage 2, damage 3, then armor 1 and armor 2. I like to save a point for a gl after I've emptied myhmg clip and the hive is weak. If done successfully, the rest of your team can help you dominate and end the game right there. If you die, or fades appear, you'll need a jetpack. Get any combination of armor 1, resupply, and armor2. Save the next 2 points for jp. Don't worry about only having a damage 1 shotgun all this time, it's powerful enough. Your last 2 upgrades should be damage 2 and 3, or possibly hmg or gl, depending on what the rest of your team equips themselves with. Shotgun is the best multi purpose gun, it does more damage vs hive than hmg, is really good for taking down skulks quickly, and can tear through higher lifeforms well. Grenade launcher is ok for spamming and killing random skulks, and great for hurting the hive. Each L3 grenade does ~350 damage to the hive. HMG is great for taking down any alien, but you need someone on your team to have shotguns or gls for taking down the hive.

As I always say, theres only one rule in combat you gotta remember..

Do NOT die. Its that easy.

Leap, fade, focus, carapace, regen, adrenaline

That's my route of choice. Option of early onos with celerity if it's going well and the map suits.

well you'll never figure out my combat style because it changes everytime i play if you keep doing the same thing people will learn your patterns and find a way to beat it thats why my methods are complete random and apart from the fact i DO suck at the game means i will die but not from the fact that you all leanred a way around my gaming plan!

Ice-Phoenix I see where you are coming from, but I don't just use my method because I find it to be one of the paths of least resistance, I use it because it gives me good practice at being a 2 hive skulk and fading. These skills are vital to be a good alien player.

    Redempt onos?

Onos + Regen, Carapase, Celerity, Scent of fear + slot3 is what i personally go for :x

Carapace is pretty useless as an onos in combat due to the fact that it's bugged atm :x

I think it's good to change your strategy once in awhile for gameplay freshness, but I think it's simply better to work within strategies that you are best with, which doesn't have to be a single strategy.

I think it takes more than one person on a team to make a strategy unpredictible in NS/CO. I'm sure the Marine team won't be worried about a Fade/Skulk/Onos that constantly changes his/her strategy, but several Bile-bombing gorges filled with upgrades in CO? I don't know of a whole team of Bile-bombing gorges works well, but it looks good on paper so it should be fun to try, right?

You gonna elaborate or just make little smilies :/

Anyhow lets see.. the best fade upgrade path:

Cara, focus. These two upgrades alone make you a monster.

    Then you follow this path:

celerity, regen, adren. However, you get don't have to get adren last, I just get adren when they start to get jetpacks.

Isn't it something like the onos has a lot of armour left over when it's dead?
  • NGENGE Join Date: 2003-11-10 Member: 22443Members
Yeah, but with regen it usually doesn't, and that armor still makes you absorb boatloads of damage
  • TmHTmH Join Date: 2004-10-05 Member: 32096Members, Constellation
I normally take cele first, so I can kill better as a skulk, then go fade, get focus-cara-regen-meta. I dont think fades need adren, I'd rather have meta, so I can put some more pressure on the rines.

Silence FTW. I was once accused of using a no-sound hack by a new player. XD

IMO you should get leap and every upgrade besides Redemption/Cloak as a super skulk. Yeah, it has too much armor, so that if it is a hive 1 onos (which is the same as an onos in combat), so it'll have about 150 armor left over when it dies (presuming you don't regen). It's a little useless by itself. :x

I agree, SoF is very important, you can kill rines a lot quicker that way. Remption is useless most of the time, because you're dead before it kicks in anyway, and cloak... well... 1 scanner and it's useless, plus it's way to slow for me. Silence is good too, but most of the time you dont need it on pubs, because no one listens to sound anyway .
