    Rendy, I happen to be an admin at the Confsionville server (check my sig). If you want, I could ask confused! to put this in our map rotation so people could test it. PM me if you're interested. <!--emo&:)--><img src='http://www.unknownworlds.com/forums/html//emoticons/smile-fix.gif' border='0' style='vertical-align:middle' alt='smile-fix.gif' /><!--endemo-->

    seriously I dont see ay problem wit hlights in vents.
    but rendy: would like to see another duct texture, hl standart is a NONO! just change the texture, remove some tiles so you can see some pipes and wires, maybe some maintainance panels and voila: you have the explanation for placing lights in the vents.

    I spotted a few bugs (elevator and vent) but none that have not already been mentioned.

    The reason I like this map so much Rendy is not because of the nicely detailed and archtiechted areas finished off with superb lighting, but because of the more simplistic areas which have been made to look atmospheric and exciting by the lighting and texture usage, which must be near the 4MB limit (I'm hoping its not higher, for sake of official status). Good luck on submitting Beta 2, I hope it gets official status as this is a well deserved and great map.

    Enceladeus & Hulk in one weekend, two superb maps which are worthy of official status in my opinion, I wonder when we will see Source to accompany these maps? <!--emo&:)--><img src='http://www.unknownworlds.com/forums/html//emoticons/smile-fix.gif' border='0' style='vertical-align:middle' alt='smile-fix.gif' /><!--endemo-->

    So what's the current status?

    I'm now tweaking bugs wich reported Bob, then I want to redone Reactor and ICU and, depending on free leaves, add info_locations.
  • CrispyCrispy Jaded GD Join Date: 2004-08-22 Member: 30793Members, Constellation
    Don't change how they look too much! They my fav locations <!--emo&:(--><img src='http://www.unknownworlds.com/forums/html//emoticons/sad-fix.gif' border='0' style='vertical-align:middle' alt='sad-fix.gif' /><!--endemo-->

    Just optimise the r_speeds.

    I personaly dont really care about info_locations. I dont think they are that important anywayz. But you should add them if you have free space for them.

    Easier to read the waypoint on the screen saying "Hive - Engine" than reading a 5seconds HL chat or listening to someone say it and be drowned out by gunfire.

    Play competetive, its a neccessity.

    to reduce r_speeds in the reactor room, you should make the reactor cylinder about 16 units bigger, so it blocks vis from one door to the otherand you should make a word brush inside the middle part of the reactor (i guess the light changing texture thingy is an entity). You should also put the pipes to world brushes, the faces below the reactor are cut up bad anyway and those pipes make it worse.
    What i think does raise the r_speeds there is the upper part of the reactor, maybe there is a damaged brush or you just have to undetail that, this wouldnt reduce the wow effect of the room since no one really looks at those pipes
    edit: if you use gl_wireframe 2 you can also see that the pipes under the reactor are displayed at the icu (func_walls can be seen through walls often) - making them world brushes would ease the rspeed problem in the icu as well

    Okay, okay...

    I downloaded it and unzipped. And then it said that *cough*

    THESE FILES ARE FROM ANOTHER COMPUTER!!!
    THEY WILL BE BLOCKED BY THE GLORY OF BILL GATES!!!
    TO UNBLOCK YOU MUST GO INTO EACH FILES PROPERTIES AND UNBLOCK THEM!!!

    It is really painful since you cannot select them all at once to unblock. Windows XP SP2 anti-ftw <!--emo&:(--><img src='http://www.unknownworlds.com/forums/html//emoticons/sad-fix.gif' border='0' style='vertical-align:middle' alt='sad-fix.gif' /><!--endemo--> .

    What does that suppose to mean? Files are from another computer.... All the files has to come from some computer in the first place.

    rendy I like your map but think about that: a map based on 70% hallways is much harder to lern than a map with multible eyecatching locations. just think about that ^^

    I don't know about this feature of SP2, I don't have it (and don't ask why <!--emo&;)--><img src='http://www.unknownworlds.com/forums/html//emoticons/wink-fix.gif' border='0' style='vertical-align:middle' alt='wink-fix.gif' /><!--endemo--> ). Give me some solution. If I know about this I will fix it before release.

    @ lt.Gravity: Sorry I don't understand what U tried to tell me <!--emo&???--><img src='http://www.unknownworlds.com/forums/html//emoticons/confused-fix.gif' border='0' style='vertical-align:middle' alt='confused-fix.gif' /><!--endemo--> I want to include info_locations, but I need to take away somewhere (probably reactor)

    @ the_Bert: the r_speeds of reactor were about 700 wpolys until I added exits. (1050 are only when U are in front of it, from the side r_speeds are 700/800). And the pipes under reactor are now fixed, they are not visible from ICU any more.

    I've been using SP2 since its release and I've never heard of a feature like that. Sounds like some antivirus/security software set to be incredibly paranoid.

    rendy you should convert or replace some of the hallways into/by locations. hallways dont work well for most people because its too hard to orientate. understood?

    although you map looks fantastic i guess it will still have to stick to the guidelines to get official, and 700/800 ist oo much
    dont get me wrong, im just trying to help u... if added a picture

    the yellow lines indicate the line of sight, i guess you know what that means

    800 is OK, and Commander view can be 1000. There's nothing wrong with r_speeds that don't exceed these limits.
  • the_bERtthe_bERt Join Date: 2004-06-21 Member: 29436Members
    afaik 700 is the absolute maximum for a non commander and the reactor has about 1200 from player view - on my screen you see that you can see around 2 corners on each door and i guess that raises the r_speeds over the limit
  • ThaldarinThaldarin Alonzi&#33; Join Date: 2003-07-15 Member: 18173Members, Constellation
    If Rendy is going for official map status, I would suggest making the corridors longer to block a bit of the line of sight to lower r_speeds.

    If you need an image explaining the concept, just ask.

    @Thursday + The_Bert

    I already have concept how to optimize ractor's w_polys. But thanks for your interest <!--emo&:)--><img src='http://www.unknownworlds.com/forums/html//emoticons/smile-fix.gif' border='0' style='vertical-align:middle' alt='smile-fix.gif' /><!--endemo-->

    OK 1200 is too much but I still think that in this day and age 800 is OK. When you think about how quickly technology outdates itself these days I think that a revision of the minimum requirements might be in order.

    DoD's minimum r_speeds are at 800 and when you think about the fact that a huge number of people play it as a commercially available game, the teams are bigger, the playermodels are highpoly and there aren't such stringent limits on the entity counts etc. it seems that NS is being a bit strict with 700.

    That said 700 is better than 800 on any persons PC.

    but i guess there are no structures built by majors or oberfeldwebels <!--emo&:)--><img src='http://www.unknownworlds.com/forums/html//emoticons/smile-fix.gif' border='0' style='vertical-align:middle' alt='smile-fix.gif' /><!--endemo--> in dod - every building is an entity afaik and that makes ns very ressourcehungry for the server

    where EXACTLY is the problem? if everbody would place the textures 100% perfect on each face, maps would take twice the time to be completed.

    i think he is thikning the brushes are acctuly a unit or 2 off beacuse it seems that way from his crapy distortied image and lt gravity i disagree with you aobut takeing forever to compleat aligning your textures is a good habbit to get into and makes your brushwork look alot cleaner and most of the time generly better looking

    The eggs on the one hive wall are a nice touch it makes it feel like the hive is alive and aliens are gesting there.

    Everyone always moans "OMG I DONT GET 100FPS" in CS. I am hoping you are not one of these guys?

    I know my Radeon 9200 can do a big open area of about 1800-1900 r_speeds at 50-60FPS. So 1200 really doesn't bother me that much, the r_speed limit is there to account for lower specification machines. For example on my TNT2 a 800 r_speed area will be about 40-45fps.
