As a long time smoker I feel my view is slightly skewed.

But anyway, I do realise what smoking can do to your body as its emblazoned on every packet I buy *glances down* SMOKING CAN CAUSE A SLOW AND PAINFUL DEATH *nods* But the word I rely on I guess is the "can"
Recent studies show that only 15% of smokers get lung cancer although ~90% of lung cancer sufferers were smokers. The same study also shows that differant peoples lungs react differantly to smoke inhalation, some obviously react by encouraging lung cancer but some peopls lungs actually produce chemicals that combat cancer in reaction to smoke inhalation. Interesting stuff.

Back to the point, I understand that smoking is most likely bad for me, and I do feel myself short of breath after running a metre or two, I also understand that some people do not appreciate people smoking around them which I respect if they ask me not to smoke. For example when I lived with my parents I always smoked outside due to having four younger siblings who I wouldn't want to inflict passive smoking on and a father with throat problems.
What can I say, its an addiction.

I apologize in advance for going Off-Topic for a moment, but even I, as a non-smoker, am bothered by those messages. They're simply annoying. I heard that sales for cigarette etuis have skyrocketed since they started appearing. If I had the courage to start an enterprise like that, I'd take a more humorous approach: Stickers with humorous/satirical comments to paste over the ones on your box. For example:<ul><li>Smoking may cause your eyes to water and sting to the point of crying "MOMMY!"</li><li>Smoking may cause you to wheeze, cough 'n sputter.</li><li>Smoking may cause social contact! GASP!</li><li>Or my favourite: Smoking is like the devil! <b>SMOKING IS LIKE THE DEVIL!!</b></li></ul>Think people'd bother buying these?

lol very funny fighter, althought those messages are quite funny so it doesn't matter if there - there or not because people who already smoke probably ignore em anyways

Whatever you do, don't do chew. It's probably the most repulsive thing I've ever seen.

thats right things that are sold as "Tobacco smoking excessorys" aren't for smoking tabacco!

Granted most people smoke other things out of glass pipes [chronic being the main one you and I are thinking about] but that still doesn't mean you can't smoke tobacco out of a glass piece. If you really want to go nuts with smoking the tobacco, just get a fat hookah and have fun with that

Well after taking classes on this and asking my professor, she said that no matter WHAT you smoke, the carbon monoxide kills your lungs, causes tar and mucus to block up your esophogus, and causes your lungs to come closer on the bottom parts, and if your mucus goes down your lungs too much, collapse. so yes smoking is bad no matter what.

Its probably a leagal thing. most headshops try and pass themselves off as just a normal smoke shop so the police don't come and shut them down. Thats why I can't buy rolling papers at the local headshop.

Of course you <i>could</i> smoke tobacco in them but I don't know why you would want to.

Well that's wonderful and all, but you forgot an important detail: how much does it take to do any of that? Just about anything can kill you in excess, often in quite painful or otherwise horrifying ways.

The answer, of course, is complicated, but I'm pretty sure it's been covered in the last few pages.

Coming from France where smoking is practically a national sport, I have to say I absolutely hate it.

I see no reason whatsoever why anyone would want to smoke. It ruins your body in practically every possible way: your skin turns dry and pallid, your teeth go yellow, your stamina is seriously dimished, your lungs rot black, it also affects your brain cells and not to mention the numerous forms of cancer that can result from it. Its odor is repugnant and follows you around like a horrid doppelganger and all those in your path have to suffer it. It brings nothing positive, no "cool" factor, no "buzz" and perhaps a serious addiction that can follow you for the rest of your life.

Not only that but it is a very egotistical habit that affects everyone around you. Second-hand smoke that others receive is even worse. Those who have chosen not to smoke should not have to suffer the decisions of braindead individuals. I can respect those who will smoke as long as its far from me, in their homes or designated areas.

The only positive thing I take out of smoking is that it contributes to a better gene pool and means more money for me since so much taxes go on cigarettes. (The revenue it generates for the French state is positively enormous)

granted you do have a point but the smoke just flies around in the air so even if somepeople didn't smoke near your the likely hood is that it'll end up affecting you in someway, especially as you said alot of france are smokers meaning that theres alot of smoke flying around
