Just some long-overdue good cheer at the manual-writing team.
Even though the n00bs never RTFM. Sigh.

Excellent work. And some funny stuff too.

Yeah I agree completely with that. The manual was great.

I especially like the fact that it contained the backstory and the eye witness reports and so on. That greatly enhanced the overall mood of it all. And it looks nice too.

Yet another detail that makes this mod not feel like a mod at all, but rather a full game by itself. It actually feels more professional than a lot of commercial games out there.

The first TSA encounter with the aliens occurred aboard the Mongol's Sanjii mining facility. The tattered voice comm logs they extracted from the command network had one word that stood out, used again and again – "Kharaa!" "Kharaa!" Later, it was understood that this means "Watch out!" in Mongolian. By then, it had stuck.

Fam designed the visual aspects of the manual. It was written by Natural Selection's head writer, Jeff Paris. Several people were involved in editing it as well, including Grendel and his housemate. The full list of credits can be found here.

Agreed, the manual really gives you a feeling of purpose when first playing the game. Thumbs up all around

meh, oko I do love the manual, and the flavor text is great
the fact that Onos is actualy based off of our bad puns, the explenations of FF, the whats his face point system, etc

however I do have one gripe, we sorta need a second manual, one that has all of the correct information, just layyed out

there is the fact that alot of tool tips are wrong,

QUOTE

footage exists of Fades disappearing from one side of a wall, and appearing on the other

basicaly we have the hard info for all of the marine stuff, but none of the info for the aliens, thus creatting some problems for new players

Agreed. The manual is an incredible piece of work. I still can't get over how comprehensive the thing is, explaining every bit of detail in the NS world. And yes, those alien Encounters and Observations are great.

The thing is more entertaining than most friggen books.

The purpose of the manual is to tell how to play the game under the guise of a story and military briefing. The original Halflife manual was sort of like that. To understand the manual you have to be in that mindset, not expecting a textbook answer and pretty much having to understand it from a storybook point of view. I agree there should probably be a second manual explaining how to play the game from a practical perspective, rather than having to decypher it from a fictional perspective. I really love the manual though. It's an original piece of work.

But semi-misleading methinks. I kept thinking parasite made marines permanently visible as in even after death.
