[rant]
Ok. I'm a newbie. Everyone here, save for the people who actually worked on NS, is. This is just fine, we were all newbies once on some other mod. This is normal. Most everyone who posts regularly here can also speel rael gud. This is excellent. HOWEVER:

I've seen people with excellent spelling and grammar on these forums post strategies involving "turrents". WTF is a turrent? Is it some b-stard child of turret and entity? Where did that misspelling come from? It is spelled T-U-R-R-E-T, turret. Again, the proper spelling: turret. Try it yourself. Resist that apparently OVERPOWERING urge to press the N key, and get it right. If you can't spell turret properly, abbreviate it to "SG" or replace with "sentry" or "sentry gun". Gragh.
[/rant] I'm gonna go kill something slimy now. Maybe a lawyer.

Personally, I read so fast I don't even notice people spell words wrong, like I usually do. One word like that is no needed to get in killing mode for, unless you release that anger in a good game of NS, that is allowed

I always see people spell weird "wierd" on this forum, but I've always kept my mouth shut in fear that maybe it was an inside joke like "pwned" or something. Just thought I'd share that.

Kiz, you need to realize how utterly useless and pointless it was to make this thread. Even if many were to read it, they would not care, and it would not help misspelling you see anyways. People make typos, or slightly mis spell things. What does it matter?! Sometimes there just isn't time, or there is too much pressure for people to type carefully and go through and check for mistakes.

Having mic is the answer to all the problems related with typing, as it can and will help you better communicate with your team to work together and get things done.

The thing is, it isn't a typo... people are using "turrent" in their day-to-day forum posts - not just once, but over and over. Not only that, but look at your keyboard, see where the N is? How in the heck do you misspell "turret" when the character in question is on the *other side of the keyboard*?

I'd be interested in the origin of this misspelling (just for kicks) - because it's infecting people at an alarming rate...

Maybe people are just more use to spelling "current" and sometimes forget what they are spelling midword.

Bad spelling usually doesn't bother me - especially when in-game - I realise that 9 times out of 10 you're in a hurry or something. Typos too, they're fine, they happen - heck people stutter IRL and no-one chews 'em out.

But "turrents"... heck people even *say* "turrent" over voice. This monster has to be stopped!

rant rant rant rant rant. rant rant.

women are evil. i mean it. they are manipulative, spiteful, jealous and insensitive. if you are female and are not all or any of these things, call me. if you are thinking about calling me don't. you are obviously vain.

why is it that friends are never there when you need them, and around all the time when you don't?
why are your enemies always there when you need friends? or do enemies just make better friends sometimes?

why do people always assume that the most ridiculous thing is the truest?
why is it that the truth dies so easily, but lies are near immortal?

why do parents automatically assume their offspring is stupid? is this genetic? or is it because they realise how stupid they were when they were young and assume you are the same? why do parents always transpose their mistakes when they were young onto you? is this genetic? why are grandparents so much easier to get on with than parents? is this genetic? is someone researching all this?

how do morons breed so quickly? why is common sense so rare? why are birds always so attracted to MY CAR?

    more later.

(wow, and not one **obscenity** obscenity)

    Anyoen liek teh caek?

Most misspelled stuff around here is from haste and sloppiness. A lot of us are foreigners too, and sometimes we know the sound of the word, but not the wordyness of the word

But I agree on Turrents. It's like not learning a persons name. It's like a person failed to grasp what it was. I bet you, people who write turrents probably never HEARD the word spoken out loud. Come think of it, how colloquial a word is turret anyway? Probably less than colloquial

In any case, there are few people here whose spelling is so bad that their meaning doesn't carry through. Fire up your immense human communications skills and ignore teh bad speelings. They don't hurt, they don't smart. It's like discriminating against people with freckles or a lisp. Board life is so much more like speaking than writing letters or a thesis. We share the same medium, but the use is radically different.

I can live with spelling errors as long as people bother to learn and spell the names of their peers (persons such as
-={?[WTF]733+_h4X0r}=- etc. does NOT deserve that anyone can remember their name, though!)

How the hell do you accidently hit the 'N' key when all the keys need for turret are at the top of the keyboard? HUH!?!! Seeing turrents just gets on my damn nerves.

I´ve seen this confusion also in the name´s of the Aliens. IE, Skul´s, Skulk´s, Gorg´s, Gorge´s....etc.

Probably because on the score list it´s Skul and Gorg, but in the manual it´s Skulk and Gorge.

And i don´t think i have noticed anyone using turrent in a game yet.

This bugs me too. Normally, when people have problems with english grammar it's with words like 'explanation' or something more complex. So they don't bug me much... but TURRENT?!?! I mean, who came up with it in the first place? And where, just where did he/she find that extra N? Certainly not from the game...

    Eh, l33t sp33k doesn't bother me... I think it's fun, and funny (this from a 22-year-old Ivy League student). But yeah, poor spelling drives me nuts. "Weird" gets misspelled because of the "i before e" rule (which it doesn't follow, even though it looks like it should). Think of it this way - "weird" is weird, so it doesn't follow the rule. Weird, eh? (;

It's a simple fact: people will take you more seriously if you take the time to use proper spelling and grammar (grammAr, not grammEr) -- especially on an online board, where your typing skill is the ONLY thing with which they can judge you!
