My "please God Let Me Have A Wow Beta" Thread
Okay, a lot of people probably know (or not) that Blizzard screwed up. A lot of their beta emails that were SUPPOSED to go out to people instead went to people that ALREADY have beta accounts. Obviously there's little point in running two beta accounts for WoW at the same time. I played in the Stress Test and have been utterly addicted to the forums, pretending I can post. Every day I check them looking at all the little threads making mental inputs on stuff, even though I can't. I practically come home and ask my roomate every day "Is WoW out yet?" D:
So if any of you are in the beta and somehow got a second invite, or if you got an invite and don't even want it anymore, oh please please bless me with the gift of the gods. :'( :'( :'(

Hey hey get in line <!--emo&:D--><img src='http://www.unknownworlds.com/forums/html//emoticons/biggrin-fix.gif' border='0' style='vertical-align:middle' alt='biggrin-fix.gif' /><!--endemo-->
Surprisingly though, I don't think anyone on these forums was even in the first phase of beta... unless they were honoring the NDA at the time. *shrug*
Krunk@stopjohn.com PLZ! D:
Actually, 1) They're going for $300+ and 2) The people there are getting ripped off since people have bought those, then changed their passwords before they get the accounts, and 3) Blizzard has shut a lot of those accounts down.
Note(dit): I probably won't use it for anything more than proof to myself that all this is, is a bad looking RPG with gameplay the same as...every other MMO out there, but the only reason for hype is Blizzard, the company that hasn't done what people keep giving them credit for in 8+ years now(aka, revolutionizing. Sorry, WC3 wasn't that great, and D2 was a over-ballyhood expansion IMO).
I entered another one about a week and a half ago...

{Edit}
I have the Stress Test beta updated with their latest 680 MB patch. I cant log in (<!--emo&:(--><img src='http://www.unknownworlds.com/forums/html//emoticons/sad-fix.gif' border='0' style='vertical-align:middle' alt='sad-fix.gif' /><!--endemo-->) but from what I can tell the buttons look nicer.
I'm still addicted to WoW. <!--emo&:(--><img src='http://www.unknownworlds.com/forums/html//emoticons/sad-fix.gif' border='0' style='vertical-align:middle' alt='sad-fix.gif' /><!--endemo-->
Me too!

Anyone who likes WW2 games (ie: you) has no right whatsoever to complain about other games being 'run of the mill' and 'overhyped'. <!--QuoteEnd--></td></tr></table><div class='postcolor'><!--QuoteEEnd-->
<b>WHAM</b>
If I can't get into a beta, I'll have to wait for a free trial, I guess. WoW looks awesome, but I can't go for a subscription without trying it first.
One day is all it takes to get hooked. I know. I was in the stress test. I'm craving for the beta. I NEED it. And yet I cant have it, not yet anyway. GIVE ME WOW!! NEEDS IT I DO! NEEEDS ITT~!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
Let me put it this way.
Me Before WoW ---> "OMGZ TEH MMO GAMEZ SUXORXZ OLO!"
Me After WoW ---> "GIMME WoW OMGZ NEED WoW! MUST H4X BLIZZ4RDZ0R!!!"
Of course this assumes that I speak in all caps, have extremely bad speech-grammar and speak in l33t as well...
Honestly, the WoW stress test was just a taste. I even d0nced when they extended and I STILL didnt have enough. The only time I've really been hanging for a game in the same way was when I was playing Star Control 2 for the first time a few months back and even then this feeling does not compare. I keep thinking back to my experiences from the Stress test, thinking of things that were broken (hey it WAS a beta) things that could be added that would be awesome (such as the blood elves as a playable race) and things that I could have done but didnt do, or things that I did do and remember with a smile.
I've never played an MMO game before and I honestly think that WoW will be my sole exception. It's just simply awesome. I cant even find the proper words to describe it.
I got my account from a friend that got into the beta and later quit, he said it was a lot of fun, while I'm not too big on mmorpgs but there's a serious lack of decent games right now :/
It's just a brilliant game. The pieces fit together so well, and it's laid out in such a way that you're really pulled whole-hog into the world. And of course, the entire thing is wrapped in the beautifully stylized Warcraft world, as it looks in Warcraft 3. Vibrant colors, breathtaking vistas, monumental architecture. Everything is just a little larger than life, just a little surreal. It's the Blizzard version of high fantasy, and it's simply gorgeous.
Gameplay is tight, too. There are tons of different kinds of quests - courier, item retrieval, monster-killing, exploration, diplomatic, tradeskill, class, race, the works. There are quest "arcs" that include as many as five or more pieces before you're finished, and each piece may grant you a reward leading up to the final payoff. For instance, I (a paladin) met a Paladin Trainer in Stormwind who told me to seek out a certain paladin in Ironforge. I did, and she asked me to speak with her husband - he was nearby with a priest, and told me that he and a friend had fought a group of Dark Iron Dwarves and his friend had fallen.
I then had to carry a lifestone to the scene of the battle and resurrect his friend, who seemed surprised that I had been able to bring him back. He told me more of what the husband had - that the Dark Irons were planning an attack, but they needed proof in the form of secret documents that some of the dwarves might be carrying. I killed a Dark Iron dwarf and found a document, which I returned to the resurrected Paladin. He told me to take the plans back to his friend in Ironforge, who was thrilled that I had succeeded. Finally I spoke with his wife, the paladin who had originally started the whole thing. She told me I had proven myself by using the lifestone to raise the other paladin... and as a reward, granted me a spell of Resurrection.
That's the kind of thing I'm talking about. And it happens ALL THE TIME! A woman looking for her ring thinks a kid living across the way stole it, but he won't talk till he gets a meat pie. The woman who lost the ring bakes great pies, but she needs ingredients. Once you've killed some boars and taken the meat to the woman and taken the pie to the boy, he tells you that one of the kobolds in the nearby mine has the ring. So you take out the kobold and finally return the ring to the woman.
On top of that, there are larger arcs throughout each area. Elwynn Forest, the human start area, is plagued by Defias bandits, and murlocs are encroaching from the east. A group of gnolls has just crossed the river in the southwest, too, and set up a series of camps. The Dun Morogh area around Ironforge, where gnomes and dwarves start, is still sorting out a Trogg infestation, which was responsible for the destruction of Gnomergan (sp?), the former Gnomish capital city which has been destroyed. On the borderlands to the east and in Loch Modan, Dark Iron Dwarves are becoming a problem.
Then there's the PvP aspect. Blizzard has done a great job making the two sides thoroughly at odds with each other. For one, you can't speak to the other faction unless you learn their language! Someone who *can* understand the opposing faction's language can become very useful in a raid, as they can keep an ear open for enemy tactics and such. You can't add members of the other faction to your buddy list, either (though you can /whisper them). And there are so-called "battleground" areas where you are automatically PvP (even on non-PvP servers). These areas usually contain one Horde and one Alliance town, and quests within the area generally target the enemy (e.g. "kill X enemy NPC" or "scout out such-and-such in the enemy town"). They are also more lucrative than quests in "safe" areas.
Finally, there's the world itself; it's HUGE. I reached L16 by the end of the stress test, and I had only near-completed two areas (Elwynn and Dun Morogh, both L1-10 areas). There were probably a few quests I missed. I had done less than half of the quests in Loch Modan and Westfall (L10-20), and explored perhaps 75% of the former and <50% of the latter.
I had run through but not explored or quested in Duskwood and the marshes north of Dun Morogh (L20-30 areas). I had found Menethil Harbor and taken the boat to Theramore Island (home of Jaina Proudmoore) and to Darkshore, where I did 3-5 quests and rode a hippogriff to Teldrassil. I did not quest in Darnassus; I really just stayed long enough to get a picture of myself next to an Ancient of War. Lastly, I had done 3-5 quests in and explored about 10% of the Redridge Mountains. All in all, I'd say I'd explored <25% of Azeroth and <5% of Kalimdor. I never visited Lordaeron.
There's so much more to go into, but I've talked enough. Suffice to say it's a really, really interesting game. In my 10 days of playing I was never frustrated or annoyed with an in-game mechanic; not even ONCE. It's fun, engaging, beautiful... it's awesome. I'll be getting the Collector's Edition.
