    Jealous? us?

Whoa. Well, I don't see Counter-Strike players coming here and say we're jealous of their mod, or anything, because it isn't well accepted here, either.

You would figure out that in a forum where people play a <b>SCI-FI</b> mod they wouldn't like the idea of a HL2 realism mod (specially because there's thousands of them. Well, that, and the fact that noone reads information on websites, either).

But whatever they want to think, really.

Edit: Not saying everyone hates realism mods around here, though. <!--emo&:p--><img src='http://www.unknownworlds.com/forums/html//emoticons/tounge.gif' border='0' style='vertical-align:middle' alt='tounge.gif' /><!--endemo--> It's not incompatible.

after reading through thier site and all, i still fail to see the "uniqueness" of the mod.. why should i choose that one and not one of the other realistic mods ?

    Eh...

Realism games don't interest me at all, so I can't say that I'm really looking forward to this mod. But I will say the artwork does look pretty nice.

All I have to say is, it really would suck if when it does get released it's not really all it's been hyped up to be. It looks like they've put quite a bit of work into it thus far, would be a damn shame to see this mod actually produce a game (since this one actually looks like it has a chance unlike pretty much every other 'HL2 mod' I've seen so far), and nobody plays it.

And furthermore... why are you letting a moddb decision bother you? Come on, it's... moddb.

A few points to be heard. First of all, MODDB came to us, and selected us for this award. Of course, we were honored, and at the same time, we had the same feelings that you are all expressing. We understand that our mod is not playable at the moment. Just keep that in mind guys, that we are not declaring ourselves mod of the month or anything when we are aware we do not have a playable mod at the moment, we were chosen.

Here's a quote by the person who ran this article, defending his decision choosing Insurgency as the MOTM:

<!--QuoteBegin-Steelwind+--></div><table border='0' align='center' width='95%' cellpadding='3' cellspacing='1'><tr><td><b>QUOTE</b> (Steelwind)</td></tr><tr><td id='QUOTE'><!--QuoteEBegin--> If I'm not mistaken, the Mod of the Month award goes to the development team that encompasses all of the nuances of the artform. It goes to the mod that demonstrates artistic merit, organization, determination, and creativity. A final product doesn't always have to be released to demonstrate the traits and characteristics of a development team. We give out this award to any team that has consistenly shown a true spirit for game design and embodies that spirit on a regular basis. This month we felt that Insurgency fell into this catagory better than any other mod team. We stand by our selections and hope to give some recognition to the work being done in this industry.<!--QuoteEnd--></td></tr></table><div class='postcolor'><!--QuoteEEnd-->

I honestly hope that you guys do not have negative feelings toward INS just because we were chosen as MOTM. We are hard at work to produce the ideas we have presented. For those of you who consider us just another realism mod, I would suggest reading more on our features. We appreciate those of you who understand the situation.

    Thanks. <!--QuoteEnd--> </td></tr></table><div class='postcolor'> <!--QuoteEEnd-->

    get off my intraweb!

also it has nothing to do with hating ins because of the award it's simply because you got an award based on NOTHING but ideas and visuals.

i agree with a lot of people here that mods that get it should have been released.

Please stop flaming INS... This thread isn't about INS, our mod ... It's about the way our mod is being hyped by other sites. I posted here once or twice about Insurgency, showing you some artwork, just to let you guys see what we are capable of (media whise).

I know all those previews are a bit rushed, but you got to understand we can't refuse them. Like Jeremy said, we feel very honored they choose us. We're just a mod trying to make a game we believe in. Don't flame our mod before you played it.

Certainly some of our fans(forum members)/dev members feel offended by this thread... Wouldn't you be if they flamed (in any way) your favourite (or the one you are working on) game/mod? I know this thread was originaly started about the way our mod is being hyped by other sites such as moddb & pcgamer. I taught it was pretty funny and I had a good laugh. But some of the forum members here started to slide of he subject... I respect all your opinions and I hope we can continue to live in peace like we used to. (I dont want this becoming a INS vs NS thing) I'm a NS player myself and I enjoy playing it very much. It offers a complete new gameplay and that is something that inspired me and other dev members of INS in some way.

If you took some time to read about some features we have planned you'll see that we resembe NS in some ways, I know Argyll (the project leader) doesn't like me to make the comparision, but oh well <!--emo&:p--><img src='http://www.unknownworlds.com/forums/html//emoticons/tounge.gif' border='0' style='vertical-align:middle' alt='tounge.gif' /><!--endemo-->

    - complete different opposite teams

    <b>Unconventional Forces (Guerillas) :</b>
    - fast, more arcadish gameplay
    - independent gameplay not or less focused on teamwork

<!--QuoteBegin--></div><table border='0' align='center' width='95%' cellpadding='3' cellspacing='1'><tr><td><b>QUOTE</b> </td></tr><tr><td id='QUOTE'><!--QuoteEBegin-->These teams are generally not as well off in terms of support (fire support, transportation). However, they do make up with a hefty supply of machine gun and RPG ammunition to take on and overwhelm the enemy with their own firepower. The Paramilitary is organized into formal Squads, but the Guerrillas are not organized in this way so they have to band together and let those strong leaders take charge. For supply, there are weapons caches strategically placed throughout the map in order to replenish their equipment supplies. <!--QuoteEnd--></td></tr></table><div class='postcolor'><!--QuoteEEnd-->

    <b>Conventional Forces :</b>
    - commander mode
    - squads with different classes each lead by a commander (on the field)
    - slower, more focused on realisme gameplay
    - AI controlled vehicles

<!--QuoteBegin--></div><table border='0' align='center' width='95%' cellpadding='3' cellspacing='1'><tr><td><b>QUOTE</b> </td></tr><tr><td id='QUOTE'><!--QuoteEBegin-->These teams are organized into a Platoon structure with a proper chain of command that allows experienced players to rise and lead the team into battle. Conventional teams also have improved combat support including transportation by vehicle convoy or helicopter as well as accurate fire support from artillery, mortars, or air.<!--QuoteEnd--></td></tr></table><div class='postcolor'><!--QuoteEEnd-->

Take the mod tour on <a href='http://www.insmod.net' target='_blank'>our site</a> if you want more info about our gameplay.

I know the INS theme ins't very original, but it's a subject that anyone knows and hears about every day on the news. Insurgency is based on things that happened and stil happen every day around the world. What is happening right now in Iraq is called insurgency.

We are trying to blow new life into this rather "popular" theme by creating a new sort of gameplay around it.

When you make a game you have the choise between creating something based of the real world, something totally imaginary, or something in between. We felt that the first choise was the best one for our ideas. Because first of all, half of the team has a military background or still is active in the military.

    Pff <!--emo&:p--><img src='http://www.unknownworlds.com/forums/html//emoticons/tounge.gif' border='0' style='vertical-align:middle' alt='tounge.gif' /><!--endemo--> I could continue this for hours but let's see how you guys react to what I already posted <!--emo&:)--><img src='http://www.unknownworlds.com/forums/html//emoticons/smile-fix.gif' border='0' style='vertical-align:middle' alt='smile-fix.gif' /><!--endemo-->

I'm working on a Half-Life 2 mod. It's called <a href='http://terminus-discord.com' target='_blank'>Terminus Discord.</a> Obviously, we have no code, and we haven't released any 3d models yet. I don't care in the least if someone trashes it and says it's the worst mod ever, because they <i>haven't played it.</i> Their opinion means nothing. Conversely, getting offended because someone is insulting NOTHING is just as weird as insulting nothing. Nobody is making fun of the models; they're very nice. But Insurgency right now is just as fun to play as every other Half-Life 2 mod, and there's no point in getting mad about it.

Actually we're doing everything that is possible to eleminate such behaviour.
When you first join the game you start as a private and you can't do much but fight the enemy and listen/or not listen to your commander. If you listen to the orders you get rewards... those rewards (extra points, and some other things) let you climb up in a general ladder that is saved on an external server. This will allow you to try out other and higher classes and at the end become a commander. If you don't listen and missbehave you will be punished and lose points.
Now this system hasnt been finalised, we're still working it out and playtests will allow us to fine tune the system.
I think it's up to the server admin if they want to be linked to the ladder or if they want to be able to function without the ladder. If a server works without the ladder you can join whatever class you want without any limits (I think) or you will able to climb the ladder much faster, like the alien system in NS.

If you're more of an arcadish player and you dislike the teamwork you can join the unconventional side which allows you to play (more) on your own without thinking about team tactics to much.

It would be nice if this can cease.

Clearly, you guys were dissapointed in MODDB for choosing us, and that's okay.

However, further mis-interpretations from both communities, Natural Selection and Insurgency, is not necessary. This should not turn into an anti-Insurgency or an anti-Natural Selection argument. Some of our community made anti-NS comments, but some of this community made anti-Insurgency comments, so it all evens out, and I think it's time to just end this. There's no more need to argue.

    <span style='color:white'>Warning to everyone: Stop being flamey.</span>

For ins fans that have signed up just to talk about the mod, you'd do better to chat up the interesting aspects of the game instead of just providing arguments. And for our community members, I expect better of you. The ins team members have been very informative and friendly, and I'm curious to see how this mod turns out. Especially the external experience system, that will be the big selling point. I'd like to be able to leave this thread open for further discussion of the mod. Anyone who feels the need to be rude after this point: you have been warned.

Lets look at it this way:
There's this really well known mod review site, which everyone knows and loves.

The mod review site, after looking through multitudes of mods has finally chosen a mod for mod of the year.

    However...
That mod is just a concept mod; a mod with models and pictures and a textual plan of about what it's going to do. And that's it.

THAT is the mod of the year. A GHOST. That, for all intensive purposes, could <b>dissolve</b> away all the work visible at ANY moment.

And wouldn't <i>you</i> get a little ticked-off if a <i><b>ghost</b></i> got chosen as mod of the year, when you have a actually playable client with all the other stuff?

I'm aquainted with several of the INS team members (including Argyll, working on previous mods) and firmly believe they will be one of the more successful mods when HL2 is released.

I think the issue for many seems to be "You can't select a "mod of the month" when the mod isn't released!" rather than anything against INS specifically, and that this sort of animosity would occur no matter what mod in progress they were showcasting, be it INS, Jurrasic Rage, or any other.

I think simply changing the name to "Most Anticipated Mod of the Month" would satisfy many of these issues. I have no problem with someone showcasing a mod that isn't released, as it gives me a heads up as to what to look for when HL2 is released.

    Oh, and I still liked OPCOIN better <!--emo&:p--><img src='http://www.unknownworlds.com/forums/html//emoticons/tounge.gif' border='0' style='vertical-align:middle' alt='tounge.gif' /><!--endemo-->

it's very very very very unlikely to dissolve because of the professional team and i know a lot of the members worked on the ut2k4 mod red orchestra (www.redorchestramod.com)

I'm not against ModDB's decision in any way. I actually like the fact that they chose the MOTM as an unreleased mod - shows that they really go out of their way to find a good mod (could have picked CS easily...). They took the care to select a good mod in its development.
This looks quite nice, actually. I want it to come out, and it's less than likely that it will dissolve. I don't want to lower anyone's hopes (nor do I have the authority to), but it is possible that just about any mod will dissolve (Dark Project: Insurrection Alpha - for anyone that knows what I'm talking about).
Ok, I'm setting a negative mood here. Woot, keep up the good models and ideas and everthing <!--emo&:)--><img src='http://www.unknownworlds.com/forums/html//emoticons/smile-fix.gif' border='0' style='vertical-align:middle' alt='smile-fix.gif' /><!--endemo-->
PS sorry if I really did seem negative. Mods do dissolve, some more likely to than others. This is one of those that isn't likely at all <!--emo&:)--><img src='http://www.unknownworlds.com/forums/html//emoticons/smile-fix.gif' border='0' style='vertical-align:middle' alt='smile-fix.gif' /><!--endemo-->

They have a bunch of flamey nubs over there. This mod looks very promising. Don't blind us too much with your shiny models, guys.
