<div class="IPBDescription">MICROSOFT WANTS TO FLY ME OUT FOR AN INT</div> ERVIEW!!!
I just got this email a few minutes ago, I thought I had completely bombed this conversation at the job fair today!
<!--QuoteBegin--></div><table border='0' align='center' width='95%' cellpadding='3' cellspacing='1'><tr><td><b>QUOTE</b> </td></tr><tr><td id='QUOTE'><!--QuoteEBegin-->Hi Ryan,
I wanted to follow up with you after you conversation today with Shaheen at the TOC. Shaheen really enjoyed his conversation with you. Microsoft would like to invite you to fly out to interview for internship opportunities. In order to match you and your resume to groups that you would enjoy and be successful interviewing with, I need you to send me an updated soft copy of your resume and answer the following questions to give me a sense of what projects you would find most interesting and appropriate for your background. Your choices will give guidance but I can't guarantee placement in any specific groups. We have limited opportunities in certain technologies and locations including the Bay Area.
I look forward to hearing from you!
1) When would you prefer to interview and when do you envision making a decision on a full-time or internship opportunity? We traditionally like to have an answer within 2 weeks for full-time positions. This is flexible depending on your school's individual career services policies.
2) What types of technology are you interested in working with: (Shaheen mentioned Operating Systems)
(stack rank as many as 5 interests)
Consumer applications
Operating systems
Networking (in what capacity?)
Database
Graphics
Web related technologies (specify front end or back end)
Low level server technologies
Developer tools
User Interfaces
Other (Please specify)
3) Who do you envision using the technologies that you would be working on?
4) Tell me which Microsoft Products you find interesting – I would like you to put them in stack rank order. In order to do this, you need to visit our website at <a href='http://www.microsoft.com/college/fyp_ourbus.mspx' target='_blank'>http://www.microsoft.com/college/fyp_ourbus.mspx</a>
5) For which product or product areas do you think your skill set is most applicable and why?
Logistical information:
1) When is your graduation date? May 2006?
2) Are you looking for full time or internship opportunities? Intern, correct?
3) Are you any of the following: a US citizen or national, permanent resident, applicant for legalization or amnesty, asylee or refugee? (Are you certified to work in the US or do we need to sponsor a work visa for you?)
Thanks for taking the time to send me this information. I realize it is a lot of work up front, but this will ensure that you and Microsoft find the best match for each other! I look forward to hearing from you.

I haven't even been able to think about it yet. I just twitch danced around the room for 15 minutes after firing of garbled ims to my friends that are still up. Probably either OS or graphics, we'll see. I've still got homework tonight and there's no way I'm going to be able to think straight! <!--emo&:0--><img src='http://www.unknownworlds.com/forums/html//emoticons/wow.gif' border='0' style='vertical-align:middle' alt='wow.gif' /><!--endemo--> <!--emo&:)--><img src='http://www.unknownworlds.com/forums/html//emoticons/smile-fix.gif' border='0' style='vertical-align:middle' alt='smile-fix.gif' /><!--endemo--> <!--emo&:)--><img src='http://www.unknownworlds.com/forums/html//emoticons/smile-fix.gif' border='0' style='vertical-align:middle' alt='smile-fix.gif' /><!--endemo-->
FIX IT FIX IT FIX IT
They need somebody competent <!--emo&:p--><img src='http://www.unknownworlds.com/forums/html//emoticons/tounge.gif' border='0' style='vertical-align:middle' alt='tounge.gif' /><!--endemo-->
Good work in any case.. I assume you're going to take the job? You can always split off and go make your own game company afterwards <!--emo&;)--><img src='http://www.unknownworlds.com/forums/html//emoticons/wink-fix.gif' border='0' style='vertical-align:middle' alt='wink-fix.gif' /><!--endemo-->

Well we'll see if they offer me one. (Yes, Microsoft has the money to fly people cross country and not hire them <!--emo&:)--><img src='http://www.unknownworlds.com/forums/html//emoticons/smile-fix.gif' border='0' style='vertical-align:middle' alt='smile-fix.gif' /><!--endemo-->)
The only way I would even consider turning down an offer from microsoft is if I get an offer from nVidia, and then it will be a very tough decision. But if I get to that point, I'll be in an absolutely great position.
This sooooo far exceeds my expectations going into today <!--emo&:)--><img src='http://www.unknownworlds.com/forums/html//emoticons/smile-fix.gif' border='0' style='vertical-align:middle' alt='smile-fix.gif' /><!--endemo-->
This is just for a summer internship. And they have housing for summer interns I believe.
... "A Little Google Later"...
So this internship, if you go, would pretty much just be a potential doorway to the wonderful world of debugging code for microsoft? [<!--emo&;)--><img src='http://www.unknownworlds.com/forums/html//emoticons/wink-fix.gif' border='0' style='vertical-align:middle' alt='wink-fix.gif' /><!--endemo-->]
And when you get to Microsoft, find out if they really are working on a way to transfer Bill Gates' consciousness into a cybernetic robot.
It's already been done... <!--emo&::marine::--><img src='http://www.unknownworlds.com/forums/html//emoticons/marine.gif' border='0' style='vertical-align:middle' alt='marine.gif' /><!--endemo-->
<img src='http://www.pandu.org/Pandu-Jitu/04/bill_borg.jpg' border='0' alt='user posted image' />
Just in case you get face to face with Mr. Gates.
Congrats, it's not often people get to work for an evil empire <!--emo&:D--><img src='http://www.unknownworlds.com/forums/html//emoticons/biggrin-fix.gif' border='0' style='vertical-align:middle' alt='biggrin-fix.gif' /><!--endemo-->
So my advice, don't make fun of microsoft during the microsoft intership interview.
Soon they shall fall, like oh so many houses of cards before them
my friend said he broke bills glasses and now he is making a $500,000 a year...
hit the gym dude.. i hear bill is cycling stereroids, testosterone and hormones... the guy is an animal
and if you do get the internship, i'm only ~4 hours (drive) south, and we'll have a LAN!!!
Between the two of you, form a covert diumvirate; and see to it that you carefully assasinate members of the <s>senate</s> executive board. Accumulate your influence and give the pretense that as successor to the throne, you will empower the executive board over the unruly white collar class. If they're on to you, Kill Bill, but before you do that, take the red pill so you don't simply become the 'New Bill', rather you retain all your facilities. Backstab Monse, then live happily ever after as you make your gradual, yet inevitable triumph over the Internet.
Just beware the Ides of March...
<i>It was worth it.</i>

Actually the people who write the low level parts of the OS (kernel and such) are very competent. Unfortuanatly they don't get much say in what they can and can't do with it. For instance, if a program isn't compatable with some changes they made, they have to WRITE SPECIAL CASES INTO THE OS to handle it. Case in point: SimCity (the original), at one point it was broken, this was called to the kernel guys attention and special code was written to work around A BUG IN SIMCITY (seriously, the game used memory after it was freed for christ sake, thats like, the biggest programming no-no ever). Similarly things are specially coded into the APIs to work around new incompatabilities with older versions of MSOffice. Seriously, doing this kind of stuff in an open source kernel would get you hung, of course open source guys are used to recompiling everything whenever a new version of anything is released anyway...
Anyways, good luck moultano.

I wonder if you say "Windows ME" do they just break down crying and agree with you?
