yeah getting rid of muzzle flashes isnt allowed on alot of servers anyway because they force file consitancy. I love the double standards the majority of people adhere to on these forums. How many of you would not object to changing the minimaps for the custom ones with names or changing the sprites used by the phase gate for higher FPS? And how many of those same people would object to changing the muzzleflash or devour sprites for purely aesthetic reasons? Way to be hypocrites. The muzzleflash sprites I linked are actually bigger than the default ones but more transparent. How many of the posters on this thread thought about that? I expect these are the same people who whine about _special not being blocked when mp_blockscripts is off but want to use every other script they can find or write.

The possible advantage of playing with or without a muzzleflash or using a custom muzzleflash is so marginal that its not worth your time to discuss it. Nor is it worth disallowing all the cool custom sprites out there. I agree that its important to to have file consistence in CAL, but there's no point in getting worked up over keeping the playing field even in pubs.
well, nuts, on the good side of things, marine Xhairs arent checked with consistancy, seeing, i royaly messed them up before i found about the crosshairs 0 command (no the Xhairs are pretty, i like them dont be offended! i dont like aiming!)
The default muzzle flash is far too big, hence why I (and many others) have replaced it. I have not seen such a large and opaque flash in any other multiplayer game.

What's file consitancy?
It's when a server won't let you use custom models, sounds, certain sprites and the like. It can be good as some people make versions that give them an unfair advantage. It has the drawback of preventing prefectly legit custom models, but if you're concerned that someone is cheating in such a manner it's a useful tool.

I don't think so. I know muzzleflash is checked by consistency, so I don't think you could double it's size.
p.s. woot, 500th post! i am overjoyed!
It is blocked by mp_consistency due the fact that it is possible to exploit it (by removing it), which thus makes it easier to aim.
However, most servers don't have mp_consistency on 1, so theres no worries. I think consistency is mainly for clan games/scrims/matches/pugs/whatnot.
I'm not going to comment on anything else for fear that I will cause a flamewar!
