My Flash Layout
Hey,
I haven't posted in a while, but wanted to stop by to post a site layout I made from scratch, using flash. It's for my courses, but I'm going to use it later for other things.
*UPDATED*
<a href='http://mason.gmu.edu/~ake/flash.html' target='_blank'>Flash rocks.</a>
Comments?
Thanks

Now that, is a beautiful concept. Expand on that, and you are really going somewhere. Man I love that digital feel.
/me turns on light because I apparently lost the ability to type...but I have officially found the backspace....grrr....home row...gh..go home...have to remember hand placements...
EDIT: This is the second post that I have typed as Cold-Nite did at the same time...except hes faster....grrr! I'm a forum stalker!
Make the fade-in texts fade in much much faster. The user should never have to wait on text to pop up. Same goes for those menus that come out once you click, that animation should happen faster too.
personaly I like text to snap insto place instead of having to wait.
yea, i agree with you guys about the convenience over looks policy, but this site is primarily for looks and animations, so ill only change it a lil.
i have a question tho.
its really hard finding a good site size, cuz of the huge difference in peoples resolutions.
see, rite now, its at 1024x768, which is kinda small at my resolution at 1600x1200, but for people who have desktop res. at 1024, its huge, and you cant see everything.
Is there a way to make the site resolution ajustable depending on the client side res?
thanks

Change that to:

The "popups" definately need work, the borders / graphical work on the top are extremely amateurish and look very, well, done in Flash.
Flash can be an excellent platform to display your artwork, but this requires a lot of work to make it not look like it was done in Flash. The best Flash work is the type you have no idea it's in Flash.
All in all, it's an OK concept but it needs quite a substantial amount of work.
EDIT: DOOMeh, it's not so much that it should never keep the user waiting, just if it does keep the user waiting, make it seem worthwhile. <!--emo&:)--><img src='http://www.unknownworlds.com/forums/html//emoticons/smile-fix.gif' border='0' style='vertical-align:middle' alt='smile-fix.gif' /><!--endemo-->
EDIT 2: Handy little tip about flash. You can import .png images into Flash and it actually uses it's transparency values. <!--emo&:)--><img src='http://www.unknownworlds.com/forums/html//emoticons/smile-fix.gif' border='0' style='vertical-align:middle' alt='smile-fix.gif' /><!--endemo-->
That's true. As I browsed it I felt it needed more complex psuedo-sciency things to keep my attention.
LOL After revisiting your site I have to say, the stuff you have on there is very informative and somewhat hilarious. rofl, Team America: World Police. Pure Genius.
*EDIT* Weird typos.
Here's def. one. When you hover the mouse over one of the menu, make it do something, turn black or anything and/or make it do a sound.

huh? when you hover the menu, each on does turn black.
and everyone else, thanks for the comments, and yes, i realize it needs a lot of work, as the title says, its just a layout. most of the images wont even be there by the time im done. (replaced by imported images)
any other comments?
