I fail to see why everyone continues to claim that peewees will so drastically kill the HL engine. I've been using custom everything (all high poly) ever since i installed NS and found this forum, and i've never noticed any significant fps drop. I'm happily using these peewees provided by rufio and not one smidgen of performance decrease is noted, and i made a point of playing a fair bit of NS this evening.
And i'm certainly not running anything drastic hardware-wise. Pretty modest system actually. I think a little more credit is due our much used engine <!--emo&:)--><img src='http://www.unknownworlds.com/forums/html//emoticons/smile-fix.gif' border='0' style='vertical-align:middle' alt='smile-fix.gif' /><!--endemo-->

ok then. go onto a 32 player combat server, and sit in the marine start, you cannot tell me you dont get an fps drop.

The recoloured v_ models are awesome, though I think I'll stick to the normal Peewees.. To be honest, a step up from 96 polys to 2155 in a model is a bit.. too high.

Run it through the direct x mesh tools like i did with the lr300 and you can bump it down to 700 without losing quality...

    Damn noobs and your omgomogoghaiquality=slowpc...

that's actually the best idea i've heard yet, to use directx tools..

but seriously, you hardly ever see the peewees that clearly in game so i think its a waste to have them in the first place (aside from defaults) but whatever, use what you wish. i still say good job on this, i like it much.

if u want pee-wees just hack the skin on to the default ?
  • WindburnWindburn Join Date: 2003-08-02 Member: 18711Members, Constellation
Hehe Bashh, I think it's just a fad really - the idea of having high poly everything- some get it, some don't <!--emo&:p--><img src='http://www.unknownworlds.com/forums/html//emoticons/tounge.gif' border='0' style='vertical-align:middle' alt='tounge.gif' /><!--endemo-->
    - And cooks, as stupid as this is to continue, i'd just like to mention that on the ordinary cable speeds we get in australia, we don't have 32 player servers- so i have no doubt what you're saying is correct- but it's all good on 24 player servers that I use- and that's all that matters.

Back on topic, if any of you want to try some origins, give -.5 -1 -1.5 a whirl, i think it helps to bring out the detail in the model and the skin a little more effectively (makes it look like it can pack a punch more too!)

Export your model as a direct x file, then import it with the direct x mesh tools and move the slider. Instant low poly. Good for optomizing to a limit, too.

In an attempt to re-rail this thread I'd like to say this.

Amazing work REDDmonkey, I remember you coming on here not to long ago and asking around about modeling, and already your making incredibly eye-pleasing works. It comes together so well with Drealit's outstanding skin.

Additionally thank you to ReFleX for responding to all the request/complaints.

This is the kind of stuff that puts all of us who cannot model (but soooo wish we could) to shame.

Anyhow I for one would really like to see what you guys could do with the rest of the NS armament, never liked much of the other weapon releases, even if they were high quality.

Max has more goodies though, which makes it much easier to make good looking models. Or atleast faster.

mm, keep making these just the way you are, they convert easily into iron sights, which i have decided i want to try out... unfortunantly all my non mg + pistol arent origined right to begin with to turn into iron sights very well..

i dont mean the sights where the crosshairs are where its all ugly and block view, i mean down a little, where its nifty
