You're both right. This is not really a discussion, more of a suggestion. And yes, 2.0 offers a lot of new nifty features. I don't know why ns.org isn't running it, but I guess it may have something to do with not wanting to go through the hazzle of updating, or maybe waiting until the version is final to avoid bugs. (I think, although I'm not sure as I have been unable to find something as simple as a VERSION NUMBER on the jumbled mess that is www.invisionboard.com, that version 2.0 is still in beta state.)
Update: And right after I hit "submit", I get the bright idea to simply check their news. Turns out 2.0.0 Final was released yesterday.
IPB updates have the fun tendency of creating errors that bring our userdatabase within an inch of its existence. We're thus very cautious with updating it and wait until we can be sure it'll be worth the effort.

I can understand where the admin team is comming from here, remember the last forum update? If you do you should remember the huge stock avatars, and if you look around the forums you can still find them.

If this doesn't work as desired, you restore the backup and move on as if nothing happened. lm.org made the transition ok, I don't remember any bugs really. Then again, we haven't customised our forums to the same extent as ns.org has.
I'm all for it: it means the boards will be down for at least a day. Thusly, I don't have to listen to you pukes and your rampaging angst for an entire day! Every time we upgrade, it's like a mini-christmas ball of joy!

Back on-topic: can anyone link me to a changelog with 2.0's improvements? I'm surprised I haven't found it yet on the official website or through google searches.
[edit]Jimmeh, please read the topic. I"m asking for IVB's 2.0 changelog, not NS' changelog.

I can't find an official changelog, but here's what I can remember (apologies if any of this stuff didn't actually change, but was just hidden better in the old version):
-Multi-quoting feature -Users can be assigned to multiple user groups -"Snapback" feature when you quote a post that automatically links to that post with a little image in yours -Little button on each post that contains the direct link to that post -Visibility feature - a whole thread, or individual posts, can be made invisible to normal users -Multiple attachments to a post possible (if the admins allow it, of course) -Admins can customize what types of files are allowed to be attached to posts -Admins can now schedule tasks to be performed on the board (once, or at regular intervals, or a specific time) -"Email error logs" added to board logs -Front admin page is prettier, with quick links to edit members and various other things -Skin selector at the bottom of the index page -The "Lo-Fi Version". This feature allows a very stripped-down version (no skin, no images except for emoticons) of the forum that allows for very low-bandwidth browsing. The lo-fi version unfortunately does not currently support posting, only reading. -New Upload permissions in member groups - global upload limit for a member in that group, whether to allow PM attachments -"Can Use [doHTML] tag" changed to "Can Use HTML" in group options -"Can Bypass the Bad Word Filter" option added to group options
Plus while the ns.org skin does need updating i have a friend who has made images that fit in well with the existing theme. So if you would like these images instead if havign to make them yourselves (they are identical) please give me a pm and i will send them to you
Also, you can make custom bbcode now... I installed 2.0 on my home machine running apache php5 mysql and all that jazz and was looking @ the admin pannel, noticed custom BB code...
Here's my attempt to re-skin 2.0 It sucks rite now, the css colors are imported from the ns forums as well as the images, the html is kind of screned up though.
Can you release it when you're done ? <!--emo&:D--><img src='http://www.unknownworlds.com/forums/html//emoticons/biggrin-fix.gif' border='0' style='vertical-align:middle' alt='biggrin-fix.gif' /><!--endemo-->

Me likey-2.0! Me likey-2.0!!
You're a big boy now Rob. Stop.
lookey
Again I ask, is the user table structured any different? Cause if its not you can just back it up and copy it back...
But surely there's an upgrade script anyway?
Nope, it belongs to the NS Devs, if they want it.
They decide if they want to release it or not.
