Being able to critize yourself is all you need, along with the basic analytic mindset most people able to operate a computer posess to a reasonable degree. And those are the only generic and sweeping skills really necessary, everything else is learning the intricacies of the game.

Saltzbad means to say "don't be a close minded fool" when you're in the chair.

I would have to say most of this is common sense though. At least Sun Tzu was.

Clauswitz and Machiavelli are much more informative. Sun Tzu's Art of War is mostly a collection of common sense information that nonetheless many people should read. A lot of warfare in general is simply understanding your opponent and what they will do. Once you've done this you have a competitive advantage that will prove fatal to your opponent.

This book will not make you a better comm. Nor will it make you a better field commander. But what it will do is make you feel l33t, like you stayed at a holiday inn last night.

As Adj points out: Clauswitz and Machiavelli, however I think that their texts are mostly common sense also.
