Marines V Marines

Why it is better than normal CO
Played on a server with MvM (green v blue) for the first time recently.... Haven't played NS since 2.0 came out... so i was surprised that some servers could do that..... what an outrage.

Anyways.... it rocks. God knows why it was never added to mainstream NS. OK - there is an issue with nade spamming and the models for mines are disturbingly identical - but that aside - the gameplay is much better than Alien v Marines - more of an element of strategy. Now, i've only seen this done on a CO_map .. so i was wondering whether there are any normal NS_maps where MvM is possibe. Although the MvM concept is quite boring, it does feel much more competitive.......

Also... if NS does port-over to HL2 or source - i think it will suffer some strong opposition from "Empires Mod" - which seems to have a similar concept to NS - only strictly MvM and with vehicles and much larger structures....... so.... I encourage the community to ditch the SKULK... and switch to MvM before it is too late.....

P.S. bring back 1.04 -it was gaming perfection- i even liked the aliens .

From what you're saying, it sounds like you want this mod to go mainstream and ditch the whole mod concept, right? Just play the empires mod.

If you asked me what I wrote here in the first place I'd have no idea, proving that it took more thought to edit this post than to create it.

Today, my opinion of mVm is:

NS Marine versus marine gameplay is very gimmicky. It seems to be the best thing since sliced bread for the first few days of play, but then quickly becomes bland and boring. Give it a week. If you're still craving MvM after seven days, please see a physician.

co_ MvM was something discovered by MrBill, when I told him it wasn't possible... He spent a few hours screwing around with entities, and ended up making a working map.

ns_ MvM isn't possible, unless there was some amazing uber-plugin around.

AvA is buggy in co_, and not possible in ns_ (IIRC).

MvM maps are really just a fun little thing for people to play on... If a way to work MvM maps was discovered, why not show people how to do it? =P Personally, I'm not that huge a fan of it, though it's fun to play for a little bit.

Ditching the skulk = no. Just... no.

Aliens vs. Marines is what made the mod successful, and is what makes it such an original mod. Changing that would just be stupid, and mean a lot of people would leave.

When I said "NS marine versus marine," I was refering to NS as a whole, not a specific map type.

This thread will likely get locked soon to avoid a flamewar.

Basically you came in here, said "you should change everything about NS to make it more popular" MvM was fun for the first couple of hours of play but then its all the same...

You might as well play a vs of CS with some plugins... I know you can get plugins for HA and Jetpacks.

A significant portion of the comunity doesnt even like combat at all (my self included) and thinks that the game would be better off with out it. AvA would be fun for a few mins but then meelee vs meelee at the speed and wall climbing of skulks would be lame.

    MvM = CS on crack.

    Not to mention completely unoriginal.

It's not NS without marines vs aliens. That wouldn't be the same game, not even close. Replying to this topic without cursing is so amazingly hard......just go, go away and take your NS minus aliens with you.

I played it yesterday for some minutes, around 80% of both teams took gl and spammed each others spawn areas. I quited after being flamed for saying mvm is a bug.

It's still pretty fun though - much like ns_siege. Not something you want to play every day, but once in a while is good fun.
    Though shotgunjetpackmotionhaxing kills most everything

Interesting fact: NS:Classic MvM (i.e.: two commanders, two teams, likely a lot of new balance to keep the game alive with two sides using ranged force) has been confirmed as a possible addition as early as 1.0x, and still pops up in team discussions on occasion. It's not that a 'ranged faction vs. ranged faction' mode would necessarily not work - it only needs quite some effort to get into good shape. Big surprise.

As for the Empires mod - I wish them good luck. The modding scene is not exactely a very competitive area. Every game around here is for free, so players don't have to be exclusive if they don't want to.

I played MvM on the co_blackmesa map. It was quite fun for a while, fighting opponents with similar weapons, but as soon as one team started getting GLs they quickly dominated the map and won. Each game turned into a race to GL, massive GL spam-war and then victory.

It might be improved if GL was removed entirely (or severely restricted). Fun at first, but not for very long.

I hate MvM... The reason I like this game so much, is because its not just a regular shooter. The capture the gorge mode was fun a few times, but like some other people said... everyone gets a gl, gl spam the spawnpoints, and keep on capturing the gorge.

i played MvM when it was green versus blue and even before that when there was no difference between the teams. god was that stupid. but with the blue versus green it was still hard to tell the difference between teams. so now it's red versus blue or green, can't remember, and one team uses the Halo master chief model. and we play on CS and DOD and custom maps for those mods and it totally rocks although i wish it was NS classic mode and not combat because with combat large parts of those maps become pointless and unvisited which is a shame. the server is called something like Zero Tolerance btw. you are right about grenade lauchers though. first team to get a grenade launcher basically won all the time so they had to be nerfed.

    My thoughts and feelings:
    - I like NS the way it is
    - But I hope it will be ported to HL2
    - New game modes e.g. MvsM should come after the old NS has been ported

About Empires: I know this mod since I played the old versions for Battlefield 1942. Gameplay feels totally different compared with NS. My network will also host websites for Empires ( currently my page for it is out of date ). If you take a look at these screenshots or those you can see that they have a total different way of gameplay in mind.

Wide open MvM maps. The GL can't take down the JP'er in the sky. It takes 1-2 shots with the shotty to take down those pesky GL'ers.

Of course the GL problem would be solved in MvM if you just removed motion tracking, the most vital upgrade for those types of maps.

I think it'd be cool if they marines with aliens vs another team of marines and aliens. Just a bunch of marines with hmgs riding around on an onos shooting things... sweet.

Ugh, MvM will probably be fun and interesting for people who never tried it, but it gets old pretty fast. My opinion of MvM is that it's the same thing as CS, cept for people who can't aim really well since there is no instant headshot hitbox kills. It's more or less, spray and pray, spam nades for the win. It also totally takes away from the concept and uniqueness that is NS.

With jetpacks, grenade launchers, "superkevlar", much less damage done per shot, no headshots, totally different acting of the machineguns and the pistol, grenades, no secondary fire, motion tracking(more like motion haxing), weapon damage upgrades, armor upgrades, automatic heal/more ammo feature, welder, and did I mention grenades?
    Oh wait.

The whole ida of NS is that there ARE aliens in it. I think co_ in general isnt overly exciting and Marine vs Marine just gets really linear with gl's...

Marine vs marine would be a lot better on good maps with some sorts of objectives.

Having a 2fort map with 20 people spamming grenades at each other isn't fun.
