Ns_attrition

<div class="IPBDescription">well I figured I may as well...</div> Ok, first things first; those who have been around for a while may remember that I originally started attrition around the start of this year, the screens from it are <a href='http://www.unknownworlds.com/forums/index.php?showtopic=50533&' target='_blank'>here (please don't bump)</a>. Some time in late Jan it went the way most maps tend to go (HDD crash). It wasn't until a month or two ago that I finally found some time to start rebuilding it, so after a month or so, here are the first stages of ns_attrition:

<img src='http://www.terminus-discord.com/~mouse/ns_attrition0003.jpg' border='0' alt='user posted image' />

Mainframe Cooling Core - Hive
<img src='http://www.terminus-discord.com/~mouse/ns_attrition0004.jpg' border='0' alt='user posted image' />

<img src='http://www.terminus-discord.com/~mouse/ns_attrition0005.jpg' border='0' alt='user posted image' />

Breezeway - Hive
<img src='http://www.terminus-discord.com/~mouse/ns_attrition0006.jpg' border='0' alt='user posted image' />

Breezeway - Hive
<img src='http://www.terminus-discord.com/~mouse/ns_attrition0007.jpg' border='0' alt='user posted image' />

Viewport - Marine Start
<img src='http://www.terminus-discord.com/~mouse/ns_attrition0008.jpg' border='0' alt='user posted image' />

Viewport - Marine Start
<img src='http://www.terminus-discord.com/~mouse/ns_attrition0009.jpg' border='0' alt='user posted image' />

I've had a couple of people ask me for a test map and I'm afraid to say, I don't exactly have one to give. All I have is pretty much what you see in those screenies, no ambience or particle systems as of yet as I'm focusing on getting the map done first. Also, with exception to the marine start and the random corridor; nothing is connected.

    Gah! Very nice! I seriously love the colours, and your architecture looks far more interesting than anything i would come up with.

    seems to have progressed considerably since i last saw it, and it looks great. The architecture strikes me as somewhere between ns_lost and something totally new and sexy. love the contrasting light colors & windows. keep it up!

    Nice screenshots, Mouseh. It "looks like a combat map" to me, but I say that about any map that uses a lot of ns2.wad <!--emo&:p--><img src='http://www.unknownworlds.com/forums/html//emoticons/tounge.gif' border='0' style='vertical-align:middle' alt='tounge.gif' /><!--endemo--> Don't worry about that. Keep up the good work and elves will massage your feet and feed you cookies.

    Doesn't look like any version of Hydrosity I've played. **Checks Topic Title** Oh wait.... (I didn't see Bob's Hydrosity joke before I wrote this, but I wish I had <!--emo&:angry:--><img src='http://www.unknownworlds.com/forums/html//emoticons/mad-fix.gif' border='0' style='vertical-align:middle' alt='mad-fix.gif' /><!--endemo-->).

    Screen shots look great as always Mouse. Can't wait to see what you have planned for the layout.

    And Tyr remember what the nice doctors said: if you take the wrapper off the Twinkie <b>BEFORE</b> you eat it, you won't see the little Elves.

    I've always wondered why a hive would sit in a cooling core. They seek out warm, damp, wet etc places just like plants and stuff. A cooling core - wouldn't that be a bit cold for it? <!--emo&:p--><img src='http://www.unknownworlds.com/forums/html//emoticons/tounge.gif' border='0' style='vertical-align:middle' alt='tounge.gif' /><!--endemo-->

    Moisture; not to mention the hive is under a fan (which for the purposes of me being right and brute_force being wrong <!--emo&;)--><img src='http://www.unknownworlds.com/forums/html//emoticons/wink-fix.gif' border='0' style='vertical-align:middle' alt='wink-fix.gif' /><!--endemo-->) blows warm air into the cooling core.

    and thanks for the comments guys.

    Yeah, logic would normally lead you to the conclusion that a cooling core would be extracting heat from another place, thus the ambient temperature being higher...

    You do good work Mouse. This is looking very promising.

    Mousy....You are the navigator! (sorry, just finished watching the old movie "the flight of the navigator" - bah..most of you kids wouldn't have been born when that movie came out)..

    Good things: Seriously nice work - very organic looking...nice feel...very flowing...

    Only bad thing: You've got some fluro lights in one corridor that are rectangular and the light that comes from them is round - either change the texture or make a func_illusionary that blocks the light into a rectangle...cause it just looks wrong..

    They're actually 3 light_spots next to each other, so it is a bit wider than normal. but I'm thinking about increasing the outer angle (atm the inner angle is the same as the outer angle) to fade out the lights a bit.

    Oh and Hanz? I remember watching that film as a kid too. I feel old now. <!--emo&:(--><img src='http://www.unknownworlds.com/forums/html//emoticons/sad-fix.gif' border='0' style='vertical-align:middle' alt='sad-fix.gif' /><!--endemo-->

    I personally blame your corrupting influence for that.

    In other news, it seems I don't have any screenies of the old Omega Bulkhead to reference, which means you get a lovely shiny new Omega Bulkhead.
