I love Steam and have complete faith in it. I'll be buying the box, though, for the same reason others have stated: I want the manual, the disk, etc. I've already got the game via Steam, though, so I'll just activate it and hop in.

I do hope they have great descriptions and stuff in the HL2 manual. I know the original HL manual was lacking from what I remember.

I mean, with CDs I can install and play it on any computer I come across (assuming the computer will run it and I have the CDs) Steam.. Well, Its on MY computer.. the problem here would be if I'm not currently at said computer...

You could download the tiny steam installer on anyone's computer, login as you, and download HL2 at their place.

I'm getting it through ATI Voucher, although if I wasn't already getting it for free I would definately go for the box, because I love the sexy box, and manuals, etc. Maybe I'll pick up the collectors edition for extra sexiness.

I'm guessing that the largest percentage will be buying the box and installing through Steam. When you stop and think about it, though, that's pretty much the worst-case scenario for Valve. The whole point of Steam is skipping the publisher, getting the game directly to consumers and getting all the $$ back themselves. But buying retail means Vivendi still gets a cut, and activating through Steam means you're still using Valve's bandwidth unnecessarily. Bummer. ^^

If I haven't died of old age by the time the game is out, I'll most likely purchase it through Steam.

Not 100% certain yet (who knows). However, if this rumor that Vivendi may consider 'sitting on' Half-Life2, then I definitely will be going the Steam route as a form of boycott.

Buying the Collectors Edition of the Box, but pre-loading on Steam and activating with the Box's key.

Feels more like "if HL2 goes retail" atm :/

Buying box and installing from CD. I can wait 10 minutes, I (and most likely everyone on this forum) have already waited a year anyway, 10 minutes isn't going to be the end of the world.

It'll be MUCH longer than 10 minutes.

...I'm guessing 20 minimum. Max of an hour.

There may also be one of Alyx, and another of the G-Man.

Better than HL one, PASSED .

I'll be getting the box for the stated reasons and probably activate through steam since I've already been through the process of preloading. That's on my laptop though, I'll probably do the old-school installation on my desktop computer

To the person who voted " HL2 suxx0rz, kekeke", I'm just curious as to why. Please elaborate.

They did it probably just to be an idiot and mess with the results.

I'm getting mine through Steam. ATi for the win.

Definitely retail with a nice box. You'll miss out on actual paper copies of things if you get it over Steam. And plus there's supposed to be some special edition, so if it has what I want in it, I'll get that.

You can't beat the box and jewel case.

Definitely picking it up at GameStop on preorder.

Preloading the full game will likely be possible before I can buy it in the local store, so I expect it will be faster than installing off the CDs.

10 minutes HL2 which most likely can't be much bigger than 3 or 4 CD's? I doubt that. UT2004 takes 10 minutes to install and that's SIX.

20 minutes? It's the most unpopular EB in town (seems like there's no other gamers in range ofi t), fairly small, and still gets brand new games in shipment.

    Best. Store. Ever.

You're allowed to back-up the HL2 .gcfs, so technically you could buy it off Steam and then make back-up CDs for personal use.
