Its fun for a bit, you try and kill your target without being seen (note the hallways are all knowing so kill in a room). You have to keep thinks like food bathroom sleep and all that good stuff low, just like real life.

The Ship is an awesome mod. Everyone is given identities, and you wander around the ship talking to other people. When you talk to someone, you learn their identity. Every player has a quarry, someone they are trying to kill. Unfortunately, killing people isn't as easy as just shooting them: if other people spot you, or you pull out a weapon near a security camera, it's jail for you. In addition to contending with trailing and killing your quarry without alerting them, you also have needs. Too little social interaction, or food, or fun, or sleep, and you will die.

It's crazy fun and I totally recommend it.

I played The Ship for a bit, and it was made stupid by the fact that nobody was playing it right. All the players just sprinted full-speed around the ship taking everyone's names until they found their target. Half the point of the game is that you're supposed to act like an NPC. And then there are the people who just kill everybody they can for the hell of it...

The trick is finding a good server. Once you do that you're fine. Remember, the game is made for 8 people or less normally.

How about we start one of our own?

    I wouldn't mind giving this a go.

I've been playing this for about 2 weeks now. The most recent patch made has improved gameplay lightyears, so if you ditched it because of idiot players before Oct 2nd (I think that was when it was patched) give it another shot. Now you have 30 seconds after every kill to complete your own, and servers can change the number of witnesses required to be caught (default is still three, but the game is MUCH more interesting at 2 or 1). There's less time pressure, so you can set up sneakier traps. I've been actually stalking people across the ships, waiting for that moment that no one is around except the two of us to strike. I've been putting those proxy mines and satchels to very good use.

The next patch may improve things even more, as there's serious discussion of making it so that you can overhear other conversations... bringing even more stalking strategy into play. This game just keeps getting better and better.

btw, I hate Steam, apparently my computer hasn't been deemed worthy enough to recieve updates like that. Or to enter new preload phases for HL2.

My favorite kill on 'Ship' was when it was first released. My target went to the restroom so I dropped a wallet bomb outside the stall. A friend comes in, sees me, sees the wallet, and runs. Target comes out, tries to pick it up a few times, begins to run. *BOOM* MEAT FIREWORKS.
