Not that I want to bring this back up, but just to defend myself:

I'm not trying to diss dialers, I'm speaking from experience. Until about a few months ago, I only had dial-up, in fact, aol. I used to download a lot of stuff overnight, and im not saying that dialers shouldnt dl the training map, just that it would be kinda pointless because they cant play the game itself. ns isnt singleplayer, and i have tried to play games online with dialup, but the lag is too much on anything more intensive than an rts or some rpgs. Every time i tried to play any fps: ns, ut, cs, dod, there was way too much lag for me play, and im sure it slowed down everyone else as well. so when i say dialers shouldnt play, im not saying it because i hate anyone with dailup, but because it truly is unplayable, and makes it very annoying for anyone who does have hispeed.

    so there <!--emo&:p--><img src='http://www.unknownworlds.com/forums/html//emoticons/tounge.gif' border='0' style='vertical-align:middle' alt='tounge.gif' /><!--endemo-->

and what do you mean making up quotes? the first two lines of my sig are obviously not quotes, and the last is an inside joke from high school.

Has there been any word from the devs about including this as the ns hazard course?

I guess im one the the unlucky ones with my dialup speed, i NEVER got more than 34k, and that happened once, it was usually around 28-32.

you need the mapfile to be able to playback a demo. so if you want to make a demo viewable by everyone, you would have to make the demo, and convert it to an avi.. or directly record it as avi with other programs like e.g. fraps.

Soz to derail things again but the guy talking about dialup lag and basing it on AOL needs to have things straightened out for him.

    AOL Dialup isn't 56k, it's a disease.

It sounds like AOL was costing you about 10000bps on your connection, which seems to be the case with a lot of AOL Dialup users I talk to. Whenever I used to see people with a ping of 440 I used to ask if they were downloading 'movies'. It turned out that the vast majority of them had AOL so now whenever I see them with a 300+ ping I just give them my condolences.

P.S. If you're going to reply to this post please don't mention AOL, simply refer to it as 'the disease'. Mentioning it 6 times in this post alone has led to me contracting cancer so I suggest you steer well clear of that abbreviation.

hmm, might hav to knock up a demo then as im reluctant to release it without things like the level change, pickupable welders (as without the weld point the sounds can overlap), triggered round start etc which is up to the devs really

to go almog with this..i woudl suggest recording a demo than using fraps or something to capture what us ee-- better frame rates overall <!--emo&:)--><img src='http://www.unknownworlds.com/forums/html//emoticons/smile-fix.gif' border='0' style='vertical-align:middle' alt='smile-fix.gif' /><!--endemo-->---btw that goes for captuurubng anyhting, if u record demo and play its decent playabuility...try to do it straight with fraps and its a slide show for you :'(

    *cough* *gasp* *weeze* MUST HAVE!!!!

On a side note: "The Disease" is a pitiful excuse for an internet connection, I cannot belive you managed to function a simi normal life without going insane cause of it. "The Disease" is like P33R 3V1L!

the point was that Rek had said people without hi-speed should not play. Keef has no problem with DL'ing huge things (obviously since he has Steam installed - we ALL know that is not a small install). He just didn't like being told he doesn't have the right to play the precious map.

As for the map itself ....

When will the map be done ?  <!--QuoteEnd--></td></tr></table><div class='postcolor'><!--QuoteEEnd-->

FYI yes, on another side note I do not mind DLing big files. I frequently DL overnite getting 100+ MB. lol, but actually I DLed Steam on like a T3 line. I drove 2 hours to go to a LAN party and ReDLed Steam there[Latest version](i had it Installed B4 but had lost it in a reformating) Reno, NV if anyone cares.

srry, had to put my 2 cents in

ya I saw that link like last month ... I have been using those mini maps for a bit now but 2 of the mini maps are not accurate... if you use them make sure you back up your originals like I did. I had to put back the one for I think bast and another one becuase the map was not showing up right and was more of a hinderence than not. The rest I am using as the named mini maps and like them very much <!--emo&:)--><img src='http://www.unknownworlds.com/forums/html//emoticons/smile-fix.gif' border='0' style='vertical-align:middle' alt='smile-fix.gif' /><!--endemo-->

yes, i realize that the disease is slower than most dialup services, although, quite unbelievably, i have encountered slower. and i do leave it on overnight as well, but i get most of my big files from friends who have hi speed.

on a side note, the disease's browser, which is required to be running in order to connect, is also a ram-hog. it is meant for n00b users who are either too lazy to learn something else, too stupid to learn something else, or just like the not-so-pretty colours and buttons.

for a programming class a few years ago, i built in the aol sounds like "Welcome, You've got mail" into my game, purposley to annoy people.

    It works.
