    Then the marines would have starfighters and heavy tanks to roll over the Kharaa too woo. Since the TSA focuses on small unit tactics that are extremely cost effective, the marines here could be the government and corporation armies that were utterly annihilated in the first few months of the infestations.

    It's funny how that this post has skeptics with replies like, "no way, server couldn't manage that... not even in the future." The fact that we went from Atari Pong to Half-life 2 in what, less than 50 years... that's pretty incredible. And Sony is already trying to develop to controllers for PS3 that will measure your heartrate so online opponents could hear your breathing so they can have an easier time locating you. Give it another 30 years, 400 man servers supporting large maps will be a joke.

    512 is better than youd think... in call of duty i played on 60 man servers and got a 30 - 50 ping =D

    diff game, but just saying. and now the general public can get 1mb and 2mb quite easily if we are willing to pay, just give it a few years until most people are on 512k and 1mb instead of 56k, and by that time servers will be a hell of a lot more powerfull, so 200 man servers running quite smoothly aint that far off

    normal ns mode wouldnt quite work. if your aliens and your waiting for 1 res it could take you a long time.

    It would work better for combat.......let the flames begin.

    you could have up to a max of say 10 coms, each could be able to do different things, some work on rt's, some work on supplying medpacks, ammo, weapons etc, some on building the other buildings. just an idea =P

    actully a this might be a better idea... have the map split up into different sections, and there is a com im command of each bit. this means that that com can only build structures in that section, and if a marine is in that area and asks for a medpack/ammo/rt, then only that com will see the message

    As someone has already stated, think outside the box. More than 3/4ths of the people on this thread have already proven that they should have no say in the development of a video game, or anything for that matter.     Seriously. Do you people actually think they'd just directly port the entire game from the half-life engine to Source, and expect huge server games to automatically work? Of course not. I'd be frickin dissapointed if they did that, because that means that they didn't explore the design space the new engine gave them. The res system, evolution system, hive system, chamber system, upgrade system, hell probably even the commander system would all be revamped COMPLETELY if the devs wanted NS2 to use 100-200 player servers. Saying that it can't be done, or that you'd need like 200 res towers on every map is simply retarded. Worst case scenario, they just boost the number of tics/second for giving res, but I'm sure there are dozens of more elegant solutions possible. For example, no more individual res towers, instead entire res complexes are built over crater-sized geysers of various natural resources, indeed maybe *gasp* more than one kind of resource. Rip off of Starcraft? No, not really, unless every other RTS game ever created is also a rip off....

    back onn, as somebody else said, TSA marines are trained to be in small squads no bigger than 15, and due to the skulks problem with the SKY texture (its the fact that he can walk on sunshine, upside down) make it impossable for outdoor enviroments, as for an indoor enviroment, think this, why did BF1942 not have much in there houses? its because its an outdoor fighting game, stressing outdoor, if your gonna make a huge indoor comples, your gonna need a lot more than a bed and desk in every so odd room, infestation, also counters this idea, as for veachles, unless you get this tiny go-cart in there, its a highly unlikely thing.
    ehum, i dont think it will happen, the current maps are just too small, and makeing a large comples, it just too much.

    solution: either HL2's skybox system wont allow walking on it, or *gasp* disable wallwalking on sky texture

    :edit: and im sure that in the case of a planetary battle, the TSA would send in more than 15 people
