if you don't watch of anime, don't post
In response to http://www.unknownworlds.com/forums/in...showtopic=80934, I'm curious of the people who have watched anime, what are your favorites.

for me...

series (no order cause it's too hard to choose):
Trigun (Vash the Stampede)
Inuyasha
Wolf's Rain
Witch Hunter Robin
Cowboy Beebop <-- funny name, kick **** show

Kenshin is honorary mention. And maybe some of the Gundam Wing stuff or Shaft. There are too many Anime with stupid characters (literally) and a lot of weak plots. There are also to much "uber power" stuff which ends up nerfing anything normal, including the plot. Oh Golden Boy is very funny btw, recommended especially for High Schoolers.

movies (haven't seen enough to have a ranking but I can list ones i liked):
Samurai X - ok not as much action but the art is phemoninal and the plot is sad; bloody murder with swords never looked so beautiful
Princess Mononoke - the characters are nicely done, gotta love those little bobble-head dudes

Things I hate:
Pokemon <-- this isn't anime so stop calling it that. It's just called crap.
Yu-Gi-Yo <-- same as above; Magic the Gathering rip off on the card game too.
Dragon Ball Z <-- "I got powers soooo big they--" kills audience, sorry but too much super-sayan stuff. Gets lame quick.

Well... that's my opinion... lemme hear yours...

In no particular Order:

Neon Genesis Evangelion
Cowboy Bebop
Vash the Stampede(Although I couldn't get over how thin his arm was.)
<.< >.> Yu Yu Hakusho (It just seems like a smarter version of Dragon Ball Z/!/Q/R/T/whatever, although it's not really.)
Finally, I'd have to say I rather like what I've seen of Chobits(or at least I think that's what it's called.)

That is all.

Yea eva was cool. The ending gave me a headache tho, made no sense.

btw the Matrix is definitely insipred or ripped off of Lain, which is one of the most bizzare intellectual anime series.

Yu yu is alright.

You gotta love Vash the Stampede, in the beginning the show is totally non-serious and the end is like very serious. There is an awesome quote at the end of every episode where they give a teaser of the next episode. Really good quotes. So Monty Python ppl who love to use quotes in daily life and want to have a good philosophical quote, Vash the Stampede is a good place to look.

PS: I think Cowboy Beebop is a good series to start with for Anime n00bs.

I'd have to disagree. While Cowboy Bebop is a great series in it's own right, it's not a good jumping-off point. When I introduce people to anime, it's a crash course. Everyone already has the stereotype of ultraviolent, gun-toting, scantily clad women running around, and I like to show series that break the "anime is just a whole bunch of explosions" cliche. If I want to introduce someone, I'll show them NGE. It's hard to understand, but that's the beauty. It says "I'm more than just a pretty face. I can have plot, and character development too!"

First thing that comes to mind: Slayers. OHHHH i love slayers. Slayers... just great. Three seasons, 4 OAV's and 4 movies. Just so much content. i love slayers so much. ummm.. yeah. I"m gonna have to say Kenshin is definetly in there without a doubt. OAV awesome, then watch the show, and then finish off with the two new OAV's. Probably the best ending i've ever seen for an anime. Trigun and CB are in there too. Great great anime. Oh oh, and Vampire Hunter D: Bloodlust is great. And GITS.. and Berserk..and Kodomo no Omocha. And about the other 40 series i've seen (except eva.. fricking hate eva).

1) Ghost In The Shell: Stand Alone Complex 1st Gig
1) GiTS:STAC 2nd Gig
3) Totoro
3) Anything by Miyazaki
5) Nadesico
5) Nadesico the movie
7) Trigun
8) Bebop
9) Gun Smith Cats

GiTS:STAC Is being released in the US atm, it is unbelievable

go get it now.

It gives you:
Plot (realy cool and YOU CAN ACTUALY FOLOW IT!)
Action (the best I have seen)
Sound Track just Rocks
Scanitly clad Chicks
Robots
Big Guns
Everything you could want in an anime, and it is TASTEFULY DONE! (no, I don't know why the major dresses the way she does, she just does)

Totoro is my tool for intorducing people to Anime, great plot, fun, makes you feel good and happy, etc etc.

Anything else by Miyazaki is also a great tool for that purpose, totoro is just my fave

Nadesico was my intoduciton to Anime, it is in the same genre as Eva (special ship, special mechas, special piolets for the special mecha etc) Exept that all the 'special people' are much more amusing and realistic , it pokes fun at Eva alot.

The movie is also fun

Trigun, second thing I watched all the way though, again it is a comedy, with a realy good plot (that yuo can follow)

Bebop is just fun

Gun smith cats is fan service. Its T&A&G&E (****, and ***, and guns, and explosions).

Anime that I don't like?

Eva, Just don't like it, I have seen way to many 'ooo look, I get to mess ith your head and make a plot that realy has no point or conclusions' (see Utena for tyhe same effect)

DBZ: Its jsut stupid, some of the manga DBs are ok.

Pokemon: I worked at a summer camp when it was at its peek, I get to complain, the rest of you DO NOT!

Never seen One Piece or Macross 7, will try to find & watch since you say they are kewl.

FLCL, seen that. Very good example of if you don't watch every episode from the beginning in a constant series you'll be lost. I missed 3 episodes once and was quite confused.
• ThansalThansal The New Scum Join Date: 2002-08-22 Member: 1215Members, Constellation
FLCL has 6 eps

you won't be any more lost then any one else as it makes no sense.

FLCL is only good if you like:
Stupid mindlessness (I don't)
OR
You know about Japanese pop cultre as most of it is bassed off of that.

I have extremely narrow tastes when it comes to anime. Most of what I see tends to rub me the wrong way. However, what I do like, I like a lot.

As for the FLCL thing...considering the "series" is only 6 episodes long, no wonder you got lost when you missed 3 of them.

Series
1a. Naruto
1b. Berserk
3. Full Metal Alchemist
4. Cowboy Bebop
5. Samurai Champloo

Going completely on a series' merit based on anime alone and ignoring manga, then Naruto is #1 and Berserk #2. Otherwise, it's a tie.

Movies
1. Vampire Hunter D
2. Vampire Hunter D: Bloodlust
3. Spirited Away
4. Princess Mononoke
5. Ghost in the Shell

I've watched a lot of series, and I really can't properly rate them right now. (Too many.)

GiTS:STAC = Ghost In The Shell: Stand Alone Complex

it is the series based on ghost in the shell (GiTS), 1st Gig is the first season, 2nd gig is the second.

It focuses on Public Peace Section 9 (the one that dosn't exist). It is comprised of various ex military, cops, and others (The Major from GiTS). They are basicaly the most badassed swat/investigation team there is. They handel domestic terrorism and crime, but specificly those involving sentient machines (and things close to that).

Most of the people in PP9 are Cyborgs (atleast a cyrber brain, in each, and atleast 2 are compleatly cybernetic). They also cover things where a Ghost (soul) has manifested in a machine (aka truly sentient devices), AIs, hackers, and what ever else Aramaki (their chief) sends them against

It also includes lots of interesting plot points (the sub that I saw explained the parts that could get confuzing (aka things that have to do with Japanese polotics)).

It also brings up LOTs of interesting quandries when it comes to the ability to download people into cyber brains.

Oh, and the line from my sig is a quote out of the opening song of 2nd gig.
