Hoping To Find Sense In The Senseless

First off, I know this is a game and all. And I know not a lot of things don't make sense in it. Like a giant space rhino climbing ladders, etc. And yes, I'm willing to accept all this and continue playing.

But, can someone explain this to me...

A skulk for example, is a quad-pedal space predator. We can assume it brings down enemies/prey with it's large teeth and powerful jaws. Like most creatures of this physiology it's fairly agile, quick, and responsive. However, although this game is called Natural Selection, every skulk on the alien team seems to be individuals that natural selection would weed out. Variation doesn't seem to exist. As, this skulk can only close and open it jaws so much before it runs out of adrenaline/energy/whatever.

On the other hand, the clumsy bi-pedal human marines can jump around endlessly in their heavy armor requiring no adrenaline or stamina...

anyone? honestly, anyone? this isn't even a suggestion. But if you can imagine that a creature that doesn't exist to have a limited amount of energy, why can't you realize that an existing creature has stamina and that stamina is reduced when geared up with several pounds of armor and gear?

its not the same thing. stamina to aliens is ammo.
if there was stamina for marines, it'd be movement.

Well lets see... marines in their shiny HA have nano-bots inside doing most of the work.

Agreed. There should be vegie packs, increasing marine jump height

Oh wow, these will both go nicely with my <b>SPAM</b>.

To answer your original question, one of the early answers suits best. It's a game I'm afraid, and we have to check reality with playability. <!--emo&:)--><img src='http://www.unknownworlds.com/forums/html//emoticons/smile-fix.gif' border='0' style='vertical-align:middle' alt='smile-fix.gif' /><!--endemo-->

Oni use their mouth to latch onto the ladder and slowly move themselves up. Or something.

When a skulk bites down, it's not like when you bite down on a peice of over-cooked broccoli (haha!), it's like when you're hanging on a peice of rope over a pit of hungry sharks using only your teeth.. thus, energy. Or something.

HA has motors and nanites and stuff to help him move.. and the marines are well-trained.. plus they've got nanites to carry away the Lactic acid and help reinforce muscles, tendons, and joints.

    Neener.

Yeah nanite is the answer to all question (or most).

but, most of the time Gameplay > Physics, biology, and most science.

What about the bacteria? That's the aliens' nanites!

    Nanites need to be nerfed.

No way! Oni use their wannabe nipples on their tummy to grap the ladders.

Bacterium's main purpose is to make that awesome but wholely useless infestation stuff on the walls.

Also, HAs have HYDRAULICS. Ch-choong. They've got little vents on their boots!

This is ridiculous......It's a game people. Not real life. If you're starting to make connections between NS and real life, and debating the physiology of a skulk...get off the computer. Now. For your own health, well-being, and social life, get the **** outside, and stop pondering over this game for a while.

i note that every 3 minuits of constant chewing my mouth gets tired, thus i wait 15 seconds for resting purposes and the like.... the skulks have no training, the marines have boot camp, stress test, and hmg's.

    its a game nonetheless...

First point is well....yeah....it's a game.

2nd point about marines being able to hop around madly: intense training, armor made from lightweight composite materials, and nanites. Heavy armor has power assist systems (all that sound that HAs make when they move comes from somewhere).

    3rd point, skulks are furry puppies and not ruthless killers. <!--emo&:p--><img src='http://www.unknownworlds.com/forums/html//emoticons/tounge.gif' border='0' style='vertical-align:middle' alt='tounge.gif' /><!--endemo-->

Edit: Also notice that marines can't bunnyhop, and skulks and other cute kharra lifeforms can. They can just jump on and on tirelessly while marines need like a half second of rest before jumping again, else suffer from extreme speed reduction.

I hate every game with stamina lost from movement...

    fun > realism

The explanation is nanites and fun > realism. I play DoD the days I want realism. (Which are few, very few)

a... we dont shoot poisionous gas and rockets of stomach acid with our "stamina"

b... marines would suck to play and be a little less fun

c... why would you say that
