He's right. Generally, we get 4-8 people playing most evenings around 6-10PM (Mountain Standard Time. That's 1AM-5AM GMT). But it varies... And there's always the weekend Playtests!

Meh, it isn't that I can't come on Saturdays. Not at all....

It's wether I'm awake or not that's the problem XD

I still look forward to the release of this mod though. The concept is interesting....

How well does the mod play in very large or small games?
  • MantridMantrid Lockpick Join Date: 2003-12-07 Member: 24109Members
Very large is great for humans. Lots of people to keep the zombie(s) at bay.

Very large is fun for zombies. Especially when humans travel in super large groups. The people in the front always get a weapon first, leaving the people in back who have spent their ammo defending the group to fend for themselves. Then, when a zombie runs in the middle, people either start shooting wildly (wasting their ammo, or, if FF is on, possible even killing each other), or figure its "someone else's problem", and go about their business until they're torn apart by the undead. And once a few members go down, the whole herd dies off quickly.

ZP is great. But what it needs right now are some dedicated servers [from all around the globe.. especially Australia.. grr], and some modellers + skinners + animators..

Graphically, eeew. But it looks like great fun, the most important thing is to get gameplay right, polishing graphics is for later.

I am a pt (proving its also not what you know, its who you know *huggles Jimmeh*) and i have to say its pretty damn amazing, especially considering its not even complete yet. i think ZP has a great Dev team, everything us pt's have said has been carefully taken into account and added or changed or whatever. I knew it was a briliant game when the first or second time i played, we were on a certain map and at one part theres a room (zombo spawn) and theres a biiiiiiig drop in the middle with a little elevator (but a gap you can fall down) and i was strafing shooting a zombo and i fell down the hole, and the atmosphere was so intense that i got that feeling in my legs/stomach like when you actually fall. ive been pretty addicted ever since D:. The mod is absolutely briliant, even on the simplest of maps the gameplay is briliant. Its hard to describe someone coming into your hearing range who is randomly shouting "hellooo?" into his mic trying to find some survivors, and looking for him, but then suddenly hearing a zombo growl/moan and the guy screaming down the mic as he dies. And now with simple additions like the shotgun looking like the long barelled hunting shotgun from hitman 2, and the satchel charges becoming bundles of dynamite sticks, and ofcourse the grenades becoming single sticks of dynamite. Its brilliant fun running around a corner and seeing a zombo standing there, then backing up and throwing a stick of dynamite round and seeing body parts fly around the corner.

Actually, Zombie Panic seems to work pretty well with both large and small groups.

With large groups (20+), there are more humans to defend each other against the single starting zombie. Unfortunately, that means there are more people to spread the existing ammo and weapons across. This means a fair amount of the Survivors are low on ammo, and if they spread out looking for weapons and ammo alone, (As they always seem to ), they are often swiftly slaughtered. Once two or three humans have been zombified, it gets pretty interesting, as the round hits that sweet spot of pretty even numbers of survivors and zombies. Depending on the teamwork on the Survivor side, the Survivors may hold out for awhile, pull off a victory, or getting swarmed and die horribly.

There's nothing like being holed up somewhere with 2 or 3 other Survivors, trying to hold off the zombies, and starting to run low on ammo. Imagine leaving out the back way to scout for ammo to bring back to your group. You quietly evade the zombies, and grab some ammo and bring it back to you group, arriving in time to see them get overrun and killed! You're well armed, with a lot of ammo, but you now realize that the entire map is *crawling* with zombies, and they're all coming for *you*! I've been there, and it is pretty scary.

Loaded down with ammo slows you down, but tossing ammo aside to gain speed means if you do get cornered, you could swiftly be done for.

On small games (5-8), the balance is surprisingly well maintained. There are less humans to fight the zombies, but that means there are also less zombies once people start dying. Plus, there is more ammo for the humans to share. If you've seen the tunnel battle video:

    http://zpanic.marineeater.co.uk/media/ZP-f...nnel-battle.avi

That was done with about 10 players, I think, and there was plenty going on there.

Anyway, it plays well with 5 players and up, assuming the map isn't too big, and with 20 players or more it gets crazy. Smaller maps see more immediate action, whereas larger maps see more sneaking around, suspense, and hiding from the zombie hordes.

Again, you have to play it to get a feeling for it, but we're hoping to have more videos (With updated models) done in the near future. And of course, the mod itself should be out within 4-6 weeks.

whats the melee attacks like, could a human kill a zombie if it was just him the zombie and a crowbar??? because in retrospec, the human should win obviously the zombies are faster and probably stronger but do you only have the crowbar for melee or do you have say..... a secondary attack for your guns like hit them with the butt of your gun??? secondary attack = right mouse click??

ok well answer the question an then say if my idea was good or not?? lol

not that I've played but I think any attempt at melee in any zombie game should be a death sentence... There's a reason most people didn't use the knife in RE after all

From when i last played it [ages ago, i'm an inactive PT now.. for good reason], there was a fair chance for the survivor.. Actually, the survivor had a better chance. 1 Zombo vs 1 Survivor, the Zombo would most likely lose. But that's probably changed now.. 1 vs 1 the survivor now would probably have some chance, but it's less commendable because the survivor will still get hurt, and there are usually about 3 more zombies 2 metres away and closing fast. You'll notice in the videos that the survivors, even when they pick up a gun, keep on running away from the 3 zombies or so chasing them.. it takes a while to kill a zombie, and it's even scarier when he's as fast as you are.

Edit: ^ Well there you have it. My experience was coming of course from about 3 months ago, when I last played

i suppose but i still like the idea of hacking a zombie up... every thought of putting a secret weapon on the level.. like a sword??? thats got to be good against a zombie... maube you should put a strong hidden weapon on each level.. but thats up to you to decide

alright i was only making a suggestion.... i mean you have a crowbar right which would basically be you last line of defense, so i was just trying to broaden the melee weapons or see if you were open to the idea.. but NM your obviously not

No, Zombie Panic plans on having an amazing amount of melee weaponry, i believe. However, it's just not possible to have player models in a specific map, that are not available in the game itself.

    Edit-

For example, some maps may have Baseball bats available.. while other maps may have a 2x4 plank of wood or a cricket bat. That is up to the mapper to decide what weapons he wants to make available [from the weapons already in the game].. But you cannot just decide to have, for example, a giant inflatable sex doll filled with sand as a weapon, if it's not in the game already. Speaking of which, I gotta talk to twilight....

Well, as I said, we'd like to spend more time add lots of new features, but we're running out of time, due to HL2, so we'd like to get ZP out for people to try, and give feedback on (And just have fun playing!), so we can incorporate what we learn for the HL2 version of Zombie Panic.

Remember, this mod has only been in development since May of this year. I know, I know "And it shows...".

I think you're mad to release it at the same time as GTA:SA amongst others.

On the RE front....... I use the knife more than anything else when I play CV and Nemesis. And as others have mentioned, the CC weapons in Outbreak are the shiznit.
  • AutumnTwilightAutumnTwilight Join Date: 2002-08-27 Member: 1244Members, Constellation
Well, we have several CC weapons in the works, but again, we can only do so much at once.

Never really cared too much about GTA:SA. I suppose I'm missing out....

You might not but a lot of other gamers do, I'm just giving you advance warning if the release date comes and downloads are a little slow.

Bunch of other games too. Retail Q4 is a hellish time for the modder. Not that it'll stop me from downloading ZP mind you.
