helpers wanted
We are opening a large amount of servers on tripplet dual xeon machines.

Being that this a lovely place to attract NS fans, we threw up a 32 player NS Server.
We basically need some people to go in and get a game going, attract some folks. We want to see just how much the boxes can handle.

This is not a plug, we just need to stress test before we start renting out.

Here are the servers we are currently running.
24 Player CS 64.27.6.84:27015
32 Player DOD 64.27.6.84:27016
32 Player TFC 64.27.6.84:27017
28 Player CS:S 64.27.6.84:27014
28 Player CS:S 64.27.6.84:27013
32 Player SI 64.27.6.84:27019
32 Player NS 64.27.6.84:27018
64 Player BF1942 64.27.6.84:14567
As well as a freelancer server and streaming kmfdm radio:

Bandwidth isn't an issue, it's more a matter of what the machines can handle. These are all on one box, so the more players we get in there, the better we can gauge our limitations.

We'd appreciate your help!

I have about 200 computers at my disposal. Let's see what these servers can do.

    Not.

    Hi,

Please tell me that is in some way aliased. If that's a single machine running on that IP, it's going to die, frankly. Horribly, in a painful way.

..indeed... I'm hoping triplet means 3 of them. I've only managed to get 2 NS Servers to run(Comfortably with full load of 24 players) on a dual p4 2ghz Xeon Win machine with 2gigs of mem. So, if that works I'll be impressed.

Yes, we have three machies. Those are all on one. Like I said, we are Stress testing the machines. In order to find the limit for our machines (not your machines, our machines) then we need people to fill the servers. I've run various game servers for a long time, and am well aware of the ammount of cpu power the HL games eat, especially NS. We will make the adjustments and remove servers as we find our limit for each machine. You can hasstle me about it, or you can help, either way, I thought I'd simply bring the matter to all of your attention.

Each machine has two 2.8ghz Xeon procs and two gigs corsair ram each.

I'd like to thak Kamikaze!!! for his constructive remark.

We stress tested each machine with 8 64 player BF coop servers (all full of cpu munching bots) and didn't have any issues with performance.

I urge you to assist us, but can understand if you're busy.

We had 32 players in the NS server, 28 in the SI server, and then 16, 18, 28 in the three source servers (as well as 4 in the 1.6 server) and we didn't see a performance hit in the least.

I'd love to help if it wasn't for the lack of broadband internet...

*cries, hides in corner, curles into fetal position*

Any chance you'll be interested in me helping admin in the future?

    poor x5 lol.

I meant impressed if all on one machine. I'll be glad to help when I get home tonight. Right now I was just commenting.

And I appreciate the feedback, this is all great stuff to know.

Also, being that we run 8 HL based servers, x5 brought up an important point.

I'll be accepting applications from people willing to help me police my fleet. If you're qualified (and by qualified I mean have admin'd on a respectable server before... and wasn't fired for abusing).

This discussion will be much easier to manage if it's taken to my forums on whutdufuk.com. If you have time, drop in and feed us some feedback.

    Jeeeezz.....

I was merely suggesting. As for a pair of bot filled 64 slot BF's, I find that unlikely. I run almost identical machines, and I've watched them die miserably to similar loads. The IP was why I was asking, because it would seem the same IP (Depending on port, I'm presuming NAPT here) points for all 3 machines.

Don't assume that just because we didn't jump up & down screaming me me me it was flaming, or non-constructive.

Agreed with Shockwave... maybe you should reduce the load a little bit :/

Advertising for a server, even as a stress-test, is not permitted here. Ditto for recruiting staff.
