VAC doesnt do anything.. you can get pass VAC easily. Including Cheating Death, you can spoof Cheating Death, its been done and it works perfectly it will make it seem like your running Cheating Death when ur actually not.

Not having VAC support is certainly a problem, but Cheating Death is really the only alternative for now.

Half the time people are "hacking", it's actually that you did a really stupid thing (charging an onos with an LMG). There is built in ESP for both teams (MT, SoF), weapons that stay accurate the whole time for the marines. Put all this together, and you've got a game full of "hackers"

<b>Tips to get you killed less:</b>
    <i>If you are playing as alien, <!--emo&::skulk::--><img src='http://www.unknownworlds.com/forums/html//emoticons/skulk.gif' border='0' style='vertical-align:middle' alt='skulk.gif' /><!--endemo--> <!--emo&::asrifle::--><img src='http://www.unknownworlds.com/forums/html//emoticons/asrifle.gif' border='0' style='vertical-align:middle' alt='asrifle.gif' /><!--endemo--> is the way to go.
If you are playing as marine, don't rambo off, but instead, follow your team to the waypoints.</i>

Just some helpful tips from your friend, the Krad.

P.S. And as for retail... it's pretty much been said it won't be done for now.

First, you run into many hackers.
Then, you realize that you were wrong most of the time.
Finally, you run into hacking accusations.

    The path winds on.

Don't give out unrealistic ideas about who does and doesn't hack, and don't gang up on him for it, there are a lot of hackers, and the number is rising, it's time to start accepting the fact that a lot of these pubbers aren't just "really" good, whether you'd like to believe it or not.

At the same time, isn't that just such a convenient crutch to use whenever you get beaten? Don't even start talking about the 'facts' of NS cheating statistics. For a size comparison, for every one true cheater there will be about 5'000 or more false accusations by players who push their own personal egotistical agendas. Been there, done that.

There are few true hackers in NS. If hackers want to do good in NS they have to make it blatent otherwise they will still get owned by the skilled.

    It's a rare game indeed.

The only definite hacker I'vecome across was a guy with a speed hack.
However, there was one guy who seemed to have a wallhack - and the rines didnt haveMT. Any corner, bam. ALready linedup for the shot.. Sill, it seems rare.

This is exactly it; sound is a vital part of ns, so any kill attributed to a wall hack is most likely a skilled person listening for you.

The only hacks that cannot be detected easily are ESP style; and they really do proove to be of little use.

Anyone who does hack either does themselves no good, or looks so bloody obvious that they're kicked/banned within 2 minutes.

I don't see VAC to be an urgent priority.

Well after reading this threads for awhile about hackers I decided to go off and hunt down some hacks for NS and see how they worked. Yes I admit to using hacks, only to really find out how they work, I do not use them any more.

I used 3 different types of hacks.

A wallhack, an aimhack and to see what it was like a speedhack.

In the wallhack I saw that the SOF system for the aliens was used by marines revealing the movement of aliens AND my marine team mates all as if they were parasited and I had hive sight. With this it was extremly easy for me to be aware of aliens hiding round corners and know where they were in fact it I practically got away with no one noticing as I used this information "discretionally", for example I would hang with other marines and be dirty and let them go ahead to get attack by said waiting skulk and then kill it for myself.

Cloakers were also intresting as they were sneaking right up in front of me and clearly moving into bite, I stood still and "pretended" to look carefully and let off a few blasts of my LMG or SG on the ground prehaps not specficly aiming towards the cloaker's area.

As aliens though the wall hack was perfect a free SOF upgrade and if anyone asked... you just said. "Yeah I've got SOF" - Ever seen an admin check you after you say that?

The aimhack was a complete joke I gotta say. The whole time I had it run all it did was aim my gun to the right of any skulks and I wouldn't hit them at all and it did not adjust its "lock" at all eg. Skulk is in my vision but goes and a fade attacks me I would still be aiming to the right of the skulk. <!--emo&:p--><img src='http://www.unknownworlds.com/forums/html//emoticons/tounge.gif' border='0' style='vertical-align:middle' alt='tounge.gif' /><!--endemo-->
And lets not talk about how it worked for any of the aliens... Try being a fade and blinking... :s

Finally the speedhack I dunno how the hell anyone plays with one. I practically went flying around a level and had trouble even getting to focus on any alien skulk and skulk... pssh...

Anyway.. Out of the 3 hacks I checked out the wall hack was really the only working one and fullfilled its point and was the easiest one to hide, eg. Someone accuses you of wall hacking or says "How did you know I was there?" if someone hops into spectator mode all you have to do is run round a corner and get eaten by a couple of skulks waiting to ambush you.

Anyway... Thats my ramblings about hacks and I just want to thank the admin that allowed me to be lame on his server for awhile so I could find out some info about the hacks I tired out.

Anyway thats my low down on the stuff.

So inconclusion really most players out there will be skilled by having to aim their own and play at normal speed, I can't say much about wall hackers since its easy to pass off.

Please excuse the large text and flamboyant colors but some idiots don't seem to learn:

    <span style='color:red'><span style='font-size:14pt;line-height:100%'><i><b>Cheats != Hacks</b></i></span></span>

Thanks to CS many people now think that hacking can also mean cheating but they are completely different!

    Capice?

The footstep sound in Half-Life reveals so accurately the position of a player, compared to many newer games, that the wise player uses it as a built-in hack that leaves no need for a worthless wall-hack.

Unfortunately, it's always easier to kick and ban than to learn how to use it.

There will always be hackers in pubs. Most ppl just can't tell the difference between hack & skill. Therefore they either ban both or play with both.

    Just to clear it up.
Cheating: Downloading something someone already hacked
Hacking: Altering the game code or rendering code/clock speed etc etc etc in your favor

Those people you see on servers are cheaters. Hackers usually write cheats to test their skills in hacking(IE being one step ahead of the anti-cheat programs)

(Note that this is code hacking into the dlls or altering game code on the fly, not to be confused with breaking into networks etc)
