Help Booting Computer

<div class="IPBDescription">Doesn't detect cd....</div> So I just got my new comp and the installation went fine, then I turned on the comp to configure the BIOS to my devices. Both the CDROM and the HDD are detected but after the BIOS load I get the same message over and over.

Reboot and select proper boot device or insert Boot Media into Boot Device.

Realizing I forgot to put the windows xp cd in, I put it in the ROM and restart the comp. Again I get the same error.

Please help as this is becoming quite irritable.

Um... in the bios settings, make sure first boot drive is set to CD-Rom...

Did that, should I just take the HDD off the boot all together and just leave the ROM?

u want to install xp? boot from a bootdisk and go to r:\..blablabla..\i386 and run winnt.exe..

Where can I learn how to make a boot disk and does it have to be win xp specific or does it matter?

OK found a site that has some boot disks, thx for the help. I hope it works.

any mobo made since the pentium2 can boot to cd, and any cd drive since around then can do the same.

if bios sees the cd drive and it is set as the boot device you should just need to ahve the cd inserted.

go into control panel-systems-cdrom click properties and look around somewhere in there and see if your cdrom is actually enabled. It happened to me when I installed my dvd burner, installing it turned off my cd-writer.

Try taking out the cdrom from the case, and set the jumper position to master.
